I find it almost impossible to believe an AFL listed player, on the tail end of several high profile gambling breaches, would bet on his own team to lose.

I don't know about corrupt. But when Andrew Demetriou started at the AFL it was considered a bit of a clunky operation, but basically thought to have the game at heart. Now, though, right or wrong, basically everyone assumes every AFL decision to be dodgy. The AFL is so obsessed with brand management and spin, they it has spun itself into a perpetual state of assumed corruption.

There is rock all point comparing the two expansion clubs to Melbourne. GWS and GC have been built under extraordinary circumstances that are unlikely to be replicated (until the AFL repeats the deal with Tassie and the NT). The key question for me is whether Melbourne will ever be able to build a premiership side. You largely have to be able to keep your list together over a period of four or five years, augmenting strengths, filling holes, improving bit players, building momentum. But we have a knack for losing players at key moments, either through defections or injury. Every time we stack a few bricks, someone or something pulls a few out of the pile.

Does anyone know (including the MRP) how the MRP is supposed to work this season? Based on last year's rules, interpretations and which packets are left in the MRP's Kellog's Variety Pack, I reckon Lynch will get two weeks.

I played in a premiership where one of our blokes (Reggie Stack) kicked a scrubby ball towards the forward pocket boundary, but the ball hit the opposition's runner, bounced sideways and dribbled through the goals for six points. The runner and other team protested, but the umpies and goal umpy were adamant it was a goal, so it was given. (About 5 minutes later I took a mark about 25 out on a 45 and kicked it straight through the points, but it was given a goal. Sun shined on us that day. Very unDemoneque.)

Pretty sure Roos would have kept Sylvia, Frawley and Clark is the price was right, but he did not bust his boiler trying to keep them. Roos would have seen enough of Sylvia (and heard enough) to cut his losses; he would have weighed the price of keeping Frawley against the price of his leaving; and he would have known keeping Clark was a risk.

Freo need to replace Sylvia.
