Essendon VFL v Casey Scorpions - Round 3
kieranbj replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Strange that Grimes is named in Casey side as well as Melbourne starting 18. Also interesting the Fitz is named in the forward line - I know named sides mean little but perhaps a signal of a change (perhaps to replace Pedersen/Spencer as forward ruck and giving O.McDonald a role down back). Disappointing the Dev Tean don't play. Really sucks that Max King and Mitch White are fit but can't play a game of footy. -
I am a big Vic supporter. I was a little disappointed Alex Keath didn't get more of a go in the Shield side this season. He got 1 game and batted well in both innings. He keeps getting referred to as an all-rounder but his bowling is ok at Premier level but I think just too slow at higher level. If he makes it it will be as a batsman. Other people have mentioned the possibility of Big Bash and IPL contracts - the problem for Alex is that he Twenty20 cricket is not at all suited to his game. I hope he sticks with cricket as I think with Rogers and Hussey gone and Finch and Maxwell unavailable a lot of the time there will be spots in the Vics top 6.

Grand Final Sprint - Last chance for glory in 2014
kieranbj replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Blease would need a rest break at the 50m mark. He would win a 25m sprint though -
Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
kieranbj replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't get this one. If the Saints want McCartin they take him at 1 we take Petracca and Brayshaw 2 and 3. Under your deal we trade 1 for 3 and 2nd round for 3rd round but promise to not take McCartin So we take Petracca at 1 and Brayshaw at 2 McCartin to Saints at 3. So out of that deal with downgrade our 2nd round pick to a third round pick and pile the pressure of a number 1 pick on a kid we would have got anyway. Something is missing -
We were too tall the week before and I think getting games into Gawn and having another look at Fitzy took preference. I think it was probably down to Jamar and Pederson for the final big man spot with Jamar ahead on form.

So disappointing that even after multiple pre-seasons was never able to improve his endurance to a level needed to run both ways at AFL level. Quick and can kick a goal, I would think he will get a go somewhere else.

Was just a pleasure to watch this year. Made me think of Junior at times - a type of player I have really missed watching.

Did anyone else watch Misso injury report yesterday? The part we he spoke about Hoges really sparked my interest. He was really quick to answer and deflect and almost seemed agitated at the time the Matt Burgan had asked about Jesse. I watched it a couple times over last night trying to read Dave Misson's body language and came up with the theory that maybe Jesse was going to play for the Dees this week. Article on Melbourne website says Hogan to play this week - mentions VFL in the title but not specifically in the article. Perhaps still an outside chance to come straight into the AFL side? He has been training fully for a while now and is already a class above VFL, similar to what Gold Coast did with Jack Martin after a long time out perhaps?

Gunston not to play - Can Dunn and McDonald handle Roughhead and McEvoy/Hale or perhaps is this a week to have Frawley back. If Frawley does go back does that mean one of Gawn or Fitzpatrick will come in?

Who are the best six kicks in our mighty team?
kieranbj replied to Bobby McKenzie's topic in Melbourne Demons
really surprised to see Howe in so many lists. I consider his set shot kicking below average and his field kicking just average. For mine I think a top 6 would include Watts Dunn Salem Strauss N.Jones Kent -
According to Casey Scorpions twitter account there is a Garland playing for the development squad. Can anyone confirm if that is Colin? If do great news if he getting a half of footy in today.

3 Dees players in particular put a smile on my face on Sunday. Jetta played the best game I have seen him play. Everyone of his possessions was important. He seemed to have some real belief that at this level he is one of the best players on the park. Was also barking orders and offering encouragement to teammates throughout. I thought McKenzie was also very good. Used the ball cleanly and kicked an excellent goal hemmed into the boundary line. Jamar looked very rusty and frustrated around the ground. He fumbled a number of marks he would normally one grab. When the game was on the line in the last 3 centre clearances he was just fantastic, match winning ruck work. Needs at least another week to regain touch (probably 2) but it was great to be reminded of what he can do.

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
kieranbj replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Whilst injuries are hurting us in that they have crippled a particular sub set of player there could be as many as 20 Demons (including Westrup) playing for Casey on Sunday. 19 if an emergency flies to Sydney -
Any one have any information regarding MFC players available for Casey selection tomorrow. All I have picked up is the Jack Viney is likely to line up for the Scorps again. Anyone planning on doing the Casey/Dees double header?

Before Mitch went on the LTI injury list this would have allowed Georgiou to play the first two rounds as Garland cover.

NAB Challenge 1 - Richmond v Melbourne
kieranbj replied to Bedraggled Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
That leaves Hogan, Salem , Dawes, Viney, Clark, Kent, Garland, Riley, Hunt, Tapscott, Gawn, Jamar, Fitzpatrick, Jetta, Harmes not names in the squad -

So as I understand 2 to be omitted from that squad and 2 to be named substitutes -
Training - Monday 16th December, 2013
kieranbj replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I liked Dawes output when we got him on the park last year. Toiled manfully. An important cog. fingers crossed he can get passed these injury issues. -
I just don't understand how he managed to crack 13 games at Geelong over the last couple of years when they were so dominant.
-
Played some good footy with us. Tough and honest. A pity he didn't play out the season, his last game for the Scorps was a beauty - could have been the difference in getting over the line against Werribe.

2013 Player Review - # 26 Daniel Nicholson
kieranbj replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Showed a little bit mid year playing a run with role through the middle. At best a back up for McKenzie or one of our small backs. On thin ice. -
Why do we have a VFL review weekly and no AFL review
kieranbj replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
You think because a player review PR piece is not put on the website Neeld isn't giving player feedback? The VFL player reviews are there as an update for fans who are most likely unable to watch the VFL game on the weekend. Every MFC match is televised! -
Did anyone think the loss of Byrnes hurt us last weeekend?
kieranbj replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think Davey stood up and played the high half forward/ forward pocket role that Brynes has been playing all season tremendously well on the weekend. For me he was our best player for the day and relished finally being given some freedom and responsibility from Neeld. That is not to say I think Davey has taken Brynes spot, I see no reason why they can't play in the same side. Having those two kicking inside 50 / for goal is a good thing for the side. Ro Bails HFF role could be in jeopardy if Brynes returns. -
If Watts is fit he would be in for me. Play him forward with Dawes. We must play as many of our better kicks as possible. Davey, Strauss, Watts, Dawes and Dunn are great with the footy in hand. I think it is a perfect week to give Max a rest. He looked weary this week. When he relieved Jamar in the ruck Vickery was given free roam. Also he wasn't nearly as active up forward as he has been in previous weeks. I think the big ground out West could really expose him. Fitzy is more mobile and has been playing decent footy all year. Blease could also come in to calculations. Would enjoy the space out at Subbi. In: Watts, Blease, Fitzpatrick Out: Toumpas, Gawn, Bail
