I would have been comfortable having Fitzy for another year, but I can certainly see why he was cut. (Plus: tunnel ball.)

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
Tony Tea replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
PS: I think better development (and the club not being a basketcase) would have enabled us to do more with Gysberts, who despite having Grover arms, seemed to know how to get the footy in traffic. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

It still tickles me that we would have drafted Melksham with Pick 11 in 2009 if he was available, but he went at pick 10 and we took Gysberts. (At least Melksham is still in the AFL.) -
Yes, fair call. Hopefully we have been busy collecting the attributes necessary to compete with the top teams. For a start, I'm a still concerned we have too many lightweight players.
-
Roos' brief was to instill grunt and intensity. Hopefully Goodwin will build on that with running power.
-
I just hope he's ahead of the curve.
-
Something I've been wondering about ever since Simon Goodwin was appointed as Coach Regent is how his style will stack up against the obviously successful Alistair Clarkson style shown by Clarko himself, and the likes of Adam Simpson and Luke Beveridge.

THREEPEATS - WE STILL LEAD THE FIELD
Tony Tea replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Technically Collingwood also have TWO three-peats: 1927, 1928 & 1929, and 1928, 1929 & 1930. That's why we should call them "hat tricks" and not the Americanised "three-peat". -
There's no "My favourite part of grand final day" for me. Tomorrow is like Cholera v. Typhoid.

Cody Yarran.

A big offer to Danger, if the Dees know he is already committed to Geelong, could be camouflage for another target.
-
Russell's award is a progress payment for the work he's done so far to try to get rid of Melbourne.
-
In your face Dangerfield & Hartlett. We re-signed Pedo. We win.
-
Coming soon: Hillbilly PEDs.

The proof of the pudding is in the icing. Fingers crossed.

Would have been extremely unlikely that Melbourne were the only suitor.
-
Yes. That's what I thought. I heard her about 6.30 Saturday night. Three hours AFTER I tweeted Hartlett was talking to Melbourne.
-
Out of interest, when did Caro first mention HH & Melbourne?
-
Looks like just the sort of player Roos recruits and turns into a good player.

Yesterday Vickery did his best impersonation of the 1987 preliminary final.

Apropos the so-called "secret formula" here is something I wrote on Facebook last week: "It’s a complex formula says AFL footy manager Mark Evans." Yeah, right, complex formula. It's not a complex formula! It's not even a formula. It's a bunch of AFL decision makers sitting behind closed doors making ad hoc and arbitrary decisions on the run to suit any given situation. Formula? Rubbish. The AFL would never lock themselves into a hard and fast formula. They want wriggle room to manufacture outcomes to any given contingency. What's more, most every contingency is a media-fuelled beat-up which requires an AFL knee-jerk solution.

AFL footy is all about big boys knocking over big boys, grunt, power aggression and intensity. I agree 100% with Nathan Burke: "In short, talent is overrated."

The 2009 draft continues to haunt us.
