CHF & CHB For Round 1?

Two very very important key positions that need filling and I'm somewhat nervous about these two in particular. Obvioulsy if Rivers is ok, that solves the CHB problem, but who is going to rise above it at the other end. Dutchy? Has performed well there in the past or Miller, who in reality, the jury is still out with???

Comments please?

Is my nervous tension over these two positions valid or can someone ease my pain???

As much as I'd love Rivers there at CHB, the general consensus around here is that he'll be lining up for Sandy this weekend.

Holland - CHB

Miller- CHF

My defence would be:

Frawley on Mark Williams

Carroll on Roughead

Bell on Buddy Franklin

Holland on Tim Boyle

Wheatley to help out as well.

My attack would be:

Miller chasing marks between 60-80 mtrs from goal

Neitz and Robbo staying close to goal

Juice to hang around 35-50.

Davey to play most of game as our crumber (due to Bate and Sylvia missing)

Yze to hang around the goals as well. The defence experiment has failed in my book.

If our defence is getting caned (highly likely) Miller is to go back and Holland could possibly go foward (ala 2004 and late last year)

My major request is for Bailey to urge these boys to bloody kick the thing long at all costs. We have no ability to play the handball game.

I can't see Holland being picked this week. Shouldn't be on the list imo (but that is an argument for another thread).

Assuming Rivers does not play.

I originally thought Frawley was our only option for Franklin but another poster has made a good point about Dunn. Perhaps that is worth a go first with Frawley or Miller in reserve?

Firstly i dont understand the whole thing about playing Rivers in Sandy instead of putting him in the side when he is healthy. Maybe i would go down this avenue if i thought our defense was fantastic but it isnt! Why play him at sandy where he can get injured anyway!

He is needed more than anyone on our list especially playing the Hawks!

If rivers cant get up-

I say throw Frawley in the deep end and stick him on buddy, if it doesnt work, it doesnt work. Like i said we dont have much options if rivers does not get up

I'd rather Frawley at CHB and Dunn at CHF. Seeing Dutchy line up at CHB, is just going back instead of moving forward.

Miller at CHB is an option, but he most definitely should not go anywhere near Buddy.

I also don't mind the suggestion of Dunn on Franklin.

I like the look of this set up the best.

Frawley did a pretty good job on on Jarred Waite last year, who has similar athleticism. But the reality is, if Buddy gets enough good supply, he will destroy us.

Be interesting...if we can choke the midfield (not that we've shown that much to this point), then buddy become less and less effective. He is a good player on the lead - not a pack marker yet. Wouold not be surprised if whoever plays onhim pushes off a lot - maybe even Bruce. Before people report me to the mental health services, remember that bruce has played marker roles before and done well, particularly on players like johnson (dogs) and Burton (adeliade).

nobody can take Franklin he will kick 10 unless we somehow paralyse their midfield

I agree we might as well plonk Frawley on him - if its going to be a year of beltings we might as well be getting our future hopes some experience on the best. Same exact theory for Dunn at CHF. Both Holland and Miller should be delisted.

Assuming Rivers (probably) and Bate (certainty) won't play I'll say:

CHF - Miller/Dunn

CHB - Dunn/Bell

I reckon Dunn looks a smart enough player to play in either position - time will tell.

i mean it all depends on what the opposition do in terms of positioning and how many men they play forward...these days you rearly get a perfect FP FF FP HFF CHF HFF Wing Center etc etc...but i would like to see a bigger bodied person step into this role if the skill and perfect timing of rivers was not present, such as Holland because it is a big risk to play a potentially good player such as Dunn as early as this in a match that i think could be so very crucial for our member numbers

Miller should play CHF with Bate injured. It means that he won't be playing defence and that's all that matters.

On a serious note, though, Bate has overtaken Miller as CHF and since he has not playing, this will be Miller's last chance to prove he can play key position forward. While we haven't seen his best in ages, Millers' best was at CHF and he must be tried there otherwise he is virtually useless on our list. By CHF, I reckon play him floating up the ground. He now knows how to kick, so now he hopefully knows what to do when he gets it 60-80m out.
