Tommy Matthews on the bench 🔥🔥🔥

Tom Stewart had a Lisfranc in mid August 2021, recovered in 3 months , did a full preseason and played every game he wasn’t suspended for in 2022 and was All Australian.

There’s no reason Bowser with an early December lisfranc can’t be back training in April, ready to go in May if not June and play half the season. Good for half the season.

Thats not optimism, thats a realistic injury time line.

Not all Lisfranc injuries are equal. None are great. They range from a minor injury to the ligament that will heal in 6 weeks and allow full return in 12 weeks. Others involve multiple ligament tears +/- bony avulsion/fracture requiring a complete rebuild of the foot and completely shagging the mid foot stability and shagging ability to take off to sprint/jump etc.

No one has any idea here in supportville of how bad either of those injuries actually were

Too early to say. In any case, the club has an obligation to leave no stone unturned in trying to maximise their return and make an AFL player out of him. Blake Howes had decent raps on him as a draftee, but it's only now in his 5th season that he seems to be about to cement a place. Some players take time.

Damn it. Kolt played well last week. Some great marks, and THAT GOAL

I think Jefferson might have sustained this injury at training a few weeks ago. I reported him coming off the track, got checked by the medicos and came straight back on.

Not really similar cases considering, as you say, Stewart did a full pre-season. Bowey’s not going to have that behind him, he hasn’t even run since early December so don’t expect him to come back being his best

Of course he won’t be back at his best, at least not right away. But there’s so much time for him to build his running, do a simulated preseason, have a couple of Casey hit outs and play 10-12 games.

Max2 only an emergency? Surprised.

Chin up, young fella.

Pre-construction the ground only held 10k (mostly standing). During construction perhaps 5k at most is my guess.

Strange place to have a match but I suspect there's an agenda.

I would have preferred Wangaratta, Albury or Mildura (maybe too hot) as a venue for promoting football.

Looks like there’s still going to be a few good spots if you get there early.

See you at the back of the new extension.

Might need to bring your hardhat, and nail gun.

Lucky we got the ground for the Friday game – could be a bit dodgy by Sunday if there’s going to be a bit of rain. Probably still not as bad as that [censored] in Sydney though.

My rolling 23 was 22-23 knew I should’ve had Luker over Moose just thought maybe moose was so good he forced his way in but in hindsight of course Luker is the man he kicked 3 looked good and it’s a 80% fwd role rather than ruck so makes sense — so wrapped with this side even Matthews talent and glimpses LW being rewarded.. can’t wait

Howes inc

Jeffo out (sadly)

Melky not ready

Salem done enough

Moose rewarded

But but the weather is always great up there, must have been outside of Sydney.

And if so why wasn't he sent for scans STRAIGHT AWAY??

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! And terrible timing as well!

Good luck to Luker and IMO MOOSE HEATH VERY stiff to not get a game

Also Tommygun Mathews! well done son!

Moose needs a quarter or 2 if he is going to play in round 1 ... there again, Kentfield could be earmarked as Gawn's back-up

Nice to have a bit of competition within the ranks, all the same. Bringing Mihocek in smartens the others up

Against the Saints in round one it will be Moose or Kentfield but not both? (If Checkers & JVR are good to go)

I don't think the AAMI Community Series was ever billed to be a 'regional' series.

It's a practice match and it sold out a 10,000 capacity stadium that hosts home and away season games. That's great news.

But is it 10,000 capacity?

I seem to remember reading that it was around half that due to upgrade works and the AFL either didn’t find out about it, or more likely, didn’t care.

Something in bowser’s favour is he isn’t a big guy, notice bigger players take longer to recover from these sort of stress injuries

Hey guys,

Would any one happen to have 2 spare tickets for tomorrow? Blase about the ticket side of things, I'd never of thought it would be a sell out.

probably because our medicos hadn’t consulted with the Richmond doctor by that time.

That is fine but the player concerned has been at the club two years and in that time has shown little IMO. If he turns into a good half back I will be very happy in fact if he turns into any sort of good player in any position I will be happy. But right now I don't see it.

He's 20 years old and has played 19 games.

Jon Ralph just mentioned Jefferson will potentially be on the sidelines for a 'couple of months'.

Kentfield debut loading...

Perhaps. But everything has to go right - tricky injury.

So we're going with just the 2 KPF's (Kentfield & JVR) against the Tiges

With 1 of the 2 (probably Luker) expected to be the back-up ruckman

With Max to rest forward so as to maintain 2 bigs up forward? If not, JVR will be the lone KPF

It's all pointing to a more mobile forward line

For round one in the serious stuff, Moose can come into the team if Mihocek doesn't present fit (2 KF's & 2 Ruckmen)

I expect Petty to play up forward with Miocek and Jefferson out.

Possible line up:

B: Lever, McDonald, Salem

HB: Jiath, Turner, Tholstrup

C: Langford, Steele, Lindsay

HF: Chandler, van Rooyen, L.Pickett

F: Fritsch, Petty, Kentfield

FOLL: Gawn, Rivers, K.Pickett

IC: Langdon, Sparrow, Windsor, Howes, Laurie, Sharp, Taylor, Matthews

For round 1 I expect Miocek to come back in and Laurie, Sharp, Taylor and Matthews to be emergencies. I expect they will take a cautious approach with Culley who hasn't played a preseason match.

My Casey team would be:

B: Bergman, Adams, W.Lual

HB: Taylor, Berry, Bonner

C: L.Lual, Onley, Culley

HF: Mentha, Melksham, Matthews

F: Cross, Ah Mu, La Planche

FOLL: Heath, Laurie, Sharp

IC: Henderson, McAdam, Moniz-Wakefield, D'Angelo, Sinnema

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
