Dogs are a similar club to us after 2016 flag drought breaking struggled with success & there were lots of off field issues with players and internal board issues, lost a number of good players, the Bont remained loyal unlike our ex number 5, played finals 3 times only since the flag yet beverage seems to re invent himself, early days but look good

He is a great coach Bevo, this is the 3rd time he has reinvigorated/reinvented this team in 11 years.

The sign of a great mentor.

you can totally understand why they sniffed around oliver a couple of years back and were super keen on petracca

they definitely feel like they're a top line mid short of the better sides

They wanted Trac and Draper but they didn't plan for it or trade for the draft capital needed for Trac.

Draper wanted the Lions and they offered more years and $$$$.

That's the nature of the beast you have to talk to these players a year or 2 out.

Lay the foundations and get your targets like we did with May and Lever.

and, in fairness, as they did with dawson and rankline

add those two to cumming, nibbler, and the hamstrung ah chee as more complimentary than top-liners and they've recruited well to bring sa talent home, but the latter three are not topliners

If it's a choice between less free kicks (consistently officiated within a game) VS over officiating and enforcing all of the rules to the letter of the law, I'll take the former. There's players that basically dive every game, players push each other 80 meters off the ball with no effect on the game and frees are paid, center bounce like i mentioned, 50 meters every game for players running over the mark by a foot/stand rule etc. etc.

The game isn't better by having more 'you slightly went over a line and it's a free' rules. Some games feel too sterile to enjoy IMO.

The AFL lives in the grey. Easier to manipulate then explain away.

Just as a side note, incredibly lacklustre crowd at the 'G for Richmond vs. Suns.

Would be lucky to have more than 13,000 in the house right now.

Severe reality adjustment for some Suns no doubt.

Wow those amazing Tigers fans huh?

Would have been 70K at the G just 6 years ago

10.5k at North Hobart Oval (full house) saw the Devils knock off Coburg in their first VFL game. Rubbish effort at the G for sure.

FFS, Christian is injured on the bench, why aren’t the President, Coach, the Board and every player with him?!

"Because it wasn't knee-ded"...

Gee 3 hamstrings today.

Gee Lalor is going to be a gun for the tigs. He is a great size & uses the ball well.

Just wish dwayne would stop calling him dusty Lalor. Just call him sam

Mate.. was going to say the same thing re Dwayne calling him that.

On another note, have they provided the attendance number to the game?

I will never cheer injuries or wish ill will on players, but I can honestly say I feel kinda chuffed seeing him on the bench all iced up.

All feelings I have for the bloke is completely dead that any ounce of sympathy I may have had is reduced down to a complete zero.

Hopefully it is a lengthy time off.

He never had soft tissue issues with us. From memory he had an ACL, cracked toe, a broken leg which he played through and the infamous Darcy Moore incident. He was very durable over a decade.

Just goes to show trading multiple first rounders for a 30 year old is risky no matter how good he is.

That being said, plenty of time for Suns to reap the benefits of the trade.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
