The AFL have gone too far this time!

Recommended Posts

Who do the AFL think they are giving Melbourne a Saturday game?

For the past twelve or so weeks we Demons fans have been able to get ourselves into a nice little routine and rhythm whereby every Sunday we could sit down, relax and then be extremely tense and anxious as we watched our side get thumped.

After everything the we, the supporters and the MFC have been through this year, the AFL have the nerve to fixture Melbourne on a Saturday! Who do they think they are? The AFL claim to want to preserve the traditions of the game and yet they break a tradition that has been with Melbourne for well over half a season now!

Now wonder Melbourne can't draw big crowds, as most Demon supporters will be off to see St. Kilda v Port Adelaide on Sunday at the Phone Dome because for no other reason than habit.

Shame AFL. Shame.

Im prolly one of the most hardened supporters but gee against the Olympic Ceremony. Cant believe I'm thinking about not going. What time the ceremony start????

Pfft, the Olympic ceremony takes like 4 hours and is not even close to stopping me from going to the game.

If you have to watch the Chinese show us that they are the new bosses of the planet and they can stifle dissent, cut access to free press, detain and torture anyone they like, call the Dalai Lama a murderer, burn fossil fuels at a rate unknown to this planet, prop up dictators so they can buy oil and generally behave like Americans on steriods then just record it and watch it later. For mine, they can shove the "friendly" games, I'm going to the Footy!

I know it's scary even thinking about a Saturday game...

I have complained to the club about all of these sunday games especially given I live in far away country Vic and need to work on mondays.

But, that early game against Brisbane was terrific. I was home by 8pm.

What about an 11am sunday start? TV would hate it, but channel 7 would delay it, and you families who need to take your kids to junior sport would be stuffed.

I could come to more MFC games at 11am sundays! Just dreamin'.

Love the 1pm games. When you have young kids you can still get home in the daylight (and sneak a few cold ones in bar after the game - don't tell your wife it's a 1pm game)

Bummers game still not free to air in Tassie.

We get to watch Judd live instead.

I battle to maintain an interest in our game sometimes - but the kid I saw in grade 4/3 match today makes me realise what a great game we have.

Best U10 player I have ever seen

Olympic opening ceremony starts, and will be broadcast, immediately after the Geelong-Melbourne game. That's why the game is live against the gate too. I think there would be just enough time for anyone really desperate to get home and watch the ceremony.

I hate Olympic ceremonies and I'm making a point of travelling down to Melbourne for the game as a direct act of avoidance. As well as to celebrate the 150 years.

Haven't the AFL done a mighty job of promoting that little event out of all proportion.

But seriously, choosing to watch the opening ceremony over a game of football makes about as much sense to me as choosing to watch the pre-match entertainment and then skipping the grand final.

The gate itself could go either way, but we should get plenty of TV exposure. This is an important one to make a good showing for on the field.

Or you could just watch the sneak preview on Korean TV, and still make it to the game ;) !!!

Completely throws my routine out to the window.

Work has to change, meetings have to be re-organised. I didn't even realise it was a Saturday game until Tuesday afternoon when I had to book a meeting with a client.

P.S.- Olympic ceremonies are a disgrace to sport. Who wants to watch 786 nations walking into a stadium with a flag, wearing some idiotic uniform?

The MFC > Namibia's squash team!

How about giving us one Friday night game all year, that happens to be live against the gate and falls on the same night of the Olympic opening ceremony. A big thank you to the AFL for that boom game and the thousands of $$$ we will reap from the gate .

I'm surprised that more hasn't been made of this. We have one (? can't remember another) home night game this year on free to air (good expoaure and crowd) and it is live to the gate on Olympics opening night! Seriously thi sis unbeliveiable. Can't they give us a break for once....

We will get a bigger TV audience playing the premiers as a lead up into the opening night than any other Friday night game. The only problem is that it might effect the gate

Can't believe people would choose ceremony over going to footy, harden up people.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
