Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

During trade week we can give them a bad pick or we take him in the PSD and you lose him for nothing scenerio... if we finish above freo that goes out the window

How so? If Warnock is LEAVING Fremantle why the hell would they want to pick him up again whe he doesn't want to be there? It'd be a waste for them and for Warnock, and he'd probable screw them the first chance he gets again. As long as no one else from Victoria finishes below us well still have that bargaining power.

In terms of winning culture, i don't think the act of winning 2-3 more games this year will make a difference in the long run, but it's how we lose those games that will reflect on our culture and personal standards. In an ideal world we'd play great games for the rest of the year, but only win enough to gain the priority pick. The fact is that of the 7 games we've got left we only play ONE game against a current top 8 side, and of the first 15 games we've played ELEVEN of those were against top 8 sides.

The coaching staff AND THE PLAYERS have a choice here. They can go down the path that Calrton the tank engine took last year and deliberately lose the games they could've/should've won, or they can decide that the want to build confidence for next year by winning matches.

2 words: Honourable loss.

Another 2: Best interests.

Now put them together. And make sure we do it with youngsters.

I'm not saying to the players don't try... I'm telling the coach to prevent us winning....

Put Dunn on Palmer instead of Bell

Put Garland on Farmer etc etc

The players can still give it there all and learn about other players... we just might not win

Boggles the mind!!! Some of the same people who complain about Sylvia not putting in a consistent effort, want the team to do what they are complaining about Col not doing! I don't care if we win or lose, I want to see every player giving their all with a total commitment to the new game plan. Taking risks and backing themselves into the contest. Running in numbers with courage and conviction, breaking the lines and backing our depleted forward line to win the one on one contests, rather than kick it around the 50m arc to an uncontested player. If we do that and aren't good enough, so be it.

This being the most poignant part of your post. I think we have a good (not great) young list at the moment but we are several quality players and a few seasons off a premiership tilt. The most practical way to get quality players? Get the earliest possible draft picks and nurture them well.

Obviously our players don't know they've only managed it twice this year! Winning culture for mine

Of course! It all makes sense now. We're not winning because our players don't know how - it's not ingrained into their psyche! Geez I've been daft. Why didn't I see it like that. Here I was thinking that we're just not good enough at the moment.

We've got two wins left before we shoot ourselves in the foot. There are teams I'd rather beat than Fremantle, both from a sentimental and practical perspective.

You might want to revisit your matchups to achieve your objective Wolfie. Garland played on Farmer when we last played Freo & beat him soundly. That was when I realised just how quick young Col is. He gave Farmer a start & caught him on the lead on a couple of occasions.

If you're fair dinkum, put Jamar on Palmer !!!

If you're fair dinkum, put Jamar on Palmer !!!

If we man Palmer up at all, that will be our first mistake. Palmer is a godsend for the opposition. Nobody torches the ball like him. His foot is permanently ablaze.

Wait a minute... what am I saying. Yes by all means waste a tagger on him.

No! Not this one.

We can only afford to win 2 more games for the season or else we lose a priority pick after Round 1 in the draft. And I would prefer to see us win them at the MCG. I have no doubt we will beat the Eagles. But I would really like to beat the Bombers after last years loss to them. That would give us 4 wins! Eagles will finish with the spoon which is a historic statistic. We definitly dont want that.

This is such a bad Topic. I don't pay a [censored] load of money at the start of the year to "want" Losses. I know what you guys mean and yes for the long term it may be the correct thing to do. But it still makes me feel sick in the guts to want my team to lose....... I need a Whiskey Grrrrr

We have two wins left.

I want to beat the Bombers and the Tigers.

If we beat these teams, we should finish 14th or 15th. Leaving Pick 2 or 3 and the Priority Pick at 18 or 19 respectively depending on if Freo or WCE finish with less than 5 wins. Which they should with their form.

Play to win, coach to win, manage to lose.

Yep.

I'm sometimes surprised at the anger directed towards Carlton for their 'tanking' last season and perhaps before. Hannabal's quote pretty much sums it up for me. The Carlton players weren't going out there to lose last year, they are just that inept. Its been shown again this season that despite the addition of Judd and about one injury for the entire season, that they are a subpar team. Carlton successfully 'list managed' in order to get their desired result. Fevola was rested for the Round 14 game against Melbourne, etc.

I don't have a problem with it. It's smart list management. If your team's hopes of reaching the finals are shot, why have players running out there who would benefit from going under the knife or resting? We're seeing it at Melbourne this year too.

Tanking to me implies that the players are laying down. I don't see that here. As long as we have a draft system that rewards finishing lower, we will see teams out of contention wanting to plan for the future, not just in our game but in sports across the globe.

Amazing. At this point in the count more than 50% of Demonlanders prefer a loss .... and I wonder how many of them bagged Carlton for tanking in '07, and are saying similar things about the Weagles this year. Shameful!

The only thing that makes me sad is how thick and short-sighted some people are.

The only thing that makes me sad is Demons supporters who prefer to lose!

Play to win, coach to win, manage to lose.

Yeh, I think that's basically right Hannabal, except I would say;

Play to win, coach to win, manage the list for best long term outcome.

I think this is not tanking.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
