Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cooney is rapidly becoming a disappointment. A monster in the under-age competition, he stood out. Now that he has to play with the big boys, he isn't the matchwinner any more. Certainly will not get his own ball, and appears not to work hard enough for the team.

Players in subsequent drafts have long passed him in terms of output.

Is he Footscrays version of TJ?

Conney is an absolute dud

I laughed my ass off when the soft bastard was drafted with the 1st pick, and then Walker was taken 2nd

leaving us with Sylvia, who will be twice as good as both

Cannot agree with the anti Cooney comments.........while I'm not his number 1 fan, the bloke is a gun player, and I have watched him play some ripping games for the Doggies.

And he does win his own ball.......when he is on, he is as hard at it as anyone.

He had a shocker last night........but he wasn't alone for the Dogs.

I would have him at the MFC in a heartbeat!

He had a fantastic patch of form mid year (Has kicked 20+ goals IIRC) but has dropped off a lot since the Dogs played Geelong.

His disposal can be crap at times, but he'll be a star for the Dogs eventually. Remember, it's his 4th year, and he's achieved more than anyone from the 2003 draft so far (Yes he has done more than Brock due to Brock's injuries), Gary Ablett Jnr never started playing consistently till this year and it's his 6th season in the AFL.

Sylvia will still be better though.

Yet Cooney was named in the best for the bulldogs last night. You guys are so biased. Cooney is a gun player and has been in the top brownlow favourites in previous seasons. I'd be extremely surprised if Sylvia ever got to half the level of Cooney.

Cooney is miles ahead of Walker, McLean and Sylvia.

He has shown he can play at the top level.

On the other hand, McLean mysterious cant throw a tagger. And injury aside, Sylvia has yet to produce.

It will be McLean's and Sylvia's fifth year next year, Bell will be in his sixth year. FCS, those three must deliver more and consistently. So far, all issues considered, the return on the investment in any of those three has not been high.

Bell has delivered consistently since he got over the OP.

Has there been a more consistent defender this season?

McLean is struggling with injuries. Who knows how long the adductor injury has bothered him. He is, and will be, much MUCH better than Cooney in the long run. I'd like to see Cooney playing in the thick of the action at every bounce, without the likes of West taking away the best tagger.

He's a good player, but he doesn't work very hard, does he? He is their version of Yze, the younger years.

You obviously havn't watch 2007 very closely.... injury aside Daniel Bell has been the one constant in our defensive half. He wouldn't have played a disappointing match from a personal perspective.

Think before you type, Champ.

In defence of Rhino, he’s talking about the current ROI of all three players.

Daniel Bell was our first pick in the 2002 draft and has taken 5 years to develop as a back pocket/flank. When you consider that Rivers was taken after him, it is a little sobering. Bell has impressed this year only.

At the risk of enflaming the worshippers, injuries or not, I don’t think Colin is going to make it.

The only one I’d disagree on is McLean. Aside from this year, I’d argue that McLean is equal, if not better than Cooney.

When viewed together, the ROI, to this stage, is fairly low.

Mclean is the best of the 2003 draft thus far. Better than Cooney. That's not to say Cooney isn't a good player, because he is, and if he could put it together consistently he'd be fantastic, but Mclean has achieved the most thus far. Cooney just had a error riddled game on the weekend. This time last year, he played a magnificent game, had 35 disposals and 5 goals against Adelaide in a BOG performance to help secure the Doggies a finals place. Mclean did him one better and won us a final :D hahaha Point is Cooney is a good footballer, and there's no need to rubbish him.

You have conveniently omitted the fact that Daniel Bell has been slaughtered by injury since his arrival at the club. No in fairness or not to Rhino he needs to do a little more research before making such ill informed statements.

I'll quote it again Sleeve...

Thanks and I call you if I need your research.

Yes the top 3 have all struggled to live up to expectations, injuries are a factor but the reality is all 3 have come into the league without natural positions. All 3 have effectively found themselves flankers whilst their teams hope they develop engines to enable them to play in the midfield. Compare that with Judd, Ball and Hodge, all midfielders at the under age and AFL level.

Let this be a lesson when we pick our first rounder this year, we need someone who will slot naturally into a position in the AFL, not someone who will have to learn a new position at the professional level and hence will struggle for a few years.

I didn't "conveniently" omit that fact. I deliberately left it out as its irrelevant to the argument.

For what its worth, I like Daniel Bell as a player. My comments are not meant to be an enditement indictment of him

Electrifying pace off the mark, can kick a long goal, good disposal, reads the play well, high clearance rate at stoppages, can take a mark and can be a matchwinner. Why would you want him?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
