I have seen Rich play several times and he is special. I would not be at all surprised if he turned out to be every bit as good as Michael Voss.

The kids spatial awareness is breathtaking.

Long accurate kick.

Courage to burn.

yeah i watched the game with my dad and my dads friend who is a teacher at his school apparently he is a very quite kid. another one from sorrento-duncraig like priddis. he was probably BOG in my opinion and would have had about 19 effective disposals out of 20, not bad for a 4 game player.

I remember Goss and Lachy on The Western Front back in March or something talking about how this guy is a young gun waiting to explode. Can't wait to see this lad in action in the AFL, preferrably in WA though...

"There's a few other good prospects like big Nick Nat from swannies and a couple of vics but none of them compare to what Daniel Rich brings to the table."

"I know it's early but I don't think there is any way in hell that he will be passed over by the team with the #1 pick, It's just unbelievable the kind of football he's playing at such a young age."

"Read the paper today and it said the eagles really want him.

we would need the top draft pick to get him.

how would we get him?

trade Rosa n hansen for No. 1 Pick? maybe even more?"

Re: Daniel Rich

"Will need more than Rosa & Hansen for the number one pick. Let me guess Kim Hagdorn suggested that. To get the pick to draft Rich you can say goodbye to Kerr, Cox or Glass."

"To show you what the Eagles think their chances are of getting Rich I overheard one of the teams recruiting guys say they haven't bothered doing a profile on Rich because they are no chance of getting him."

"I usually think the same but I would pick Rich over Naitanui."

"Naitanui has the athletic abilities but his skills are lacking. He was tried at CHB in the pre season and had no impact, went into the ruck and Swans kicked 3 goals in 5 minutes. It is best to watch him when he doesn't have the ball and he stalks the opponent like a lion on an impala. I can see him playing an Adam Goodes style ruckman/rover role in a few years."

"On the same night Rich kicked in from a behind and spotted a man in the centre square on the run. The player didn't break stride, had two opponents close and took two steps then kicked it onto the [censored] of a forward. It was all set up from a 60m flat pinpoint pass from Rich. The thing with Rich was that kick wasn't a fluke but the norm."

now we have context...sounded like a rant otherwise.

Of course.. he'll only know what he knows !..If he's a likely one...everyone will talk to him.. telling us ??

I have not seen Rich play but i know i would be definitely drafting Naitanui if we have the opportunity to do so. White is nearly finished as we know and it would be great to pick him up as he is good now but has even more potential in him to be great and also has a face and image that could create a cult following player that we have lacked for many many many years!

Great another 196cm ruckman. We need KPP key forwards mainly if Naitanui can play KP we get him if not don't waste first pick on a small ruckman that can jump.

jamie charman is one of the best ruckman going around and is 196cm. Kruiser is 199cm. do people realize that 3 or so cm is nothing. especially when you have the biggest leap the game has ever seen.

plus he's only 17 so might grow to 198ishcm

I've said it before elsewhere on these boards and I'll say it again - Daniel Rich is solid gold. Any club who passes on him will look silly in a couple of years. We must draft him if we get the chance.

With regard to Naitanui, I'm all for taking a risk to get a huge return, but not in this case, when Daniel Rich provides a rolled-gold alternative to Naitanui's admirable physical attributes but uncertain skills.

And to think that if Melbourne was playing like it is now way back in Round 22 we would have been well placed to secure both he and the Fijian kid at the end of the year draft.

We wouldn't have even been accused of tanking either!

Totally agree. 100%

Recruiters are not going to make the same mistake as with Joel Selwood 2 yrs ago. Rich has NO weaknesses. Although our club has many weaknesses (esp KPP), we have not won in the midfield for many years now. Rich will be the answer to allow Mclean, Jones, Bartram, Bate, Morton, Davey etc to blossom in the midfield. Cannot pass him up and we won't if we finish with the no. 1 pick.

We can't get both natainui and rich, so go for the the surest, safest pick. The WAFL watchers have not seen quality like this ever in a young midfielder at his age.

The quality of KPP in this draft is good and runs relatively deep.

There is a lot of merit in what you say.

We have not had a super star since G Lyon. Rich by the sounds of it may turn out to be a real gun and you cannot win a premiership without a gun midfield.

Also we have had a habit of stuffing up early picks so the sure thing may be the way to go.

Looking back in hindsight to the draft which saw Roughhead and Franklin go to Hawthorn while Richmond passed them up to take Deludio and Tambling, I would definetly lean towards the bigger player.

They still have 6 months to improve, grow and develop, including a National competition, so time may make the choice clearer, but history shows that big is often better.

Teams who drafted Kepler Bradley, Tim Walsh, Luke Molan, Luke Livingston, Andrew McDougall, Dylan Smith and Angwin might disagree.

Yep this kid is a deadset gun, and if we get the first selection in the draft I wouldn't hesitate to pick him over Natinui. Unbelievable midfielder for his age, matching with the best in the WAFL at only 17.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
