Those Who Wanted Robertson/Miller Dropped

there were a lot of people who called for it... both players were very important for us in winnig the game today, a game we wouldn't have won if they was dropped like so many people called for...

so, who wanted them out... come forward...

Never called for them to be dropped, primarily because we had no other options. My issue was both of these guys playing upfield, away from the forward fifty. In previous games this season both of these guys looked like absolute peanuts when floating around in the midfield or the half-back line trying to get a kick becasue the ball wasn't coming forward.

The only thing Miller can do is play as a leading half-forward, which he did yesterday and did extremely well. It's also amazing what Robbo can do when he gets the ball quickly.

The moron who ever considered that Miller should play anywhere other than were he played yesterday should be lynched.

It's amazing what a team can do if they just RUN, RUN, RUN and NEVER STOP. You get the ball to Robbo quickly and accurately and more often than not he'll win the contest.

I didn't at the time but in the last few weeks have thought it was a mistake to hold on to Robbo. I think we could have been more aggeresive in our 'rebuilding' and trade an extra player on top of Trav to secure a first round pick.

One win doesn't change my opinion on that.

Miller had no value at the end of last year, so trading him would be of no benefit.

I wanted Robbo out, but only because I wanted to see what Newton could do on his own.

Robbo lifted.

Never wanted Miller out, he is still so important, even when he plays crap he creates a target and opens up the field.

Miller played his best ever game for the club/ I for one thought he did not have it in him. Hopefully he can carry on this form

Robbo played 2 good quarters when everything was running Melb's way.

Miller was good and gave his all for four quarters.

But lets keep it in context.... fine win though it was.

How many teams (other than us) are going to play "Lay Down Sally" as well and as comprehensively as Freo?

I am keen to see them back it up against tougher opposition in a more demanding game than yesterdays.

Miller was fantastic.

But i've been fooled by his one off performances before

He needs to show it in a few consecutive matches, before I'll get excited

As good as he was yesterday, i'm not overly optimistic

I wanted Robbo dropped. His efforts over the first 6 weeks were not good enough. He turned it around yesterday and was helped by better delivery. Hopefully he has set his standard for the rest of the year.

Special mention should go to Jamar and Warnock. Much maligned on this forum but both were great yesterday. I thought Warnock was fantastic in the third quarter and might be a player yet.

The biggest problem with Robbo is that when we haven't got the ball he is rotten. I didn't see anything different yesterday, but I won't criticise as he was instrumental in the win, and quite frankly, I don't want to do anything at all to take the gloss off it.

I certainly had a go at Robbo, but unlike some, maintained he was capable of what he showed yesterday. Merely questioned his application. Not saying that to illustrate greater knowledge or anything, because I didn't think Miller was capable of what he showed yesterday.

I never doubted he could present but he was fantastic; he led sideways, backwards, didn't constantly handball, and had confidence in his kicking.

I guess confidence is more than half the battle.

Agree. It was never that Robbo wasn't capable, it is just that the effort was not there.

everyone knows i wanted miller dropped. I still do, if we are building for a flag Miller can't be in the team. He has played 2 good games in his whole career. But he still played a great game and finally applied some scoreboard pressure which is what he has never done before. I'd rather Miller have 2 kicks and 2 goals in a game than 10 possessions, 10 clangers like he usually does playing further up the ground.

Give credit where it is due Freak.

If he continues like that he has a future, pure and simple.

To be honest I thought he played a HFF role and Bate played the CHF role straightening us up in the second half. Miller isn't good enought to be a CHF in a push for a flag but he is as a HFF, or what I saw him do yesterday.

I'd stick to deciphering the Priority Pick rules. You will at least get those right in time.

I even thought you might extract your foot from your mouth on this and not shove it further down your throat.

He may not be crucial factor in the team that hopefully does win a flag but FFS, Steven Armstrong and Shannon Motlop hold premiership medals and they are ordinary. Miller should be encouraged to stick at it and contribute.

Your lightweight condemnations of Miller over time have been pathetic.

*Raises hand*

I was justified in wanting them dropped. They didn't perform. They were lucky to still be in the team, and they performed when we needed them too. Kudos to them. But I don't take back wanting them to be dropped. They got lucky. If a player doesn't perform, he gets dropped. Simple. I have no doubt Robbo, Moloney and Macca got a good blasting at half-time.

Obi-Wan said there is no such thing as luck. I certainly believe him when it comes to getting form back. Took alot of hard work from Robbo and Miller and I salute them, as I do my Star Wars segue.

robbo kicked 4 goals in the second half (perhaps in the last quarter?). i cant remember the last time i saw him mark out in front instead of on the chest. he has a lot to do the next month to prove he still deserves his spot.

and RE miller, 1 swallow doesnt make a summer. he marked, and kicked and ran hard today. i rate his effort and always have. but he needs to back it up. ive still never seen him play two games like that in a row.

Agreed.

Was a big part of me also cheeriong for Warnock to really become a player, get himself a 1-2 year deal so we can get his brother for the next 10 years.

I've been negative towards him but I still realised at the time that he is our only real current option for CHF and didn't call for him to be dropped.

The three things about his game that I disliked where the fact that he continually ran out to the wing (and beyond) to chase kicks, his lack of contested marking and his lack of goal kicking. All three things he's been guilty of over the last 3 years but on the weekend he turned it around, much to my surprise, and I have to admit that I didn't think he was capable of it.

Now his challenge is to continue with this form. He has set the mark for himself to aspire to, and not just for the odd game, but every single game he needs to work that hard and push himself. If he lapses and falls back into his old ways then it will be all for nothing.

Miller must have a pathological hatred of Fremantle. This 'other good game' he played for us was agasint Fremantle in the 2006 Semi-Final. And last year he kicked 3 goals against Fremantle in the absence of Neitz and Robertson.

I loved his game yesterday though. Picking up the footy, breaking the tackle and hitting Woonaeamirri on the chest was a highlight for me.

The thing is that the last 6 games that we lost that didnt put in the effort that they did in the freo game. Know that the whole has shown what they can do they have to back it up otherwise it doesnt mean anything.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
