seriously...

it is obvious to everyone we don't have the skill and ability to execute Bailey's game plan...we turned the ball over so many times today handballing when we should have kicked it...i am sick of everyone saying "we need time"...the way we are playing we WILL NOT WIN A GAME THIS YEAR!!!!!

pre-season and 4 games into the year we haven't even won a QUARTER of football...coach has a lot to answer for...if i hear that he is excited for the future in his press conference I WILL F'N SCREAM!!!!!

I doubt our players have the skill to follow any game plan at this stage. Id rather Bailey stick to the game plan and improve the skills of our players to make it work.

We won the last quarter!!

But, you must realise something.....

He has a tough task at the moment....

How is a coach supposed to win an AFL premiership when he has a group of players with the skill level of Doveton's Under 10's squad?!?!?!

And to be honest..... Doveton's Under 10's have shitloads more passion!

Posted

Doesnt matter what the gameplan is

If you have retards that cant kick a footy to save themselves eg. Bruce, Bell, C.Johnson then what hope do you have of winning?

i don't blame bailey for this one at all. these players are afl players and need to be up to standard. he is introducing a game plan that is meant to win an afl premiership. if players can't follow it they are out. if players try to follow it they are given time to learn, and improve their skills. these players are proffesional footballers. if they cant learn to kick and handball it is them who have the problems.

we will see dramatic list turn over over the next 2 seasons.

Whatever that might be.

Whoops .. we won the last quarter today.

coach has a lot to answer for...

Certainly does, as do the assistant coaches.

What I'd like to hear Bailey say is: the bucks stops with me. I, as well as the players and other coaches, am accountable

Why not? Our list may not be that good, but we do have a good number of talented footballers. So, why are they all playing so badly. Even Alves on the radio today said: its so sad to see so many good players floundering, just out of form.

Bailey won't last the year.

The game plan is a game plan designed to win intense games, and maybe even a premiership.

Our skills aren't good enough to win a premiership.

If our skills were good enough to win a premiership, this game plan would be good enough to win a premiership.

Winning a premiership is my goal.

Therefore...

Bring the skill level up enough to win a premiership.

Which takes time. Sorry.

I understand that, while waiting, it suits you to.. uhh.. "leave you finger in", but in the meantime I'll be content watching a few kids like Morton and Wonaeamirri develop, while Davey, Mclean and Sylvia all find a bit more form, Whelan, Bartram and Rivers gradually work their way back from injury, Bate returns... etc.. etc..

We will be winning games as often as not, by the middle of this season. I don't doubt it.

Well then if that's the case, we'll be coachless. Who in their right mind would want to coach US?

I guarantee that Dean Bailey will be around for a few more years yet!

The bloke is trying to implement an accountable, team orientated game plan....

He is trying to implement it with a team that is full of unaccountable individuals!

The bloke has a tougher job than Dennis Pagan did at Carlton....

His press conference was good I thought.... Too many mistakes, [censored] decisions and not one stand out player!

He is seeing exactly the same stuff that we and the media are seeing.....

The difference is that he is trying to do something about it!

Give the man a F***ING break!

Or [censored] off and support another club!

Bailey won't last the year.

of course he will. we need off field stability just as importantly as on field success at the moment. after all the processes we went through, we couldnt possibly sack the coach mid year.

the players are playing so badly for the same reason we played badly last year. for the same reason a couple of players struggled the year before. the quality of a players disposal is their responsibility. i suppose the coaches might have to walk them through some basics, but they are afl footballers, not under 13's that need to be taught how to drop the ball correctly.

we have have two distinct issues here. for me the most important is that the players disposal is substandard. all of them. all over the ground. players miss targets by hand and foot. their passes are hospital passes (leave the player exposed while gathering the ball, rather than letting them run onto it). disposal is often to the wrong side of contests (probably because the skill level is down). this needs to be fixed no doubt.

often however disposal looks worse because of a luck of intuition of the game plan. players handball to stationary players. kick to stationary players. they don't look like they know where to run. in fact it looks like they are trying to play two plans; the link up running plan, and the kick to possession plan. players are often in a position for neither, which makes the disposal look poor.

good stuff, that sums up the situation i reckon.

If the players can't execute a simple game plan because they have the worst skills in the competition, you get rid of the players, not the game plan.

Bailey's game plan is based on where the game is headed. If we can't keep up, we have to change the team.

This is exactly the opposite of what Daniher used to do, which was dictate the game plan around the players, and since our players are mostly terrible, we never won anything.

I probably should have said that he won't last IF THIS KEEPS HAPPENING

I disagree. What has been dished up this year is just pathetic, not inept like much of last year. Whatever skill or talent the players had seems to have been removed in one shot. It is so bad as to be almost unbelievable. It is simply a joke.

Get a grip. Of course we need time, how long we'll see down the track. I'm guessing four years. Look at Geelong a few years back. Sack Bomber! was the call from the Cattery. Check them now.

Are you seriously suggesting we have both the cattle and experience needed for our younger players to be fighting for a finals spot this year?

There is no quick fix and anyone calling for DB's scalp now is living in dreamland.

but do you mono, believe that the lack of skills is a function of baileys coaching? they cant hit targets, whose fault is that?

bailey has come in, he obviously has a lot of stuff to change, game plans etc preseason is all about fitness normally, but perhaps next preseason is about skills not fitness.

as supporters we should all hold the new coach accountable...2 years ago we were top of the table...now (with pretty much the same list) today we are a rabble...

the difference between us and the Geelongs and Hawthorns of 2-3 years ago is that they had actual quality depth and young players with the ability to hold down key positions...the weetra's. bode's, garland's, sylvia's, newton's, dunn's and many more will not win us a premiership!!

we are a kicking team that can beat side's with rebound footy...all this handball [censored] is not us and never will be due to the fact that we don't have the players to implement the game plan...we don't have pace and we don't have the skills...FACT!

if you spent a year in your job and performed like Melbourne have been performing...would you not be held accountable???

Because he's been at the club for 10 minutes and most of our senior players have been at the club for more than 10 years.

In all honestly, how the hell can anyone blame the coach when our players are just incapable of hitting targets?

He did not select these players, he inherited them. Now they have a deadline, perform by round 6 or away you go.

Bailey is the least of our problems, in fact, I'm glad we're having our downfall now and not under Daniher.

People need to get over the the Demons being on top of the table 2 years ago after about round 17 or 18. The fact remains we fell away badly and missed out on a top 4 spot, almost always got smashed when we played the strong interstate clubs on thier grounds and were never close to a premiership with that group. That ladder postion was fools gold.

Look at Port Adelaide, they made the GF last year, but how close are they(or were they), to actually winning a premiership?

Nothing wrong with the game plan.

Players skill levels are causing numerous turnovers...which cost us at least 7 goals today..

Even the great man Rivers today turned it over....During the 3rd quarter, he had the ball on the halfback flank, took 3 bounces and under no pressure kicked out on the full!!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
