GAMEDAY: Rd 05 vs Essendon

Featured Replies

I don't care about Jvrs six goal haul.

Yes sure it was a tremendous start but I'm not sure he's ever going to be the power fwd we all hoped for.

He either steps up now or needs to be dropped. He shows the odd glimpse of complete brilliance but its mainly his mindset.

If we don't get the first Im.ptetty sure it's all over

But what has Fritta done ?

Or Culley,?

Or Brody.

Even Max has taken only one mark.

We were terrible from the get go.

It's painful because Essendon are not a good side and they have destroyed id.

Roo gets dropped for sure.

That six goals went to his head and he fell off the map thereafter.

This is demons of last year 200 %

Can lyon please shut up.

Remember: Give your opposition an inch, they’ll take a yard.

Morale of the story: Don’t give them a sniff.

Please Melbourne if you won't care, I think moving forward let's just forfeit Gather round.

Saves us the travel, and money to our loyal fans.

Embarrassing.

Lot of these blokes drank their own bath water during the week.

I don’t mind losing given where the club is placed, but the effort, output and skills today are horrendous and inexcusable. This really is on par with losing to the ASADA top up side years ago.

Cocky Melbourne supporters never learn.

Players obviously read DL.

Putrid embarrassing effort.

Just about as disappointed I have been in this team in a long time, probably more so because we started a new chapter and looked to have a new mindset. Losing is fine. Losing like this, to them, is not fine.

"It's the hope that kills you"

JVR needs a spell in the twos i think

outside of the first quarter against the saints he's had no impact

At least this team/our performance against a struggling team is familiar.

There's some comfort in that, I guess.

No there isn't. This club has a long history of too often [censored] the bed when we're favorites. It's an above the shoulders cultural thing now.

We've had a consistent penchant for making the worst teams look as if they're likely PF contenders for many decades now far too often.

This was our biggest test for the year so far and we failed to perform.

guilty as charged

Kozzy and Gawns look as Caddy takes what was an uncontested mark in the end should be replayed to Turner, McDonald and Lever all week. Pathetic 1 on 1 today.

Blind freddy knew this side was going to come out this week, we just do this continually its not a one off. Only got the Lions next week.

Worse than anything Giodwin ever presented. King needs to make a statement and drop 6 or 7 next week. Too many players think they are better than what they are play like movie stars but realty put them in a z grade comedy

Spot on.

After beating an actual quality side like Gold Coast.

[censored] Adelaide, seems like the club takes gather round unseriously, a leisure travel.

Oh I agree 100%

Too many melbourne players happy to kick off ground today, whereas Essendon putting head over ball and winning contest.

Been flogged in contest today

No cockyness from us. Essendon is [censored].

We just didn't care to show up.

What a disgrace

We're a frustrating club aint we.
Think I'm gonna go outside and ..... SPEW UP!
Pathetic display.

Good old Sparrow back to his lacklustre self.

Thought he turned a corner like some others

Silly me.

Enjoy the rest of this horrible round where so much important petrol and aviation fuel was used up.

Windsor kicking to a 2 v 1

I can't see the whole ground but no other options to maintain possession and chain the ball forward?

King needs to put his fist through one of those boards. Tholstrup, Turner, McDonald, Lever, Salem, JvR, Langdon, Windsor, Melksham and Mihocek have been gutless

Add Van Rooyen...incompetent

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
