I like the MFC supporters base. Rarely Boo inappropriately, they have a good feel for the game, applaud great play from either team, knowledgeable of the rules, don't make ridiculous calls to the umpires, humble, happy, and many more virtues. Would not want to be a supporter of Woods, Blues, Bombs, or Coasters. I don't know enough about the SA teams fans. If getting big crowds turns us into similar packs of narcissistic fanatics it would diminish my joy of the game. Our suupport isn't perfect, though it's qualities are much better than many. We are the type supporters base I like belonging to. Go Dees10 points

I have supported the Dees since I was a kid and a Trident member for the past 18 years. I have attended games in Darwin, Alice, Canberra and Sydney. Whether I attend a particular game or not is dependent on a myriad of personal reasons I imagine our 60k plus members and however many supporters also do so for their own reasons. The generalised put down of those who chose ( for their own reasons) not to attend the game is arrogant and sanctimonious piffle6 points

Excuse you. I'd much rather my unsubstantiated opinion be unchallenged.6 points

Take the top 10 pick to the draft and go hard at Miles Bergman next year, looked at his options last time before re-signing and he’s 6 years younger than Houston6 points

Prediction… Waterman will stay at Eagles Allen will stay at Eagles Houston will stay at Port There’s a lot of player managers who put out this type of information and the media laps it up !!! it’s to get a better deal for their players.5 points

Imagine if Clarry did a Tyson Stengle, the media & footy world would go into a frenzied meltdown Different rules apply for different clubs5 points

I think you will be disappointed. One definitely wont be there.5 points

Ummm no he wouldn’t. He has a serious injury and he’s lucky to have avoided surgery. Most players miss weeks if not months with this type of injury.5 points

I like Houston, I really do. He would have been the perfect Melbourne pick perhaps around 2021/2022, but I think with where we are at in terms of list demographic, I'd be happy to hit the draft and get a Cummings as a free agent.5 points

Been a while since Ricky Mentha's come up anywhere. Gippsland have moved him to half back and looks like the switch paid off last weekend: Stats: 22 disposals, 5 marks, 7 rebound 50s Mentha had perhaps his best performance of the season to date for the Power, constantly providing dash and drive coming out of his side’s defensive 50. On numerous occasions he showed great speed and composure under pressure to get the opposition off guard on their transition. His silky skills, pressure acts and decision making were all features although at times his disposal by hand missed targets. Mentha showed great pace especially when it came to reading the play with loose ground balls and at times stood at the last line of defence where he saved a certain goal in the second quarter getting a hand to it before going over for the score. * from Rookie Me's CTL scouting notes https://central.rookieme.com/afl/2024/07/31/scouting-notes-2024-coates-talent-league-round-16/4 points

More incredible drafting from Jason Taylor. One of only three 2023 draftees to have played every game so far. The best debut season i've seen for an MFC player since Clayton Oliver. The first season is tough for first years. They're young and come to the club a month after preseason training has started. Despite this he seems to have amazing fitness, averaging 82% TOG in his last seven games. It's a shame, but if he takes the rest of the season to get the foot right and freshen up, He'll ideally be in perfect nick to start day 1 of the 2025 preseason. Imagine if he could get up to 85-90% TOG in season 2, him alongside Langdon gives us incredible weapons on the wings.4 points

I agree with this, especially considering we have two potential key position players to draft next year. Getting a genuine gun midfielder to complement Windsor & Kolt from last year is an absolute must in my eyes. The only other option I see is if JT and co think there are 15-20 players they rank in a similar level, they may look to split our first with Freo's two first rounders and use one for Houston and take the other to the draft....4 points

What a disappointing end for Caleb Windsor he has been a bit of a bright shiney light for us all year and timing was terrible. Hope you have a quick and complete recovery Caleb.!!4 points

It's a joke and I'm surprised how many people fobbed it off early in the thread with the attitude of 'I don't need to be there for the team to play well', I don't think crowds have a direct impact on performance but it's not about that. It's about sustaining the club and helping it stay healthy off the field for years to come. It was only 10 years ago when we were on our knees and hemorrhaging money like no-one' business the short memory of some people is incredible. To the people don't give a rip about the embarrassing crowd on Sat night who also complain about still playing in Alice Springs, never getting a good fixture with prime time slots and always Sunday 4:40, having home games at Marvel in the past etc there is no such thing as a free lunch so either get on board or be happy with the above.4 points

Not against getting Houston, but trading our future picks through to '26 could be fraught with danger. Tassie will begin to hit the draft from '27 onwards so we need to make the most of our picks between now and then.3 points

Moralising about football attendance is absurd. There are endless reasons why supporters may or may not attend games and who are we to judge others we don't know. Media potshots regarding MFC game day attendance is an annual event that plays to a stereotype that is unsupported by the statistics. Ignore. Any ire from the low attendance should be directed at the AFL's scheduling.3 points

Still way overs for a 28 year old HBF. As much as I like what Houston would bring next year I can’t see it not biting us if we are forced to overpay.3 points

Worth keeping in mind that AFL are a good chance of approving draft picks from up to 2 future drafts from this years trade period. Our solution might be 1st rounders from ‘25 & ‘26 drafts.3 points

Some really interesting points made, great thread. Coming round to the idea of F1st or nothing for Houston. Definitely don't want to give up this year's pick with all the gun mids in it.3 points

What don't I think is relevant? I think life is complex and football isn't everyone's priority. But if you're the sort of supporter that goes in the good times and then jumps off when the going gets a bit tough, I don't have a lot of sympathy and I don't really care if I hurt your feelings.3 points

Been a shining light in a rocky year, the player I'm most excited about going forward. Put him on ice, forget round 24. He's been enormous for us. Give Windsor and Kolt a pre-season under Trac's wing and they'll have a big say in what our season could look like next year.3 points
