Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Newton is good

I agree with him; Newton is very very good at kicking footballs and marking footballs and playing football on a football oval. I believe if I was playing a game of football, and Newton was on the other team and I was playing on Newton, then Newton would probably kick alot of goals on me because he is very very good at football.

Yeah he's not bad

but for a person standing at someone roughly 190cm, HE NEED TO LAND IN HIS HANDS!!!

Cant mark for shiezen

Please make reference to 2007 Mark of the Year.

Point proved.

Newton will certainly be a valuable player for us for many years IMO .

He has had a poor year because of injury and suspension - obviously being unable therefore to gain momentum .

There are , however ,giant upsides to the guy who is extremely young and inexperienced in football terms . He is very tall and extremely agile for his size; very smart ( albeit lazy ) on the field ; a huge , and usually accurate kick ;and with a body that is ripe for developing over the summer .

You don't give up on players of his size when there is so much to gain with patience !

i read somewhere he has played like 14 AFL games which is as much as Morton?

Is that correct?

yes 14 games. he is in his second year of afl, but has been on the list for 4 i believe. he has kicked 20 goals in his 14 games, average 4 marks, 10 possessions and 1.5 tackles.

if you dont think those stats are pretty reasonable for a 21 year with 14 games to his name and a lot of development to do, then go to footywire.com and compare his career stats to the career stats of david neitz...

yes he needs to work a bit more. he needs to make sure he holds all those marks. but i think people have been very harsh on a young player who is still learning the game. give him time. i think he will prove his worth, but given the position he plays, his body size etc, he deserves another year or two on the list imo

There is one thing that I will point out that he needs to work on and that is his balance, if you watch videos of him playing late in the season, he goes to ground too often gor my liking and to fix this he needs to work not only on his strength, but also his positioning to enable him to be in the best position to take the mark or gather the spill.

He can't always take the screamer and as much as we would love him to, because who doesn't like a spekky, he needs to work on this aspect of his game

Otherwise Juice for GOD.. Fast becoming a fav player....

While I was correct way back then.. It is becoming obvious that not only does he go to ground very easily in a contest, but he also goes to ground when under little pressure as well..

Beyond one mark and a couple of goals, he must be being "good" when im not watching.

Much work to do to earn a consistent spot at AFL levels. I agree he has the body and maybe the agility to get there but his ethic seems lacking.

When he is drawing the comments from commentators similar to what he was getting on MMM last sunday, he is not yet "good".

i dont question his potential, he has the attributes to be a very handy player in the forward line.

The only question is his desire to be a better than handy player, to get better and work on his flaws.

Seriously, you're not trying to compare him to David Neitz are you? One difference, Neitz was a gun as a junior. Second difference, I don't remember Neitz ever having short arms or going to ground as easy as Newton does!

Stats don't lie.

One thing you cannot compare is Neitz started off at CHB or the backline, so goals are somewhat out of the equation.

look i know he couldnt tie neita's bootlaces, however, i think the point is valid. everyone keeps saying 'newton doesnt tackle enough'. 'newton doesnt take enough marks' 'newton doesnt kick enough goals' etc. but in reality given the position he is playing he is doing reasonably well, especially for a 14 gamer.

he needs to learn. he needs to improve a lot. he has a lot of things to work on. but he has shown, to me anyway, that in a team devoid of tall forwards, he is capable of kicking a goal or too. and for me thats enough to persist with.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
