most afl clubs have 4 ruckman on their list.

if we let PJ go, we'd have to use a draft pick to get another one anyways...especially considering that Meeson still has some more developing to go before he will play seniors.

PJ should be kept, and he deserves a spot. he didnt set the world on fire, but improved consistently this season. i can see him becoming a good back up ruck.

maybe he can be developed into Holland's current role?

i cant believe how some people are so keen on a guy we have never seen and has never played a game before!Jamar isn't that old and had a poor form slump at the start of the year but will improve again this year! White had a shocking year to dont forget but he is excused for some reason and i dont think will be used in the same way under dean bailey!

For mine Johnson is not a ruckman. More a Q Lynch forward type, tall, athletic, good skills, needs to work on marking. Should be kept.

Which leaves us with a Ruck division of 3 if we get Meeson including the 31 year old White. Jamar is big and strong, gets his hands to alot of marking chances - needs to hold more and has decent skills. Once again I feel that having had Followers Stynes and White as our Number 1 ruck for 20 years we've become used to having tall midfielders as our Nm 1 Ruck.

I can't believe the crap going on about keeping Jamar!

Give me Jamar over the two duds that lined up for the Pies in the Prelim.....Bryan and Richards anyday!!!

So he isn't setting the world on fire like a Dean Cox or Hamish McIntosh, Jamar still has a lot of upside, and I'm glad we are hanging onto him, and will continue to try and develop him!

Would you rather we had the dominant ruck force from the Blues........Cain Ackland, and Cameron Cloke ??????

I like the Big Russian when he takes those strong marks inside 50.

HOWEVER. I hate him!!!!

It's not even his fault he just shits me, whenever im playing AFL on sony he is 76 overall for god sake, he is to bloody good, I want to leave Jeff White in but by season 2 Jamar is better.

I know this is no fault of his and I try not to blame him, but everytime I think of him I think BASTARD.

as long as he gets paid per possession.

Nice.

I rate Laycock and to a lesser extent Hille but when they plays 2nd fiddle, they are terrible. Given the run, Laycock rises up to the occasion.

So if we do sign Donuts for another 2 years, [censored] both Jamar and Meesan preseason and tell them who ever wins, first ruck will be theirs round 1.

PJ and White should play a different role in the 22.

So do I. The trouble I have though is deciding which of the half dozen he has taken is my favourite.

Jamar has taken some exteremly strong contested marks inside 50. especially in the 2006 season. if we conditioned him well he has potential to a very good player. we need to keep johnson and jamar because white probably only has one season left in him.

Johnson > Daylight > Jamar.

Agree completely.

Either way neither desevre to be our second ruckman, but we shouldn't offload one of them till we find an improvement.

Bailey > You

If Bailey wants him to stay, I trust Bailey.

White has one, maybe two years left. If we're going to throw away all the ruckmen we have in hope of picking up another Jeff White between now and when White hangs up the boots, we'll be left with no ruckmen at all.

With Neaves gone, we are now left with 2 back-ups plus Meesen who may or may not turn out to be capable in the ruck.

I also have a feeling that Bailey may turn PJ into more of a KPP than a ruckman.

At the end of the day, these players are not on huge money. We are not losing a whole lot by keeping them given that they are still young.

As previously stated, you need 4 ruckmen on your list. We'd be playing with fire if we delisted Jamar, and relied on either Meeson or a rookie ruckman to fill the void if White or Johnson were injured.

Also, the trade value of ruckmen can rise dramatically with 1 average/good year, hence they become appealing trade bait. Adelaide and Pt. Adelaide have been stockpiling and trading ruckmen to good effect.

I've got no problem with Bailey at all. However, IMO Jamar should be traded and if not traded then delisted.

Moreover, people can still support the coach while at the same time as questioning the decisions he makes.

EDIT: That last sentence was not just directed at Jaded.

My take on all this ...( and similar ) is bailey obvioiusly has a knack for eeking something out of blokes that wasnt forthcoming previously. This has various degrees of success.

2008 most likely will be a bit of a rebound year, but probably a developmental , weeding out year. its most likely neetas last.. White cant be too far behind. Players like Robbo and Junior will probably only have 2 or there abouts years left. Thats a far chunk of experience to go in a few years. Getting others up to speed and bringing them further along their skills road is going to be the challenge, not only for the coach(s) but for the players themselves.

I only expect Melbourne to be competitive next year. I suspect a remoulding of the team will start. Players like Russian etc may or not come into their own but are obviously insurance.

I agree with Jaded that PJ might/ought be developed more as a KPP.

I suspect one stance taken by the new regime is that only so much can be done/effected each year. Some culling/retirement has already taken place, some trading wil loccur. A different looking Melbourne ( with hints of familiarity ) will take to the field. Things will be trialed.. observations taken.. more changes made etc...end of 2008 more changes etc.. and so it goes on.

You would have to think a couple of players know its now or never.

Obviuosly Bailey sees something we dont. I suppose we wait and watch :)

I think it's a big mistake offering Jamar 2 years.

The guy has one asset, and it's his size, but there is no evidence that he has any idea how to use his size. He makes no impact around the ground. Unless we are looking to give Sandy another good shot at a premiership, he should be offloaded, delisted, or AT WORST given 1 year on minimum wage.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
