Whenever I hear that music (Fleur de Lis…edit: Für Elise), I feel like I’ve been put on hold!

No, I always think of some version of this for hold music. 🤣

I love Jake Bowey and he is certainly a very important part of our defence, but if one injury is the difference between premiership chance and also ran then the list is cr@p

Petty 2021 grasped the opportunity and earned a medallion when the in form Tomlinson did his knee - hopefully someone will seize the opportunity and make Jake earn his recall. I seem to remember when Tommo went down there were soothsayers who wrote off our season.

Naysayers or not every team would have a tipping point with injuries where they can no longer win the flag, make the finals etc. Just about the best (and worst) part of following sports are the surprises. Maybe someone steps up and our backline turns out to be as good or better than the one of recent years. I suspect we'll almost cover Bowey. And what ups and downs! Was he 17-nil and a premiership medallion to start? Certainly he and the team have had misfortune and big challenges since. Question.... are there specific players who after having the same injury ended up playing as well or better after?

Yes I think so, but considering the invective on the site I sometimes wonder… Gen X, just the latest bunch of Peter Pan wannabes…

Not to take anything away from the poor lads devastating injury ( wishing you a full and speedy recovery Jake ) but sweet lady irony throws up curious opportunities.

Bowey got his chance because ........ someone else was injured.

Someone else will get theirs now.

If there's a silver lining.... that's it.

Happenstance can be a cruel playwright .

What’s the rule with players on the long term injury list who get replaced? Are they allowed to return if they recover early or do they have to sit out for the rest of the season?

If it’s the latter, you would expect that a decision might be deferred until the midseason draft at the end of May.

The first time I read this post I genuinely misinterpreted it to mean something about an expectation that our full back would be retiring midseason next year.

True but a big blow for Jake after getting injured in rd 0 v Sydney a few years ago Took him a long time to get going after that

Not for a moment suggesting otherwise but just stepping back and considering, indeed only what the club is forced to evaluate...a replacement. We have some. That's all

Topical question: Will under 16s be allowed to access Demonland under the new Federal laws banning access to social media which come into force tomorrow?

The answer is in the question possibly 🤔

Whole things a trojan horse imho.... but hey

Yes, but they will have to make a special deal before being given access.

On the topic of Bowey's injury - at least we still have TMac in the team. In 2022, TMac suffered a lisfranc injury and rehabbed quite well (even if his ability to jump etc as a forward was never the same). Hopefully he'll be able to provide quidance to Bowey about recovery.

Certainly was! We had one of those new fangled food trucks and everything... over a decade ago eek

Edit: saw on the thread that WCW was 29... imagine she's not changed much aside from becoming a ghost 😁

Another great reporting day down at Gosh’s yesterday unfortunately overshadowed by Jake Bowey’s serious injury news, but bolstered by a number of new contributors so big thanks to -

Ghostwriter, Harvey Wallbanger, Demonland, old55, Melbournepotter, Beelzebub, Hellfire Dub, Melborn4vr, all posters and special comments and as mentioned on the thread every injury creates an opportunity for another player to step up, Petty replaced Tomlinson, Bowey replaced Hunt in our Premiership year. Who steps up for Bowsa?

I have this as a round 1 back 8

B: Moniz-Wakefield, May, Petty

HB: Salem, Lever, Jiath

Rotations: Howes, Turner

Can't disagree with that back line.

I know May isn't there to replace Bowey, but it probably increases his chances of early round selection.

And speaking of May, is there a chance he could take the smaller forward and leave Turner, T Mac or Petty for the big boys?

I can recall that May split the points with Jamie Elliott in round 24 despite the former being woefully out of form and the latter about to absolutely explode in the finals. May really struggled against the likes of Ben King, Mitch Geogiardis and Jack Gunston this year, so perhaps he could be re-tooled onto the smaller defender with McVee gone and Bowey out for ages.

As if we'd play AMW off a knee over a highly touted top 10* pick

Way too tall imo, would only play one of may or Petty, I’d pick petty over may comfortably
