Adem..you want real heroics.. just do those team things better..we'll award you suitable kudos then

How much better a player is Steve Johnson in the past 2 years since he became a team player who abides by team rules on the ground who is accountable when he has and does not has have the ball? He is gone from a talented and lazy self serving show pony in 2006 to easily one of Geelongs top 5 in a premiership team.

If only.......

There were several moments in the last quarter where I thought Cale was Harry Potter and wearing a cloak of invisibility...kept running into precisely the right spaces and yet nobody was passing to him...

It's not just today, either. He tends to look rather frustrated when not used, too - almost Richardson-esque :P

I remember thinking exactly the same thing, he really worked hard a couple of times and should have been rewarded for his efforts. It's very encouraging seeing a kid of his age and experience work that hard up and down the ground.

Our forward line was what let us down all game.

Our delivery into the forward 50 clearly wasn't working and Yze (as the most experianced goal kicker we had) had a couple of shots that he felt confidant taking.

He backed himself.

He was bloody Selfish and i hope Bailey makes a big example of it during the Week. Yze is on Top Coin and could have really earnt it yesterday. He loved being out there again, but he blew it sadly

is it ooze being selfish .. or trying to be the leader and stepping up to have a shot and give us a boost?

you got to admit he would have been feeling the pressure to cement his spot in the team , and what if the coach instructed him to have a shot him being one of our more reliable shots for goal over the ages.

Not when there are two blokes standing on there own metres out-No way. Those shots he had were extreme low percentage. If he had passed and the reciever had missed nobody would be arking up about adem. Bet My house Bailey would not have told him to kick those shots.

He plays for himself. There is no excuse for not using a lone teammate 20 metres out directly in front. No truly successful side would carry nor forgive such acts

I doubt the Coach would have said "Ignore the better option for the team and bathe yourself in glory". Given what Bailey has said in the past I doubt it even further.

It was terribly selfish. Its a pity that MFC have become accustomed and accepting of it with Yze and Robbo overriding team rules. It does not happen at the better sides.

Every player is under pressure to cement his spot in the team. Why should Yze, a club leader be allowed to play for himself at the expense of the team?

The footage of Cale running into space should be shown as what to do, directly after all the what not to do footage.

I would not bother telling him he has done the wrong thing. He knows .................

Sure does!! He admitted it in an interview at the post match function.

Rhino, I don't have any stats for score assists over the last decade or so, but I'd be willing to bet Yze has the most of any Melbourne player. I can think of 1 kick on Monday which could be considered selfish and at least 6 or 7 which set up opportunities. Your constant bagging of Yze is at least on par with YM's of Bruce.

Go and do the home work as you cant obviously count what happens in one game. His last quarter was appalling particularly from a player who is a leader of the Club. No other club would tolerate such a "me first" player for so long. Yze selfish behaviour is only topped by ignorant apologists who go into states of myopic denial everytime he does it.

Yze and Bruce in the a similar place right now, as they are getting older their kicking skills are going and they have to know their limitations going forward (especially bruce as i believe he is contracted till 2010).

That said, Yze was great on Monday and was wrecked by 3qtr time.

Those no-look shots in the last were awful but that's what a lack of confidence does - it rushes everything you do.

Even the basics of playing for the team and taking the best options. He played well up to 3 Qtr time but as others said he undid it all at the crucial time and often.

He faulted 3 times at not kicking to a better option. He was not rushed. It was deliberate. Do you think he might have thought about his actions after the first two? Some of the excuses put up for this are as poor as the actions themselves.

Bruce is well ahead of Yze.

paul johnson wasnt. and people bagged him for it. go figure.

the collingwood players werent. they continually spotted up players closer to goal and on better angles, even after taking marks inside 50. st kilda did the same thing last week.

guess which two teams we lost to?

Brad Miller for one. That's why he deserves to be in the leadership group and Yze doesn't.

Yze did not know for sure that he was capable of kicking it. If there was only 2 seconds left in the game, than of course you take the kick, but he had better options and more likely goal avenues. He didn't even bother looking.

If I was Morton I'd give him a spray.

What excuses?

It was his third game for the year and the only one he played well in. He still looked unsure of himself and he rushed his disposals. When you are down on confidence you don't trust yourself to hold onto the ball so you dispose as quickly as you can.

The kick at goal from 45 was a prime example; he could have run in a further 10 metres but didn't know he had as much time as he did.

It's an explanation of why a bloke that has played 1 or 2 good games since 2006 can make some glaring errors.

Sorry mate ..this is laughable...he's played more games for the red and blue than anyone else currently still there. . he's no newby !!

Once an Ooze..always an ooze.

There was only 2 seconds left in the game. The last quarter ran more than 2 minutes too long, maybe the players were notified.

Paul Johnson din't make the correct decision despite the outcome. A 40m shot 45 degree angle PJ would kick maybe 40-50% of the time. Kicking backwards to 60m out and then hoping a free target is found would maybe a 25% chance of a goal, going by an average inside 50 to goal ratio.

If there's a 25% chance of a goal from all inside 50's, the chance of a goal when a player has marked the ball 60m out would be far higher, considering that many inside 50's would be from players who don't have the luxury to take a mark and wait for a target to present.

Just something to consider.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
