Agree. It was dumb football, you can’t give the umps the opportunity to give the pies a free. The Pearce in the back was particularly unnecessary- need to just be going for the spoil in that situation and should have cost us the win if not for the terrible kick by the pies player. I hope they have focused on making smarter decisions in tight games this week. Giving up so many frees in the last two mins is not acceptable, whether the frees are justified or not. The way to nearly beat the Dees is have them so decimated by injury that they can barely fill a team 🙄

Very impressive half. I haven’t caught all of it but we look really fit. Outnumbering Crows at most contests, cleaner with our hands and hitting targets. The usual suspects dominating, Hanks, McNamara, Hore etc. Chaplin rock solid in defence.

That is because everyone has been waiting for their 3 oldest players to drop off as you would expect - Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Howe. They are probably all in their top 5 players this year and hugely important to them. Once they are gone, Pies will drop like a sack’o’spuds.

Lever definitely spent a fair bit of time on Harvey. I think McVee was mostly on Curtis.

I thought we were appalling, especially the first half. I nearly turned off at half time which is unheard off for me. We looked every bit a bottom 4 team. We lost the game with our own ineptitude. But even then, with even-handed umpiring we would have won (bc Carlton are [censored] too). So we lost in two ways. It’s not taking away from our poor game to say the umpires cost us big time. We should have been good enough, however, to beat Carlton even with a leg up from the umps.

Bring in Sparrow (so underrated on demonland IMO) and Petty. May would be unlucky to be suspended but I think he probably will be. Tholstrup must be dropped. Confidence is rock bottom. Sharp, Lindsay, Jeffo at risk. Though I’d keep Jeffo unless swapping for Kentfield. Keep giving him exposure, the basic errors will improve as the nerves settle with more games. Got to see what he can do given the season is well over. The rest pending Casey tomorrow, maybe Spargo, Howes? It’s a shame Sestan is still out.

Umpires willed Carlton over the line in the last (and all game really). I would love to know how the game would have played out with Clarry getting that Htb. All the stats say we should have won that game. Coulda shoulda woulda…didn’t. We are mentally weak as a team and that’s why this keeps on happening. Too many players rushing themselves, worried about being tackled etc etc. On the positive, thank goodness Koz re-signed. We are nothing without him (and Gawn) at the moment. And JVR is starting to look himself again.

But he would be today. They changed the rules after so that a player would be suspended if they do something like that again.

Funnily enough, watching that game I’d rather keep Oliver than Petracca. Petracca seems broken to me since the awful injury - fumbles a lot, pulls out of contests that he may get hurt, rushes to give away the ball rather than taking the tackle. He still does great things bc he is so talented and hardworking but I think what it may well come down to who we can get the best return for. Which is probably Trac.

There wasn’t any time for any of this as the umpire inexplicably called play-on before Gawn had a chance to even look around.

Expected scoring takes into account the difficulty of the shots (angle, distance, set shot vs in play etc) and we finished on a higher score. Sure, we could make things easier for ourselves by marking in the goal square but our goal kicking IS the problem.

Nah that’s BS. We are not bottom 4 and won’t finish bottom 4 but we are clearly the worst kicks at goal in the league. Brings us down from being a possible finals team.
