Pumped for Paddy, ticks off some key solutions in Coach King’s cross word this week. Speed, anticipation and opportunism. Kingy of course is not adverse to throwing the opposition a cryptic red herring or two as well.

Regular observers of Casey matches would have noticed Paddy’s pressure acts and defensive efforts in the season opener. Certainly impressed the selection committee. Reckon this young bloke’s a player.

I think that's true. Playing a midfield role and getting possessions looks good but against a losing midfield and you only have one tackle means there is little pressure. Whilst Sparrow doesn'r look as good he had 9 tackles. I'm sure he'll be back and firing.

Couldn't agree more. When you are getting thrashed through the midfield it means you are not applying pressure. Getting lots of possessions looks good, but not when the other side is getting lots more. Windsor, Steele, Picket, Lindsay, Langford, Culley, Lever, Tholstrup all got between 3 and 9 tackles. Salem, Howes, Sharp, Latrelle, JVR, Max and Fritsch were others who never got a tackle and it shows in the result. We can't afford to be labelled as playing bruise free football against the blues again. It took years to live down the last time.

How would Laurie be feeling? 6 years of grind and a new bloke comes in and 3 weeks later is ahead of him

Interesting to see how Rivers handles this. For a guy who started out in defence, he appears unaware how to defend. His disposal and composure under pressure for me is a worry. He should be better than he is.

It is the right call dropping him. Lever and CJ surely on notice. If I was on the list, I would know what is coming if I don’t perform…

Love the new way. We have been screaming for competition for spots.

We live in interesting times.i find it hard to move on from the players who delivered that which I never thought I’d see in 21. I am going with the NQR knee theory for Riv and personally I would have had Lever more at risk.

You'd think either something off-field related, or some kind of on-field non-negotiable that he hasn't met. On the surface it seems a bit harsh, but "speak softly but carry a big stick" comes to mind re King and the coaches. Nice guys. Until they aren't.

Not quite sure what to make of the news here re Rivers' knee. You'd think that the club would have only been to happy to mention it in omitting him (e.g. soreness) - but then again, why select him on Thursday in the first place if it's injury-related?

Presumably we'll get a bit more clarity in time.

Could be something to do with resting but he is listed by the club as Omitted so i’ll assume it’s a player being dropped. Hope he goes to casey and does well

The idea that Riv has been rested rather than dropped on form makes a lot of sense given there’s no Casey game this week.

Different story if he’s still out next week but it just seems unlikely they’d drop a player of his calibre on one poor week with no opportunity to earn his spot back or even just improve himself at Casey.
