  1. Gotta say, for a man with supposed "serious" character flaws, Goodwin seems to be able to quickly gain the respect of players. Effectively every player he's recruited has said something along the lines of "I joined Melbourne because I was blown away by Simon Goodwin and his presentation".

  2. Correct! Steven May had all but agreed to be a Pie until his manager suggested a chat with Goody. After one phone call with him, he told his manager to find a way to get him to The Dees.

  3. The media will now start say he was bullied to come to Melbourne.........

  4. A higher profile for player managers is probably the last thing we need. But if they are favourable to us I guess we should take it. It would be interesting to know what made the Saints so toxic for Dunstan. Clearly the coach didn’t love his game nor guarantee him a best 22 spot but it seems there was more than just being a fringe player that upset him. Goody’s sell was surely around valuing and improving his game more than a spot in the side. We’ll soon get to see what improvements he’s made.

  5. 9.10.64, Clint. Sounds like 1964 when you say it out loud.

  6. I just watched the trailer on Stan for said documentary series. I’ve never been so glad to not be a professional footballer in my life. Bunch of self-aggrandising salesman pretending to have an interest in the lives of young men for huge financial gain. Honestly this is not what our sport needs. I’d rather see a documentary about regional footy teams doing everything to survive rather than some bell end in a Bentley - telling us how hard he has to work just to make 600k a year.

  7. The injury list was our most valuable player in our premiership year and here's hoping that continues next year. Hopefully ANB's knee concern isn't concerning. Tomlinson will be a good replacement for Petty if he's not available for the start of the season. Those two are probably fighting for the one spot regardless.

  9. Yes, and more people should. Anyone who has read my posts on here would know I have a very low opinion of the "media". Neroli Meadows has me thinking not all media/ people are created equally. This is raw and honest interviewing without judgement or sensationalism for "points" (read clicks). Ultimately a "bogan" from Frankston ( Somerville) can teach us all a lesson in humility, reality and acceptance. At the same time giving an understanding of the importance of support and appreciation of a situation. For clarification: I'm a product of "Dovfton" so I can use the adjective "bogan" with some authority. This podcast should be required listening , not necessarily for Dee's supporters but for anyone who is battling with their circumstances/emotions/ inability to move on. On a very Melbourne FC point of view; I must emphasis the "Melbourne Way". Anyone who listen's to this podcast should be taken by the honesty and in turn support of a quality individual that results in a wonderful premiership player and a wonderful role model to show the way.

  11. I found David King so annoying last year saying that a healthy list is an extra player when you get to finals... but as it turned out he was dead right. All the other "contenders" except maybe Port were missing key structural players and couldn't handle it. Fingers crossed for this year!

  12. Ahhh yes Cards. The chances of copping a fist behind the earhole or a swift one to the guts was pretty much guaranteed against those apes. I remember the heavily tattooed McSweeney brothers as particularly nasty individuals. I had to wait a whole year to repay the favour to one of those bustards. In those days (early 80's) there was only one field umpire. I just happened to play cricket with the guy who was umpiring my revenge game. I played in the middle and teed it up with the umpire to look and see where my opponent and I were standing and then he would ensure that his back was towards us as he bounced the footy to start the game. The ball was bounced and the objective achieved. The umpire of course saw nothing.

  13. I know many unfortunate life events have challenged the Saints coach. Maybe Im wrong but I am surprised he still is the coach. The saints are showing immense faith in him. I cant rule out that my perspective is altered since our club has moved forward so much in the last few years.

  15. I find it totally amazing that crowds are welcome at Casey Fields for the womens series, but gates are locked and I cannot get into Casey Fields to watch training, having to obtain a second hand view from outside the fence. I'm often the ONLY person there. Also you see contractors working inside the ground at these times as well. I'm triple vacced and wear a mask. Staggering really!
