Ediie and the Pies made a smart move in offering to play 6 games a year on the Gold Coast. If that is rejected they have made the same offer for Sydney's Western suburbs. It means that they will play their other 16 games at the G and will not have to travel to any other state. That is a huge advantage.

The flight to Sydney is only an hour and a half hour longer to the Gold Coast. The business opportunities and membership possibilities are enormous.

They have obviously thought this out and are clearly applying enormous pressure on the Roos to accept the AFL deal.

Then again if we are a little Machiavellian could we suggest it is a bluff conjured up by the AFL.

I think it is a bluff conjured by the AFL.

Having the Pies in the GC will undermine the resettlement of North in GC.

Also sly that the Pies said western Syndey as the alternative. <_<

Let's remember...Eddie has made many a dollar or 2 (personal and for The magpies)...HE'S NOT A SILLY MAN...always one step in front of everyone. If only we could get some of his brains to help with our (MFC) finances!!!!!

I don't think the Pies would ever go if there was a chance that the Roos will commit. In other words, only one team will go there.

So how exactly does Eddie expect to sell away games? They aren't his to sell.

Exactly my question.

If that deal got up then it's undeniable proof that the competition is rigged. If I were the president of any of the 15 other clubs and this deal got up I'd be seeking legal advice ASAP.

It isn't "smart" dealing from Eddie Redleg. It's an outright attempt at cheating.

Good luck asking West Coast to transfer their home game to the Gold Coast

However I hope this deal comes to fruition as Kangaroos will no longer be required to play games on the GC, which means that our game against them in round 4 next year would be transferred to the MCG or TD!

He won't sell home games. This will get Roos to Carrara. They'll play 6 homes games at west sydney and get compensated big time by AFL and they will be all the interstate teams.

They will make the AFL fixturing easier because everyone requests collingwood as an away game.

I'd suggest there fixture would be

5 home at West Syney - interstate teams

1 away West Sydney - Sydney

6 home games at MCG

10 away games at MCG, special deal for pie fans I'll bet

It all makes great business sense for the magpies, it gets the afl into a second team in QLD and a real presense in West Sydney and you have to admire them for thinking way outside the square

This is not what the AFL wants, they want a franchise on the GC not an occasional side. Collingwood needs to let things be for once, the region needs its own team to embrace. Whether its the Kangaroos or a 17th team, they have to train there, live there, and draft the locals from there.

Eddie is just making trouble because he doesn't want the Kangaroos to have any draft concessions or 'out of contract negotiation concessions.'

In his words: 'we've been down this road before' - Eddie is still bitter over those salary cap allowances that the team that beat his team in two grand finals enjoyed.

Poor Eddie, you know he's the real victim in all this...

Whats new? The competition "is" rigged and that come straight from the CEO's mouth, " the draw is done to maximise income and attendances, not fairness".

Yes Redleg. But according to some of the posters here that’s an acceptable mode of operation for the AFL.

McGuire can get away with this. He knows what makes the AFL tick and knows he has the product to deliver. A product that has been developed with the full assistance of the AFL with over-exposure on FTA and loaded fixtures to the detriment of the other clubs in the competition.

They feed off each other. The rich get richer and the MFC sinks.

Sorry, I'm bleating again.

One question. Does "Sydney’s western suburbs" mean games at Homebush or are they referring to the true Western suburbs, Parramatta etc? Where would they actually play?

I consider it a smartarse move and not a smart move at all. It's typical of the arrogance of Collingwood and McChins. It's bad enough that they have the easiest draw in the competition already (and then idiots like Old Xaverian whinge that it's not an easy draw when you play only 4 interstate games a season) but now he effectively wants 16 home games in Victoria and 6 away games in Queensland/or Sydney for which they would be handsomely compensated and never have the away disadvantage ever. That way they would never play in SA, WA or at Skilled Stadium. They might as well get two steak knives as well as the title to Sydney Harbour Bridge!

Well said. I respect Eddy for giving us the home game during Queens Birthday and he was a good host on The Footy Show but he is a tool. Let's be honest!

It would be a massive coup for them if it came to be but the draw is already seriously comprimised so I don't see it happening. nor do I take it seriously and i don't think it will bring any pressure on the Roos. The Roos should look at a similar offer, all home games at Carrara and away games at the 'G'

Smart? Yes. Fair? Not even close.

I would be very disappointed if the AFL agreed to such a deal. We all know the draw is questionable, but this is taking it to a whole new level.

We are seeking no compensation, be it draft concessions or money.

That said, the interest & publicity that a Collingwood would generate in 6 games would be far and away greater than any club could generate on the GC, even it was based there permantely.

The AFL has said it is open to the deal Collingwood put forward.

What are you still doing here?

Seriously, trolling has got to be hard on the self-esteem. Can't do it myself, I'd hate myself too much.

Pfft the AFL has a hard enough time jutifying the unbalanced draw they give Collingwood every year, this would take it to a match fixing level.

No away games at Adelaide or Perth is ridiculous and it takes out the whole idea of competition, it's all well and good to perform on your own turf but if you can't back it up away then your nothing but pretenders. Melbourne is sill learning that hard lesson.

The fact that the AFL is considering this proposal is an indictment on the game.

One things for sure, you can loath and despise their arrogance, but you gotta admire their ability to come up with these ideas.
