Possibly a tad unfortunate for Robbo but this instance to me shows that the club has changed. Last year we would have caved. Things are different. :)

Of course he would say that to a supporter though..

I couldn't imagine him adding fuel to the fire by making comments to supporters about him being unhappy with the club and wanting to get out and etc.

Regardless of whether he wants to stay or not, I don't think he would be silly enough to say anything other than 'Yes I want to stay. I love Melbourne :)' to a fan.

Just my opinion though.

He said "just need to get the contract sorted out which will hopefully be soon and im very keen to stay"

Yeah well, this may well be the case......

But does that mean he is going to fold and take the two years to play for his beloved Dees, or are the club changing their tune, which doesn't look like happening?

Committing to playing for the club you love (and I am not trying to be disrespectful) is easy if you get exactly what you want.

mmm interesting responses.

I can't really say i agree with saying he should be traded, personally i think that's a little harsh.

As much as you say he can be a frustrating player, what about the way he plays when his fully fit?

He would be the most electric forward going around in my view.

As you can imagine players play footy through-out the year injured and that's exactly what russell has been doing for the last two years. Yeah he does have a lot of problems with his knees but in fairness to melbourne especially last year, how can you rest one of your best forwards? His a match winner. I think you have to give him credit for playing as injured as he has been, and from the outside public view, we don't see that.

The only way I can see russell leaving is if he gets traded, he absolutely loves the club. He is probably one of the most passionate guys going around the club.

I can understand with saying get rid of him because of his age but really look at the year he had? kicking 44 goals and he missed what, 6 games and played injured all year? That's a fair achievement. It's all good saying blood the young ones but the young ones aren't going to be the whole difference now, it takes them a few seasons..You need to combine young with old, for the experience especially in big matches. Melbourne aren't stupid too, they need to win games next season to earn respect back from the footy world, sponsors and supporters.

Why not keep russell while he can still kick goals and have him there to keep helping the young guys out in the forward line, they learn from players like him. Ask any young guy who plays in the forward line and they will tell you how good it is having russell there as well as neitz. Neitz and Robertson admit too they work better together.

Maybe there just saying that, but seriously of course we are going to be more successful having two key forwards then just one. And with the injuries neitz has had and his age you can't be expecting him to play every game next season..so if you get rid of Robertson and neitz is injured? There goes our two best forwards.

Hopefully we can get something good for the guy. I've decided that our future is bleak if we sign him to anything more than 2 years and we don't get something decent, like a 8-15 pick, for the guy.

Spot on.

If Robbo leaves, we may have the most impotent forward line in the AFL, if Neitz has another injury riddled year!

Does anyone remember rounds 3-5 this year we're we had to rely on Miller and Green to be our major goal kickers. Not surprisingly we were getting belted by 8 goals a game and averaging just 10 goals a game.

Some of the "Lets trade Robbo" people need to realise that we're losing a 50-60 goal per year foward.

but in all fairness to that we Didnt have juice on the park..and now Bater is settling into the roving CHF role. Robbo only really contributed in a major way on a couple of days when playing absolute crap !!

essentially Robbo is good to keep...not end of world if leaves.

yeah but we can't be relying just on the young guys as well.

think about how better our forward line would be if we have robertson. neitz, newton, bate, davey, and who ever else bailey wants to throw in there.

i think it looks far better with robertson...It has more structure in it, just my opinion but I think newton needs them both there..He hasn't become a lance franklin yet and he won't just turn into one over night.

I missed this before, but it's absolutely correct - it's like giving to the charity that researches into the chronic disease you're afflicted by. Sure, it's still a good thing, but everything's relative.

Didn't hear the interview but Robbo's grim face and general demeanour on Brownlow night said it all.

He's been told two things.

Here's the contract...take it or leave it; you're expendable in light of regenerating the playing list.

Secondly, we'll trade you in a moment if one of various deals come to fruition.

That's footy, especially if this club is serious about success.

Robbo's a club favourite but sentiment only carries you so far.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
