• Cranbourne Footy Club playing every week that the Scorpions are away
• TAC matches
• NAB Challenge matches
• U18 National Championship matches (Casey Fields hosted the finals last year)
• Casey-Cardinia League finals

none of these events justify a new 20,000 seat stadium being built, as the current facilities would be sufficient...

set aside the debate over what level of attendances we will get at Casey... i think our attendances would be poor, others seem to disagree... anyhow...

we need to ask how many games would need to be played out there to justify the construction of such a stadium? and this isn't the MFC justifying spending money, but the state government, the AFL and the Casey Council justifying spending the money...

I would imagine the new venue would have to host at least one game every second week of the AFL season, with a preference for one game per week... so unless we play all our home games out at Casey, we're going to have to get other clubs on board...

the first problem with this is if we're going to get new members from playing out at casey, we're only going to have to share these potential new members with any other club who also plays home games out that way... even if we have a training base out there this will be insignificant to having games played out there... we may be able to get an advantage by having a greater presence in the area, but we're still going to have stiff competiton... being competitive on the field would be

secondly what other clubs would play games at a boutique stadium? the only ones i could possibly think of are north melbourne and the bulldogs... the bulldogs are based in the western suburbs, so it would be a slap in the face to their supporters to play home games out there... north melbourne seem to be the only potential co-tenant side in my view... unless we were willing to play 5-6 games each, and commit to playing this amount of games for an extended period of time, a commitment I don't believe would be in the best interests of the footy club, i don't think a stadium like the one we're talking about will happen unfortunately...

Im not conversant with any plans to seat 20000 at Casey in the near future. I believe ideas abound for about 10000 seating with 'other ' public areas available. This is at the heart of the problem. Its unlikely that we will garner anything larger than 10-15000 crowds at the Melb v non-descript teams.

True, but let's not forget that Geelong is an entirely different city, and the club needs to satisfy members from both Geelong and Melbourne. I think Skilled Stadium is bigger than any suburban ground in Melbourne anyway (stand to be corrected on that one).

Its ( K-P ) now been developed as a greater capacity than "suburban" but it wasnt always that way. Until fairly recently ( by modern standards0 it was only a 50-50 type ground.. i.e half seated.. half terraces in the old vernacular. Granted today it resembles littel of the past. We could quite happily exist with ground as it ( KP) was.

Yep.. Geelong is a 'different " place in many regards But again its really only recent times they re-took the bull by the horns and re-identified as a stand alone location. Before it was just that far away bit of teh VFL.. Now its a "regional" team !! All very clever really and I take my hat off to them. Signs of a forward and progressive organisation. If we keep whatever supporter base that currently exists for Melb in its more inner suburban and country locales and ADDS to this a particular 'locality" folowing much in teh way that indeed Geelong has then this migh tpave teh way forward to indeed have that magical 30000 plus membership we desperately need.

I must confess I rather like the idea of a "another" team having to run the gauntlet of a terribly one-sided parochial crowd at Casey, even if for only a small handful of games a year. Lets refrain from the hand of friendship and make it as cold and unhospitable a place for any visiting team.

i didn't mean any boutique ground... i meant the stadium we're discussing... to build a stadium of what's being suggested, I would imagine it would require the support of more than 1 AFL club... geelong have their own stadium, so they're not going to play there...

and I don't think we'll get enough support from other AFL clubs to justify the construction of this stadium unless we played 6 games there a year, when it would only be in the interests of the MFC to play 3...

Well it depends whether you're only talking about revenue from AFL sources. There are U18 championship games being played out there at the moment. There's the U18s, VFL, Carnivals that could all contribute as well as the AFL. If they're serious about reintroducing the reserves then we'll need to find a ground to play in as well. As others have pointed out the fact that Geelong play 7 matches at Skilled Stadium instead of having 22 played there in a season doesn't mean it isn't viable.

I don't know whether the whole thing is a pipe dream or not, but it's a fantastic initiative by Gardner to put this in the face of the AFL. Something has to be done about the inequalities in the system.

Absolutely.. what is.. is. And there was a substantial gorund at K P to start with..and they've built on it. Thats one situation from my view. Another is developing an all together different assett at Casey. Whilst no real physical similarity of instances there is a opportunistic one.

They redeveloped KP to get 30 thou into int..stil a tad short for that place realy..bu [censored] works. We dont need to fit 30 thou in at Casey..30 thou will work at teh G. As Graz shows us there are half a dozen instances where interstaters will be the fodder for us.

An altogether reality is , in very much the same vogue as Geelongs reasoning to develop, is that Melbourne will need to substantiate a desire and a call for such a venue. No one is going to ring up teh Construction boys, or Hollands..etc and start teh Grollo trcuks backing into Casey anytime soon. Its an ideal that might eventuate in a few years time. The spending of money is all about a buiness case. Theres one for training defintiely..other things..well. the momentum is gathering.

What is most defintiely for mine the pleasing aspect of al lthis is as Cuddles puts it..we at least have some options.. We havent had hardly any for a long time.

New member to demonland so i do not know what response i will receive form all of you but hey i am thick skinned and mighty proud demon member.

Cost will be a major factor in what we do but thats why we have the best posible people involved and am sure a deal could be worked out with all concerned, City of Casey bought this ground for next to nothing 3 years ago and i wouldnt be surprised what this council would do along with the State Government and the AFL to develop an area that has great growth.

I would rather see this mighty club try Casey fields any day, so to all worrying about how far it is getting to the games if we end up there i for one would rather trek to Cranbourne than have this great club either fold or relocate interstate and what would you do then, thats up to each individual to ponder.

As for public transport until the rail extension if ever comes into play there are alternatives like having a shuttle bus service to and from the ground it is not really that far.

I for one will wait in anticipation and see if any good can come to the oldest club going

For an underperforming team we are averaging 33186 at home games but we have 6 to go in Melb, Collingwood, Richmond, North Melbourne, Brisbane, Geelong and WCE we should be able to maintain this average if not lift it a little.

Last night on footy classified Caro had the nerve to say that Sundays draw the same crowds as the other days, history has showed us that not only is Sunday traditionally the days that draws less of a crowd but less TV exposure which IMO is an even bigger issue. And it's one of the reasons why we're having to look outside the square to gain revenue.

If nothing else, the fact that the club has shown it's willing to think latterally now gives us positive press. This venture could well be our saviour, it could well prove to be just a red herring to deflect our clubs issues but either way i like the thinking that's going on.

Some of the talk on here has been with regard to the cost of a 20 000 seat stadium. Why?

Why not have a 20-25 000 capacity venue with only 10-15 000 seat stadium with the balance being standing room? Geelong has done it for years, and it would seem to significantly reduce the costs of construction. If it is only going to be used for 2-4 AFL games a year that would make more sense.

in answer to casey scorp i got my pronoun wrong CC was at a meeting with the council . i believe it was a tea and bicky affair.

my information came from a casey councillor , face to face, one on one. so you can take that any way you like,also not all councillors are in favour of the motion to spend that money on an elite sport and will vote against the motion when it comes up.

on another aspect of training or even playing at casey fields(which i personally like) from the way alot of the posters wrote you would think CF was half way between the MCG and the sea of tranquility.people live out there!!! alot of them even.

maybe as a supporter group we can arrange a car pool ? better yet next year when we play at geelong i will offer alift to a supporter down and back. maybe we can get us a convoy- just imagine coming back a dozen cars or so scarves out the windows after we thump the [censored].
