They were decimated by the marquee signings - Randall/Gibson at Adel, SF-T, Swanson/Forth at GWS, King at Collingwood plus losing Bowers to an ACL not long after being chosen as one of their marquees. I'm pretty surprised King was a marquee at Collingwood - there are plenty of Vic players who could have made more of an impact such as Kearney and Paxman. Qld has a pretty reasonable state team (especially their youth girls in recent years) so it's not a huge surprise that they are doing well. They have also recruited well from interstate.

Couldn't have said it better myself! The quality of the competition will improve massively over the next 5-10 years as more girls come through the youth girls system who didn't have to stop playing footy as they reached their teens.

It looks like GWS then traded 20 with 21 and 48 for 14 (Cam McCarthy) and 29 (Rory Lobb). They passed on 72. Both teams have done well out of it - such a strong draft

Don't know if serious...? You know we have a completely new team right? I saw quite a bit of the women's VFL last year (a lot of one particular team which will probably be obvious) so can give a semi-educated opinion on our and other teams' recruiting. I was disappointed overall with our draft haul, predominantly with our lack of a proven key forward which I think will prove to be our downfall during the season. Daisy is obviously a great get. Hickey was a bit of a reach as a marquee player but getting Paxman as a priority makes up for that. Overall our drafting was VERY young/inexperienced. A good proportion of our team seems to be just out of youth girls or new to footy in the past couple of years so much like GWS or GCS' first few seasons I expect that we will struggle early despite good top end senior players but should be a force in a couple of years. We were unlucky to be the last Victorian team to pick as Lambert, Stevens and Jakobbsen are all guns. O'Dea was a solid pick but Berry was too early IMO. She has great skills and potential but hasn't really proven herself yet (played forward pocket in the VFL last year). Our players that I can see that are primarily key forwards are Jess Anderson and Jasmine Grierson who both played their first year of senior football last year. Cranston has played up forward a lot but is a bit short. Lauren Pearce and Maddie Boyd are ruck/forwards. We do have options but they are not close to the Vescio/Hope/Brennan level. Our midfield and defence look ok. I expect that the bulldogs will clearly be the top Vic team. Their midfield with Blackburn, Kearney (clearly the next best mids (after Daisy) along with Bri Davey), Lambert, Hannah Scott and Brooke Lochland should dominate. Plus O'Connor and Spark who are top rucks. And Brennan up forward. Carlton have done well getting a top forward and mid as their marquee players, like the bulldogs. They lack top line midfielders behind Davey but Hosking, Exon and Pound are quality. They have a great forward line with Vescio, Jakobsson, Ayre and Arnell. Collingwood looks good all over the ground except for a weak midfield. Their backline should be particularly strong with Stevens, Chiocci and Penny Cula-Reid and obviously they have Hope up forward, along with Cameron. You only need to look at the league B&F and team of the year to see that we will struggle this year. She was not eligible for to play VFL last year but played only 4 games in the Premier division (next one down from VFL) and was BOG in all of them and also took out the team's B&F playing only those 4 games! She's tall, fast, beautiful kick and strong mark and seems always have so much time, a bit like Pendlebury. And is a big Dees fan! So there's my preview...

I have also heard that he is not well liked by a most of his teammates (directly from a former Suns player). This will probably be a blessing in disguise in that he will lose the captaincy and they will unite behind lynch.

Geelong didn't take Danger as a FA as he was a restricted free agent and Adelaide would have matched the deal and forced them to trade anyway (to get a better deal than one 1st round draft pick as compensation)

This is really just semantics. Lactate, lactic acid, it's all just referring to byproducts of anaerobic metabolism. Lactate is not 'good for us', it's a marker of anaerobic metabolism - and byproducts of anaerobic metabolism cause fatigue and DOMS. And just on a side note, as someone who works in health care, we do all have lactate in our bodies, but you do not want a high lactate. Not a good sign!

They've misinterpreted what Dave Misson has said about Kent. He has already had 3 weeks since his injury. The INITIAL assessment was 8-10 weeks and they are sticking with that even though he is progressing really well so we could hope to have him back in 5 weeks at best (not 8-10 weeks as the AFL site are quoting). I suspect he will be back after the bye.

Back on topic... Hale often seems to have a day out against us. But he has only had one ok game back in the reserves (took one mark - was contested, one goal) after being out for 3 weeks with an adductor problem that he has apparently been struggling with since Christmas. So that's two underdone talls they have coming in this week to add to Schoenmakers who surely has rock bottom confidence after being pantsed by Cameron last week. Forward pressure will be important. With Lewis and Hodge out, we need to shut down Mitchell. I think Cross would be perfect it and if he does the job we will go a long way to winning contested ball and clearances. If we can do that I really believe we are not without a sneaky chance. Good start is a must though. I'd like to see: Bail to play a full game as defensive forward on Burgoyne (or whoever is providing the most rebound if Burgoyne plays on ball). Garland to Gunston. McDonald to Roughead. Matt Jones running with Smith. Salem on Rioli. Grimes to Bruest. I'd love to see Gawn in this week, either in place of Spencer (who I do not rate) or in addition to him. 6 contested marks for casey (11 in total), 19 touches, 22 hitouts and a goal (on the back of 3 goals the week before - though reviews were not super complementary). Named in the best. We are pretty short for this game and I think he could stretch their defence without Lake. Whilst my expectations are low, I'm more optimistic than going into the last two weeks.

I think part of it is confidence. Lots of the kicks were in pressure situations and he seemed to play more inside than he would in the seniors. A few were flat out clangers. With better midfield support around and forward targets in the seniors I expect his disposal would actually be better than worse (due to less time and space) as he wouldn't need to try to do so much. It was a bad game. But I have seen him play plenty of clean games. His workrate is high, he is finding the ball, but is low on confidence. It will come. Hope is not lost!

I just finished watching the replay. They played better than I expected after reading the thread. Umpiring was ok in the first half but a string of soft decisions at the start of the third really cost us. Dominated the last quarter but didn't make the most of our opportunities. Regarding Spencer, my impression was that he was much better around the ground than usual and not making the classic stuff ups. Took a couple of great contested grabs. I felt that he struggled in ruck contests against Minson. For most of the game I would have been ok with him getting the call up (and I have never been a fan) but his last quarter was a bit disappointing. Gawn did well in the ruck contests but very average otherwise. Jack Grimes was clearly our best. Clean. A class above. Terlich got better as the game went on and had quite a good second half. Harmes was the one who really impressed me. Inside and outside work. Clearances. Great grab and goal in the last quarter. Needs to get a bit more of the ball but could be a good sub this week. I'm a Toumpas fan but his disposal was deplorable. Endeavour was great, tackling, running all day...but turnover after turnover. Needs more time at Casey. Riley was solid. Usual good inside work, didn't notice any glaring disposal errors. Matt Jones had a great last quarter running the lines. Otherwise he was quiet. Jordie had a hard working, blue collar game. Stretch's class stood out. Not afraid of contact, made some good tackles, worked hard. IMO he isn't ready though. Needs to get more of the ball. Maybe second half of the season Pedersen was average. Did a few good things but was quiet for most of the game. Fitzy was our best big man IMO. His numbers surprise me, felt like he had it more. Beaten in a contest once or twice but otherwise at least broke even in contests, took a few great grabs in defence, used the ball as well as anyone. Could be used as a back up ruck and to cover Sandilands or Clarke when they go forward.

Henderson's family were never Melbourne supporters - a mix of Essendon and Collingwood. Obviously they are now Carlton. I do know we were heavily into him prior to the draft that year and his family were keen (just because the other club heavily into him was Brisbane and they wanted him to stay in Vic).

The thing I love about him is that he is always presenting. He's always the one getting those short chip kicks down the wing because he works so hard. His kicking lets him down at times though
