NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

nothing in that first quarter has me too worried about facing the saints next week.

Bad start for Flanders, you'd want your new no 1 mid to be making an immediate impact

No Flanders will be a better bullet dodge than missing out on Houston

Flanders [censored] himself in that defensive inside 50.. eek.

One thing I have learnt so far watching this game is applying huge amount of pressure to the saints and they crumble easily.

The AFL have had a crack at changing everything except the mediocrity of the old commentary blokes...same old same old

Another awful free favouring the Saints

mute button. works a treat

Saints keep drafting and trading for key position players but they have no solid mids or many that can kick straight

They could use a player like Steele

Reminder that the Pies gave pick 8 and a second rounder for Schulz.

hilarious

All of those deals will come back to haunt them.

Maybe we can finally use AI for good – train it on some old classic commentary from the 70s 80s 90s. I wouldn’t use anything later than Dennis Cometti and Bruce.

This is such a weird game to watch. Can’t put my finger on it. Both sides look poor and good at the same time.

Messy game, but with good pressure. It’s a grind but there’s intensity to it

Darcy Wilson such a weird player

Capable of special stuff, then some equally as awful passages of play

Bit Hunt-esque

People trying to put NMW in the same class as Nick Daicos are delusional. He is a very good footballer who has had 1 great season, but the commentator drooling is already tiresome.

And the first big stupid outlandish statement by a commentator is now a matter of public record "Darcy Cameron is the best ruckman in the AFL for dropping back and defensive contested marking". Yeah right, Max says hello.

Cameron was a pretty clear #1 for intercept marks amongst rucks last year. Not everyone is out to get us

Jesus.

What don't you understand what happened over the last 3 years?
Do you know what happened or did you just learn it from Media Outlets?

Players we recruited from Footscray were sacked from Footscray for a reason... They were old mates with Clarry

You think Goodwin was hard done by, and should still be Coaching the Team?

Nick Daicos is unbelievably good

His awareness and skills are unmatched

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
