Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Trading Robbo?

Lets have a quick review of our key position players in the forward line.

1. Neitz: was broken down all of 2007 and has not played good consistent football for a good few years now. It is possible (if not likely) that Neitz is past his best and wont be contributing to the forward set up like he has in the past.

2. Newton: Could become a very important player but is still young and raw (and known to be mentally erratic).

3. Dunn: does not look capable of holding down a key position spot. as bailey apparently touted in his interview, dunn will probably move into the midfield next year, maybe even as a tagger.

4. Miller: completely ineffective disposal. Does not take pack marks. (IMHO should be traded or delisted)

Apart from Robbo, thats it (and dont give me Jamar or Johnson as a consistent reliable forward target!!!)

Point being, why the hell are we looking to trade robbo???? he is our most promising forward target for the upcoming season by quite a long way. no point having judd in the side if you have no targets up forward for him to kick to......

I think it would be a grave mistake to get rid of robbo (or let him go, whatever the case maybe).

While I agree with your sentiments, and while I think we'll struggle up forward next year, Robbo is as good as gone.

I never thought I'd see Robbo playing for another club, but let's make one thing clear, we are not getting rid of him, he is choosing to leave for a better contract. If he agreed to 2 years, he'd be at Melbourne next year.

We are the Melbourne Football Club, not the "Charity Case Football Club". Seriously, it's time we stopped bending over backwards with our contracts, especially for our older players.

Even Nathan Jones only got 2 years!

If Robbo Leaves our best forward option would be Ben Hollland at full forward, Neitz Forward Pocket. Sylvia CHF. I don't think there is any room for Miller unless Neitz is injured. If we get Judd then i say we should be looking at trading Johnstone for a key forward thats if Robbo goes which i hope he doesn't

good point. losing robbo means benny could play more bit parts up forward. his kicknig still worries me, but if he is the third tall, (neitz and newton) then its not a bad idea...

remembering players like bate, dunn, sylvia will rotate thru the forward line...

If Melbourne lose Robertson, then keeping Davey becomes all the more important.

Depends what we would get for Robertson. If, for instance, we were to trade Robbo for Higgins or Giansiracusa then that becomes less important.

Davey would only go in a trade that involves Judd and IMO is expendable for that purpose, irrespective of what happens with Robbo.

The answer = Ryan Murphy

Are you guys serious?? As much as you you have to admire ben holland for getting the most out of his very limited abilities down back this year, we cannot be a serious contender for the finals with Ben Holland as one of our go to forwards, let alone as a replacement for robbo, who has been our most productive forward in the last 3-4 years.

If we lose robbo we are in a lot of trouble....especially if neitz's body continues to fail him.

Can anyone tell me where this info is coming from on trading Robbo, I am aware about the 3 year thing, is there anything in the papers saying he is pretty much going to leave?

There's nothing definitive as far as I'm aware, but Robbo conceded that he is looking at other offers here:

i think its mostly from robbo. he came and said things like 'the dees have been great but ive been talking to the dogs and they want to offer me a three year deal'. has commented on 'how great a club the bulldogs are' etc. these are not direct quotes, just the sort of thing he has said. we wont offer him 3 years, nor should we imo and he has put his foot in his mouth now. he either backs right down or is gawn...

thanks for that article.

"Being a Melbourne man I would like to stay at the club I have played 11 years at and get the club back into some sort of form," he said.

Lets hope we can work it out. He is a dee through and through and it sounds like he wants to stay.

Crows: 10 + Hudson to Dogs for 5

Dogs: 10 to Demons for Robbo + 21

Dogs get Robbo + Hudson + 21 for 5

If you were Robbo and your blood was red and blue wouldn't you rather play two years at M.F.C than three wasteful years at the Western Bulldogs. Come on Robbo pull your head in and take a two year deal then you can go on veterans list for another 1 if you are up to it!

Maybe he's found some white blood cells in there as well.....

If Robbo is traded and we land Chris Judd, Robbo will be forgotten very quickly

As for our forward line, if Sylvia can finally have a full pre-season he will become one of the most dangersous players in the comp and will be twice as good as Robbo

Sylvia will be a 50 goal a seaon player that can play through the middle as well

Basically, he will be a superstar

Look at this forward line

Judd Newton Bate

Sylvia Neitz Davey

As old Brucey Mac would say, "Clever!"

On the issue at hand, Robbo's stubbornness is the problem here. The club is right to offer him 2 two years, and there is a good chance that we'd keep him on afterwards, but we shouldn't take the risk on a 29 yo who has dogey knees. He's clearly been taking lessons from Biz.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
