Extraordinary news...

He has bruising on the brain, and is in a medically induced coma after being hit by a tram.

As a club and supporter group we know how tragedy feels all too well, and while I'm thankful he's alive I'm shocked and shaken that he will certainly not play again this year and may not play ever again.

All the best to Graham and his family, and fingers crossed that is released from hospital sooner rather than later.

just terrible. i chocked up a bit hearing the news, you dont want to wish this sorta thing on anyone

sorta like what happened to juilian huxley in the union finding out he had a brain tumour

best of luck in recovery

I was horrified when I saw this this afternoon.....

I am so sorry to him, his family and friends (and the footy community and fans generally).

It is awful and shatteringly stark when real life accidents or tragedies occur to the people we see and cheer for on the field each week.

It feels quite personal, as you can't help but feel like you know them.

I wish and hope for the best possible outcome for Graham, which is obviously a full recovery.

Shocking news.

I wish him all the best in his recovery.

I heard what happened and was nearly sick. Having spent time in a severe head injury ward myself after suffering one as a kid, I have seen first hand what kind of horrible an impact this kind of thing can have on a person. I luckily walked away with just a concussion, but a few of those I shared a room with weren't so lucky.

I wish him all the best and hope he can recover and lead a full life afterwards. You really wouldn't wish this sort of thing on anyone. The thought of someone suffering this kind of injury sends chills up my spine.

Apperantly has is doing well now, and has even managed to get up from his bed.

I wish him a speedy and full recovery!

Wow for his and his families sake i hope this is true fantastic, hope he makes a full recovery what a story that would be, didnt think the media had the families best interest trying to get a quote from his mum on arrival looked like sharks trying to get ratings

Apparently he's gotten up, had a shower, gone to the bathroom...

The doctors are saying that given his fitness and health are at such a high level, he is improving at a rate that has been overwhelmingly positive...

Great news for Graham. In my experience, I had an ex that was hit by a car, was knocked out for minutes... went to hospital and stayed for a week... and she is now back to normal. At the time we were told that she might be a bit off for a couple of months due to bleeding on the brain and the bruising, and that turned out to be true.

Given the similarities between these cases I'm hopeful for Graham.

Yeah, it's unfortunate, but the reality of it is that they are in the business of reporting the news, and the Journalts code of ethics is very rarely adhered to these days, it's their job, but sometimes you wish they would do it with a bit more grace and compassion.

And i wish Polak all the best with his recovery, it will be along hard road ahead and i like the rest of the footy community wish him well.

Good to hear he's recovering.

Shocked when I first heard about it. It's about 200 metres from my place, and that's my tram stop. Media wolves have been disgusting, but all the best wishes to Graham, hope he gets back to 100 per cent.

i dont mean to ruin the mood but polak is not out of jail yet. despite being able to squeeze the nurses hand and being able to perform very basic motor movements there is still a high chance of him having permanent brain injuries and never playing again. His playing future is really the smallest of concerns here.

I think all the posters here have respectfully wished Polak a full recovery (of health) and have not focussed on that. Thats the mood that was certainly created from my reading of things.

Despite the welcome news of his coming out of a coma, he definitely has a lot of recovery to do just to get his general life back together.

I wish him well after the terrible accident

I was sad to hear the news and wish him a speedy recovery. Not wanting to make light of this at all - but how does one get hit by a tram?? They are pretty big and noisy??

All the best to Polak. God's speed in recovery champ. Wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Its very sad news. Hope the Richmond football Club get right behind him, I'm sure they will.

Kryton, according to Jordan McMahon and Clive Hughes who waited, they allegedly assumed Polak thought he was going to make it across the track before the Tram came through. He is quite lucky he didn't go under the Tram. The knocks he received in the Carlton clash may have contributed to his awareness.

Thanks - as I said I wasn't trying to be flippant. If the knocks in the game contributed to the incident then I wonder what can of worms that will open!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
