Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Whitnall to Melbourne???

BTW, I reckon Frawley is designed for FB rather than CHB.

Agreed.

I'd take him.

Screw the under 23 policy.

He's costing us nothing and he is a class act.

But no, the recruting department will probably take a punt in the PSD on a 20 year old with 3 games experience in SANFL reserves and hope for a miracle.

What's the point in taking him? We're not going to win a flag in the next couple of years.

Assuming Whitnall played well and increased the success of our team - and that's not a given by any stretch - he'd just be robbing youngsters of a game, and us of better draft picks.

So, the fact that we're not in a premiership window means that winning game of footy are irrelevent.

I don't know about you, but I prefer to win games of footy and an 80% fit Whitnall will assist us. Isn't that why AFL footy clubs exist for (unless your Carlton circa 2007)

With "Long John" Whitnall at CHB?

He was certainly a strong impetus as Captain of Carlton in 2007. Tanks for the contribution Lance.

I am sure Rogue can answer for himself but the inference if we are not in a premiership window (and by your admission we are not) then we should recruit a crippled 28yo. In addition I would add why retain a 28yo talented lazy underperforming footballer as well. And you would prefer to "win" games?

Any player you add to your list is an investment. It isn't a given that Whitnall will play good football for us, and help us succeed - there's risk involved.

Assuming he is able to play AFL football to a decent standard, for how long? At what cost to the development of other players? What about the risk/reward of Whitnall compared to the risk/reward of a younger player who has a career ahead of him (as opposed to Whitnall)?

If successful, and that's in no way a given, Whitnall will give you a couple of years at best. No thanks.

if his body was in good shape i would have a look at him, but his body just doesnt hold up, although he has a great football brain, he just cant get out on the park enough to justify drafting him. We'd at least want 16 games out of him and i doubt that would happen

not even if his body was in the best shape it has ever been in. it would go against the new under 23 poicy

I'm with Rogue......no thanks.

I want Lance but only as a Forward.

Plus since they just got rid of Ryan yesterday most recent player to me it looks like we are making room for Lance.

I don't think they were ever going to get rid of Ryan but because Lance became available they had to get rid of someone.

The good thing with having Lance, Miller and Holland is Miller and Holland can go back and make Lance a full time Forward.

Miller really needs to kick lots of Goals next year he never kicks a bag.

But who knows?

We'll need to get rid of lots more players to fit Lance down at the Junction Oval...

Thank you thank you, I'm here all week ;)

Whitnall and TJ:

Occasional flashes of brilliance, with not much in between.

Maybe years of mediocrity have whittled down our attention spans. We just want those few snippets of class to curl up with at night, rather than embracing the slog it takes to win a premiership.

Any thoughts that Lance Whitnall will help us win a premiership are delusional to say the absolute least. Wake up.

Agree. A great talent early. Now 28 after years of being overweight and unfit. His manager said his knee is " bone on bone" and he has obviously as a result been " boned " by the Blues.

Hi fellas,

Lance Whitnall is considering entering the pre- season draft after just being sacked by the blues. He is 192 cm, 100kg (give or take 20!), a former all Australian and turned 28 years of age in August this year.

In outlining the following pros and cons, could we use him?

1) We now have an under 23 policy

2) He has leadership potential

3) We need big bodies down the spine (back and forward)

4) He could provide an on field mentoring role for the likes of Newton if Neitzy finishes soon.

What pick do we have in the pres season draft?

Given that I doubt there will be a rush of clubs for him, would he be a handy pickup for say two years on a fairly moderate package?

Didn't we pursue him last year?

I would be interested in peoples thoughts and some constructive debate.

He's finished and he's a dud ! Forget it

The problem with this is that Ricky Nixon has publicly stated that Whitnall can only conceivably play in one position if he wants to continue on a list next season, due to the problems he has had with his ravaged knee(s), and that position is at full forward, where speed and mobility are not necessarily the greatest commodities.

Now we already have a full forward with his very own set of injury problems, and I hope no-one sees Neitz being replaced in the side by Whitnall. I can understand what limited appeal Whitnall may hold, just, and I really do hate the way Carlton have handled him in the last week or so, but the answer is still no, sorry.

He is finished as a footballer and has always had a questionable output. Do we need another underachiever on our list?

And this is a definite concern especially given where this list seems to be being taken, so despite his "footy smarts" the easy answer to that is no :P !!!

Oh my god, i cant beleive it would even be a thought. Whitnall was gone 5 years ago, the game has long past him by. If we were to pick him up, i would THROW UP!!!!!

I think Brennan is also a risk for alot of money. Does the word potential not mean anything to the MFC. TJ had it in spades, did not deliver, Sylvia has it, but is treading water, Mclean has slowed down, Miller just does not have it, Brennan would be a risk, in saying that, he may be the Best available. Tough call..

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
