Now that NAB cup fixture is something to get bloody [censored] off about. I know it means bugger all on-field, but what it can do is sell memberships. What do we get? The reigning bloody premiers in the first week AT their tip of a home ground. Then, in the unbelievably unlikely case that we actually beat Geelong, we have to play at Manuka; the only game that isn't at Telstra Dome in the second week. That is totally infuriating.

I think this is a plus, a chance to kickstart our campaign. The reigning premiers barely ever take the NAB cup seriously and the Cats may take the same tact.

Also, I bet we would be using the NAB cup to show off our young talent like Newton, Bate, Jones, Petterd etc and would go in at probably 80-90% of our best side available. Will be an interesting one!

I can see that aspect, Worshipper. If we do manage to win, against all odds, it will be a MASSIVE shot in the arm. The problem is that us beating Geelong is so disgustingly unlikely. More likely, at Scum Stadium, we will get belted and all those yes-no-maybe supporters will be totally disillusioned with the team (as if they weren't already). I would rather play a half-way decent team, whom the beating of would not be as watershed, but at least we would have a chance of beating them.

We have 1 night game.

Cartlon have lucked in with 9 night games. Wonder why.

Happy with it to be honest.

Hate the lack of Saturday games, but other than that...

Five of the last 6 at the MCG.

No back to back interstate trips.

Why do we get better draws after we have crap years and worse draws after we make the finals?

Play Twice:

Geelong

Kangaroos

Hawthorn

-----------

Fremantle

Brisbane

WB

Richmond

Interstate:

Rd 4 - Roos @ Carrara

Rd 6 - Brisbane @ GABBA

Rd 8 - Adelaide @ AAMI

Rd 13 - Sydney @ Manuka

Rd 16 - Freo @ Subi

Rd 21 - Port @ AAMI

Seems more even, and no back-to-back!

Maybe we can be happy with 12 games at the MCG. No home game at Telstra Dome is also a positive.

Just one of our first 6 games on free to air TV. 12 Foxtel games for the season all up. All six of our interstate matches are Foxtel games, denying supporters without pay tv the chance to watch the game at home.

But to have just one night match for the entire season. Then there's the 15 Sunday games - well good luck to the club trying to get people there with so many Sunday matches. Our 2007 form didnt help our cause, but we've been dudded by the AFL with this schedule. Wonder what the club line will be on this?

The club has been trying to make Sunday matches it's 'own', I believe. Or at least that was the line last year. I'm disappointed by the lack of night matches, but I'm not really upset with that fixture. Just the sodding NAB cup.

I just love the Collingwood plays at Subiaco in round 22, while we will be at the MCG.

And they play Friday night in Rd 22.

We play Sunday. We might meet them in a final where we have a 6 day break and they get 8. Evens itself out.

I think we have done alright in terms of who we play and where, but the scheduling in terms of the days we play sucks.

Posted this on the "AFL insults" thread.

I thought i'd break down the grounds we're playing at, from that point of view it's pretty good IMO.

MCG: 12 games

TD: 3 games (no home)

AAMI: 2 games

GABBA: 1

Manuka: 1 (home)

Gold Coast: 1 (v Kangas)

Skilled Stadium: 2 (1 NAB)

SUBI: 1 (v Freo)

Days, not so good.

Friday: 1 (only night game)

Saturday: 5

Sunday: 15

Monday: 1

Plus i'm glad we'll finally get to play the Lions at the G!

For Qld Demons it is pretty good - since we are celebrating our 10th birthday we get two visits from our boys next year.

Alas both are within the same month and not a bit more spaced out however both are day games which is excellent.

Better crowds and better attendance at the functions.

Boy am I going to be flat out in April!!!!!

Saturday: 5

Thanks for the breakdown.

Need to come up with 5 original excuses to get time off work... thankfully I have a few months yet to come up with sneaky yet believable reasons as to why I just have to get those specific Saturdays off.

We better win those games! :P

Selfishly i am delighted with two qld trips.

All in all, i am pretty happy with the draw. Not too much travelling late in the season. Cant wait

I am not 100% sure, but last time when we played Adelaide h ere and then Brissie later in the year, we got both included so here's hoping that will happen again. Mind you, I bought a ticket at the Gabba last time as the seats allocated are total crap and we got a spot on the wing and undercover. It was great.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
