I don't begrudge Zanker leaving. She has given us great service over many years and has stated she loves the club. Has been a joy to watch.

Plus she ran through Birch and let her know about it in the prelim. Legend.

We should have got more at the trade table for her but that's on the club.

I know we shouldn't tie it together but geez I feel like we'll miss Mick in many aspects including trades and attracting talent

I’m currently walking down Flinders Lane with Edo and Nikita on the way to the B&F and I’m even sadder now 😕

Focus on your next mission is to sweet talk Molly into inking a long term deal. Go get her Ghosty.

Enjoy the night and all the good eggs that are sticking fat with us

I don't like this. Also it annoys me that it went down on a Sunday when I actually had stuff to do rather than during the working week! Not cool.

In my grand tradition of distancing myself from players I love that leave us: Guess which now-former player leads the team in all-time Free Kicks Against? 😆 Will ignore all other stats.

I will say I am slightly impressed that she managed to keep this from @Ghostwriter as we all know Eden doesn't have the best poker face! I'd convinced myself that she was going to go to Geelong and all her "Don't believe the media stuff" was about the location not the reality of the trade! All good though, Ghosty. Enjoy tonight and bring back the goss!

But seriously, I hope we have something up our sleeve to trade up a bit further. Because that deal ain't it.

What a horrible deal for the best young key fwd on the comp. she’ll be the all time W goal kicker soon enough

Why is she leaving?

2 top ten picks should have been the minimum

Clearly Judd and Lily orchestrated this at least 12 months ago

loyal high quality people

There are only 2 AFLW players that can be paid at the Level 1 Salary Band and that is Kate Hore and Tyla Hanks for Melbourne. Eden Zanker will be a Level 1 Salary Band at Fremantle. I went this evening at the Best and Fairest Count.

Old mate is sure putting a lot on the line for a boyfriend - she’s moving across the country, changed clubs and I’m assuming completely disrupted any non-footy stuff she has going on. Talk about going all-in

So leaving for the money. that’s what i figured

i guess all the gun players at North just want to win

Gold Coast now plans to send Pick 14 from the Anne Hatchard deal and a future second to Melbourne for Picks 17 and 27.

Therefore, we will have picks 9 from Fremantle and 14 from Gold Coast for the first round in the AFLW draft.

Correct, North Melbourne just want to win. Eden is leaving for the money. Eden's partner Nikita looked very happy at the Best and Fairest Count this evening.

And get a free Mazda.

AFLW need to get serious and make these car arrangements included in their salary cap.

B: Taylor, Gillard

HB: Goldrick, Lampard, Chaplin

C: McNamara, Purcell, B.Mackin

HF: Fitzsimon, Harris, Wotherspoon

F: Hore, Gall

FOLL: Pearce, Hanks, Heath

IC: Paxman, O'Hehir, Mahony, Bannan, Campbell

EMERG: Pick 9, Pick 14, Ebert

Rest of the list: Pisano, Dethridge, Beasley, Hose, Rigoni, A.Mackin ?, 1 pick

I've seen some bad trade deals in my time. Can't remember a worse one than this for Zanker.

Yep, on the surface it looks pretty bad...who is our list manager?

I think for the first we are witnessing how much of a huge loss Todd Patterson is to our AFLW list management..

As bad as the Birch trade and we all hate Birch.

Both bad trades for us but that’s where the similarity ends. Birch wishes she had the integrity of Edo along with many, many other qualities - too many to mention.

I don't begrudge Zanker leaving for lifestyle (and monetary) reasons, but that is a truly awful piece of business by us. Not only is Zanker worth considerably more than pick 9 (26 years old, premiership player, AFLW leading goalkicker, All Australian, etc), but we then give up more picks to get back pick 27. Absolute rubbish.

I said during the season that I was deeply concerned by the amount of talent that has left our AFLW program in the past 12 months. That was prior to Mick Stinear moving on, and we are now in the middle of a trade period without a coach and with a part time list manager. How can we possibly expect to retain and attract talent?

couldn't agree more

an absolutely appalling trade the more you look at it

and i bet most aflw players wish they had as many premierships as libby

This is going to be an unpopular view based on the thread so far, but I think the Zanker deal is pretty good.

She’s uncontracted for a start so makes it harder to push when she clearly wants to go. Looks like we may only use two draft picks, so getting one in the top 10 is super handy and the other will likely be mid teens if the deal with GC goes through. And we end up with two future second round picks.

Yep, it clearly impacts the starting team, but with Harris staying on it gives Gall an opportunity to shine, as well as Campbell and Hose.

I’m also not sure that Zankers record in finals is that crash hot either, that’s probably the biggest knock on her to this point.

As for Johnson, would likely have been delisted anyway.

In terms of what the bigger picture looks like re draft/trade/list management, I really think it’s not bad at all.

She's the one we need to finally get on the park.

...big wraps on her so she might be the answer.

Com'on Ghostie, spill the beans on all the bad blood with Birch!!!!

It's interesting that the Zanker trade hasn't been officially listed on the AFLW draft page with numerous other trades appearing on there that were announced after this.

Probably a clerical thing but perhaps still some haggling over draft picks?

Very sorry to see Eden go (we have a pet in the family named for her, as posted elsewhere sometime 😊🥺)

As to the trade, though, it's interesting to note she wasn't top 10 in the 'Daisy', despite her goals tally (while co-forward Alyssa B was, despite what appeared to be a poor - and definitely low-goals - season).
