  1. Swallow is better than Scully (due to scully's poor kicking), but Scully is a gun anyway so who cares. If we can get Jack Darling it would be huge. He is exactly the type of player our forward line needs. Doesn't matter that he isn't a giant as long as he can bash some packs!
  2. Lynch is as good as delisted. i think we could get him for whatever we wanted. not sure he will be the solution but im certainly not opposed. I don't think we'd lose anything bringing him over for a year
  3. Moloney must come in, but you can't drop jones on the game today. One of Benny and Aussie may go. Benny is probably the least-well(worst) performed player over the last few weeks, but his speed is really damaging and creates goals. We are pretty well covered down back with MacD, bail, bruce, barty etc and don't need him there (plus his disposal is a risk). Aussie is not as fast, but he has tended to get more of the ball and his pressure has been better. Tough one and it will come down to matchups, I'd favour dropping benny. Could push Bail forward to replace either. Warnock played a great game for casey, but as you said i don't think you can drop any of our defenders. Rivers would probably be the man for Roughead. Frawley could take Buddy, or Garland has previously done a good job on him which could release chip for some rebounding
  4. Bailey decides if they come back through casey or straight into the seniors. Has anyone been upgraded for Petterd? I think McKenzie is our nominated rookie.
  5. I missed the first quarter but saw the rest and came home feeling pretty happy. Firstly I was furious that Sylvia has been made to come back through casey and IMO he showed that my feelings were more than justified. That his return was pushed back a week because casey had a bye, makes it even stupider. I will never agree with bailey's cautious approach in these matters. Bail - outstanding game. strong marking, reliable, excellent disposal. what a great improver he has been this year. Newton - was close to BOG with Bail. Spent a lot of time in the ruck, and could be a handy backup for jamar. was in everything when on. has to be ahead of miller to come back into the team. Maric - meh, geot plenty of it but disposal was very hit and miss. Wonna - copped an injury. Jurrah - was great. kicked 3, gave 2 off in the goalsquare, yet you can see he still has so much more improvement in him. His hands weren't quite as we know them, but that will come. His second efforts were great. I want to see him back in the red and blue and IMO he is ready. Sylvia - the usual...goals, strong marks, smart play. should be straight back in. Warnock - meh. hate the ball in his hands in defence even at this level. defended well. Miller - a few strong marks and goals. was good but overshadowed by others Morton - played mostly in defence. I don't think he is a defender but he was quite comfortable down there today. Strauss - don't think he came back on after half time. didn't stand out prior to the ?leg injury and still needs to get more of the ball rebounding from the back 50. Bell - didn't notice him much, but he does seem to do a lot of work in the packs which is hard to spot. Good at this level but his poor awareness was highlighted a couple of times in succession (in part due to poor handballs from teammates) where he turned straight into tackles. He got away with it both times, but I think the tackles would stick at afl level. i'd love him to make it, but...mmm. Fitzpatrick - was thereabouts early but faded in the second half. On a side note, Wall and McCreadie were fantastic. I watched the first half of the seconds. Martin - as has already been said, lots of marks in forward 50 and lots of set shot misses. Tapscott - liked his first half. got heaps of the ball, tough in the contests (i think he was on the bottom of the first two packs of the game) but disposal was up and down. was lively in forward 50. Blease - left me with a happy feeling inside. wow! casey seconds...but his kicking was perfect (even under intense pressure), speedy, backed himself, and i think his skills will translate well to afl level. Can't wait to see him at senior level. As mentioned, he was puffing away on the bench, and wasn't doing a lot of running off the ball, but that is to be expected given his preparation. Get excited, seriously! I would like to see Bail, Sylvia, Jurrah, Newton and Morton in next week. However, knowing the way bailey approaches players returning from injury, i would expect Bail, Jurrah and Newton to have another weekend dominating at casey.
  6. sylvia to come back via casey? laughable. straight back in. we mark him harder because we know what he is capable of, but even when he doesn't meet our expectations, most of the time (including recent weeks) he still contributes enough. the club has said he had been suffering over most of the season with this pain in his foot, which is likely to have contributed to his lower output. i would expect an immediate improvement. plus casey have a week off this week which would push his return back further.
  7. The football department have already shown that they will drop Warnock before Rivers, so people need to give up on that idea. This is not a selection issue, but morton showed last week that he is a winger (not hb), please keep playing him there, or on the hf flank. in sylvia, mcdonald outs mckenzie, watts/miller gysberts definitely stays in. both outs will be unlucky but sylvia and mcdonald are big ins. I don't think we can have DUnn, Miller and Watts in the same forwardline at the moment. Dunn played a great game up forward (his rightful position!) last week so it is out of watts and miller IMO. i can't decide between the two of them, so it would probably come down to who is following coaching orders best.

    Jim Stynes

all cancers are not equal. cancers derived from different areas of the body vary in their behaviour and how aggressive they are. Jim hasn't stated in the media the type of cancer he has (as far as i know), but i have heard it is melanoma. Again, there are various different types of melanoma with various different attached prognoses. What I'm trying to say here is that we cannot compare the experiences we have had with our family and friends, who are likely to has faced different fights, and that we do not have enough information to know how jimmy is going. I suspect that it is not looking good, but jimmy is young and a fighter. people can and do survive against the odds and if anyone has a chance at beating it, it is jimmy.
  9. I thought our defence was outstanding. All the talk on radio after the game was about how collingwood lost the game with inaccurate kicking at goal, but if you look at the map of shots (and having just watched the replay), almost all of their misses were 45-55m out and/or on greater than a 45 degree angle and/or under a lot of pressure. We pushed them out and wide making it harder to kick goals (and malthouse made mention of this in his presser). I think we probably missed more easy shots (brad green!). The draw was disappointing but there were some huge positives from the game - the way we fought back after an atrocious start and hung in there despite playing badly, we were without a number of good players to come back soon (sylvia, mcdonald, jurrah), morton and garland back to their best, frawley (i love this man!), moloney and jamar dominating...etc There are still plenty of areas for improvement, but I'm glad that we have worked our way back into some form after a very poor last month or so.
  10. I don't think maric will get the call up based on this game, but those writing him off completely can have a rest for a week i think.
  11. Strange, I could have sworn Maric kicked 3. Maybe i need my eyes checked...
  12. I was at the game and just rode my deadly treadly home. The usual suspects for casey played well: wall, stockdale, and panozza was pretty good too. I thought it was a pretty even effort across the melbourne boys. Hard to pick out stand out players and most of the game was played on the outer side so it was hard to see who was who. but here is my take: Bail - i arrived 5 mins late and saw him looking very groggy walking to the dugout. Later heard a guy in melbourne gear saying he'd been taken to hospital to have a look at his jaw. Newton - did some really good smart things and some bad things. not enough for a senior recall but he certainly has talent (we all knew that already though, didn't we?). One of the tall players who let the team down in the air (see PJ's comment) Strauss - I thought he did really well. His kicking really stood out in what was a very very windy day, but didn't always make the right decision. Was given the job on mark williams and did well in that role generally. Could be a chance this week Jordie - The kind of in and under game you would expect from jordie. I didn't notice any injury, and he played out the game. Would be a chance for a call up but didn't demand it. Cheney - took one really strong mark about 30 metres out to prevent a probable goal in the third (?) qtr - it almost had me demanding his call up on its own. Generally a pretty dependable game, except when caught in defensive 50 in the last (thankfully they kicked a point). Could justify a call up IMO Maric - I thought he was really good early. Kicking stood out throughout the day, and he kicked a couple of beautiful long goals in the first 1/4. But, he faded as the game went on and didn't feature all that much when moved into the middle in the second 1/2. had a much bigger impact up forward IMO. PJ - I wasn't impressed with the way all of out talls competed in the air on the outer wing. bendigo repeatedly took almost uncontested marks from casey long bombs. Wasn't only PJ, but our contesting in the air was poor, and given it is his biggest weakness he will be doing nothing for his chances. Played a lot of the game early in defence and was impressive there, but there is no role in defence for him at AFL level. Spencer - was playing ok, without standing out, before being stretched off with a leg injury. Kicked a goal. McNamara - Pretty unobtrusive, did a job Bell - used his big strong body well, but overall impact was limited. just ok. Martin - not his best. muffed two chances in the goal square and did little else apart from a couple of good defensive efforts (when playing in defence - clearly where he is best suited IMO). Im a fan but you get the feeling his confidence is pretty low at the moment. Hughes and Dunn didn't do enough. Both very good at this level but Dunn didn't work hard enough IMO and Hughes dropped a few marks he should have taken. Hughes > Dunn today. Strauss, Jordie McK and Cheney all chances. Benny and the Jet ahead of Maric atm, but I'd have Maric in ahead of Aussie. Don't think there is room for him at this stage.
  13. No late changes to either side
  14. my friend took my heart rate in the last, steady at 72 per min Good to see i can handle the boys trying to give me a heart attack (i am 23 though)
  15. He was drafted as a forward and we have obvious deficiencies there, why not give it a try when he is having a poor game in defence? We have four very capable tall defenders (the recent hate for rivers is ridiculous, he isn't what he was, but he would still get a game in pretty much every defence in teh league), and can spare garland for a one quarter experiment, without tangibly 'weakening' a strong area.
  16. Im with you. I didn't think of it at the time, but the last quarter was the perfect time to try Garland as a forward. He was getting smashed by Le Cras and our forwardline was completely dysfunctional. If DB thought of it and decided not to send him up forward, you have to wonder if he ever will.
  17. They may have been AIS/AFL scholarship holders together. Those teams travel to south africa etc together
  18. Bate will come good. I would hope the forward line would be more like this towards the end of the year: HF: Petterd Bate Sylvia/Green F: Jurrah Watts Bennell (or wonna/maric/jetta etc) Sylvia and Green can rotate through the forwardline and midfield
  19. Rivers played a good game. not sure what else he could have done
  20. Does anyone know if there is a bendigo supporters group and how i can contact them? Emailed the club but have yet to get a response. Cheers
  21. excellent, i.e. stars, does not equal good. we have a lot of good talls but no star talls. Another point is that a forwardline doesn't need to have a lots of good tall forwards to be effective. IMO we only really need one good tall forward (watts hopefully), who can work with our undersized talls (jurrah, Bate), smalls (wonna, maric, petterd), and other types we can rotate through (Green, Sylvia, Bruce, DUnn, morton). Plus the possibility of moving Garland up forward, pending his recovery. IMO that makes for a pretty dynamic forwardline. So yes, we probably could do with another KPP forward, but it is not urgent and we should be going best available (at least at 11, 18 is fair game i guess).
  22. no no no no no no! dowler is a spud and for jamar, dear oh dear, who would ruck for us then? no
  23. hey im with you mate I think pick 18 would be fair in this draft. he's no spud
  24. I'd like him if we can get him over on the cheap
