Talking of crowd noise.

There was zilch for GCS in play or after goals at least that is how it seemed from the Southern Stand and their Temu cheer squad was at the city end.

I watched a few minutes of the replay to see how it sounded on tv. The broadcasters are doing thier covid thing of inserting fake crowd cheering/noise.

No wonder they have a poor track record interstate - their is no-one cheering for them and they have to endure the roar of op fans.

It will cost them gains 😁 and yesterday it cost them momentum but not the game!

Conversely rhe crowd noise by dees fans at the ground was incredible given there was only 24k there.

I watched the replay last night and the noise really came accross on the TV, particularly the booing, so much so the commentators mentioned it several times.

On booing i heard a few people around me say they would have booed tracc, which to be honest surprised me a bit (ie the angst towards him). With the mood the crowd was in he may well have copped some serious booing.

And on the Suns crowd, i was sitting in the Olympic stand in an all Melbourne bay. The seats in the bay next to me, normally the seats for the President's lunch, looked like it had all been sold to Sund fans.

The next bay along was all Melbourne reserved.

Means the Suns fans were smack bang in the middle of loud demon fans going off.

Welcome to the G.

If they were lining up for goal at the other end (Ponsford end) and we didn’t see it, we had to watch for their cheer squad’s reaction to know if it went through or not. It was a strange situation because usually we know it’s a goal by the cheering.

Agreed. It was only when their big chequered flag waved that we knew.

Even players weren't weren't very animated. Not a lot of encouragement for each other after the first quarter.

The various AFL media outlets do a great job of astroturfing both of the northern expansion clubs as well. The constant mention of sold out venues for round 0 during broadcasts when anyone with two eyes can see that both their grounds are half empty. There's no way in hell that both have over 30,000 bona fide club members. They must be giving them away with every McDonalds happy meal sold.

I'm going to brag od. I tipped us in the Game Day thread and took a bit of flak for my optimism; all good-naturedly.

But I wasn't optimistic enough predicting a win by only 7 points!

I was close. I predicted an 18pt win, but only coz Melky.

I commented after the StKilda win how impressed I was with Petty in the ruck. Purely from a ball up perspective, he gives us a different look.

What I like even more about the move, is it frees him up to run and jump at marks without the pressure of playing deep forward or in a contested situation down back. He is player who prefers to be 3rd man up and struggles when the ball is dumped on his head.

The other bloke who I am happy for is Howes. Hes always looked talented enough to be an AFL player but it hasn’t always clicked for him. I think the penny has dropped as to how he can impact the play with his positioning and his ability to recover and push the ball forward. Got a lot of deflections yesterday which were very important.

Lastly, Chin. I just love him. I don’t think I’ve wanted good things to happen to a player like I do with Chin since Travis Johnstone was running around. Different reasons for wanting good things; I wanted Trapper to be great because I thought he could be. I want Chinny to be great because he deserves it. Great clubman, great leader and better bloke.

Loved the TV replay cutaways post goal to Melksham, Mihocek & Roo in heavy discussion, seemingly based on forward structure and movement given their hand movements. There's genuine, passionate discussion between Melksham & Mihocek with Roo taking it all in, nodding in acknowledgement.

Can't remember when we had this level of leadership in our forward line. This is so good for Roo's development. As a forward, playing with Kingy's game style must be so much fun.

Living on the Gold Coast my take is Brisbane have a rusted on fan base with regular sell outs at the Gabba. I was at the Gabba Thursday night and whilst not as intense as the G was still raucous. Suns are a different case it pretty laid back without a hard footy culture. Can’t see that changing anytime soon.

the 24k that came out to see us on easter sunday are the hardcore

that's the baseline of our supporter base

and wow do we go off

If we beat Essendon and Lions beat Norf I’m expecting a very good crowd against the Lions. Jim’s game, hopefully good weather, hopefully coming off another win. If that all happens then anything under 45k even maybe 50k would be disappointing imo. No long weekend people are away or with family (Easter) excuse.

If we keep this form up we'll be destined for Thursday and Friday night footy once again after 1 short year absence.

that's extremely unrealistic; our biggest ever crowd vs the lions at the g doesn't even come close to cracking 40k

Round 15, 2022 - Melbourne 16.21 (117) d Brisbane 7.11 (53)
Crowd: 37,728

if we could come close to matching that it would be a good crowd; similar to the season starter against the aints

We need new eye balls on our club sponsorships, new revenue streams etc.

Sunday arvo's won't cut it.

I'm wondering if Oliver and Tracy cramped Sparrow's style. Two of his best games he's ever played. It's made a real difference.

Better game from Roo. Didn't score much.but.marked well.

Salems improved.

Need to work on our accuracy though.

Gcs couldn't miss.

Umps were terrible first 3 quarters not rewarding our tackles with a lot of frees just ignored.

So the winning margin was probably higher than the real one.

Funny how Kp looks for his cousin .

Lever has turned things around.

But the story of the day was a bloke who played his first game in rons and scored the most. Milkshake is still as strong and determined as ever.

Great win to dethrone the top team and put us in sixth spot.

Keep this up and we are definitely playing finals.

I know this is easy to say now but from the go I thought we would win that game. I have to admit Sharp is playing well and Kolt is playing well in a defensive mode. For the life of me I did not see Laurie on the ground and I was looking. It said he had 40% game time.

I was doing doing the same because I had thought he had made a couple of previous attempts, and didn't have my tick, but I was wrong and he did some good things in traffic, looked comfortable and second attempts linking up.

With 80,000 members, attendance figures soaring and sponsors banging the door down.
We're a marketing departments dream right now.

The lid is off!

We're playing finals again!

Suddenly, we've got depth as well ... Fritsch, Bowey, Viney, Rivers, Heath, XT et al to somehow fit into the team

Pre-game I thought we needed GC to be off their game but we beat them fair & square in emphatic fashion

A great win and a great game of footy. Eminently watchable

On the right track but can we chill out over finals talk? People getting ahead of themselves again

This is the first post I’ve seen mentioning finals

The bookies more often than not get it right

We're paying currently $1.57 to make the '10' (that's 4-6 in the old language) Odds-on!!

(By the way, before the start of the season, we were paying $3.75 to make the '10')

But in order to make the finals we're going to have to turn half-way with a decent W/L record. Our run home isn't easy

So we need to win now and build up a bank of wins

But I've seen enough to not bother with the September snow season

Get confident, folks. We're going places

He would have been leading the Brownlow votes now – if it wasn’t for Koz!!

Max has always been able to hit targets on the move – it’s just that our frustrating game plan was following everybody else making it a dour contest in the middle.

Trying to get them to do something different is like pushing [censored] up hill.

Glad King managed it.

He’s very indicative of the two way running and manic tackling this year. It’s been a few years since it’s been this good.

Max's tap work is as good as before, and now we have two new "breaths of fresh air" that read the game outstandingly well to get there.

Great, now 4 posters have said the 'F' word. We won't make finals now because you all said the 'F' word too early.

Thanks a lot. Season ruined.

They were certainly animated towards each other and not in a positive way..

The bastards searched my bag like I just got off a flight from Colombia. They found my smuggled Red Bulls and boy the power trip was real. Good job, chumps. You thwarted a major crime.

I’m just bitter that I had no energy drinks today. But hey, I didn’t need them anyways!

Gotta have a hardy laugh about that, remembering the old days when we took in large cans to stand on.....

Bit of truth in what you're saying as many (most?) footy fans are a superstitious lot!

Me? I believe in talent levels and everything else runs 2nd (however, a good coach can harness talent but and a poor coach can stuff things up)

And we've got plenty of talent and more depth than we thought. All that after 4 games?

It's got everything to do with game style and skills. And you can't fake that and it's not a fluke either

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
