The new Neale-Bullen ?

I always have grand hopes. I hope he's a lot better than Neale-Bullen.

What is so complicated in every topic that we need to be 'talked through' it?!

Whilst on positive reflection and self improvement.

Is the interviewer’s use of rising intonation at the end of her speech necessary?

Am I old hat 🎩 or is this 2020’s newspeak? Mercifully my Demon supporting youngest daughter (same generation) doesn’t use it.

Without Spargo and Anb who in 21 managed around 50 goals together , we certainly could use another small fwd capable of kicking a few.

Good work.

I would suggest you significantly underrate Alex Neal-Bullen. i mean he was a critical role player in a premiership and became vice captain of a team in premiership contention off the back of one pre-season, so i mean he goes okay.

but yeah of course we hope he's the next Jamie Elliot and he kicks 60 goals a season

Geoff McComas wouldn't approve...

15 and 18.. 33 far from 50

Both valuable but this is misrepresentation

(Sorry, I prefer accurate stats)

2018 was 41 combined.

No, his father Geoff was the voice of the ABC for many a year.

...before your time I'm guessing.

edit: He used to run a public speaking course with Don Kinsey...one of his big no no's was the upward inflection at the end of a sentence. Said something along the lines of people can't take you seriously when you sound like an overly excited teenager.

No, I don't underrate Neal-Bullen. We found a role that suited him and helped Petracca. His fantastic endurance being pivotal in this role.

And it's great he elevated his game, as he was asked to look elsewhere at the end of 2020.

It's you who overrates him as a player. I respect role players, but I also recognise their place in a team.

I'm hoping Matthews has far better bona fides that translate to him being far better than a limited role player, like Neal-Bullen.

I do thank you though. I've seemingly had disdain for Alex and I believe I've been misspelling his surname for years.

sounds like a great pick-up

and great we're adding players with leadership qualities. i think a lot of our undoing over the past couple of seasons is down to lack of leadership as much as anything else

Tx TEIN. Your absolutely correct.

My apologies and yep accuracy is important.( Look at our goal kicking). In my weak defence, I think in my mind I had a figure of quite a few players contributing that year. With quite a few around the 20 odd goals or more. It seemed that way for a few years.

So I just picked randomly 25 a piece and hence 50. Not far off as you mentioned 2018.

But for 2021, yea it was lazy and sloppy so sorry.

But aside from KP who has been our real only live wire small fwd ( Anb dropped off before he left) we have desperately missed these two as contributing in this area the last few years. Though not a small, even Harmes used to chip in and slot a few

In a team that has lost its ability to kick winning scores via lack of successful tall forwards ...Fritta a medium in and out of form ....Petty, just not a fwd......Tmac previously incredibly accurate and prolific pre 21 ( although his first half of 21 set us up nicely)....the departure of Smith, Bbb , Grundy and Jackson.....we miss those 20 something contributors.

So I'm very happy about this draft.

But thanks for the correction

it's important. ( No sarcasm here). I was a decent way off. Cheers TEIN.

I'm starting to believe that we may go much better next year. I think with a new coach and a decent amount of new blood, we are looking more promising with the continuation of some of the younger blokes . This includes and I know peeps will howl me down .....even Jefferson who needs to get over his big league anxiety. He has all the tricks and body.

Not sure about Roo but he definitely needs to stop being used as a centre ruck if he's ever going to make it. It's not fair. And for the love of all things holy play Petty where he belongs. Hopefully King will see reason as opposed to our prior premiership coach.

There is still some pruning that's was sadly missed and it's baffling May went before some blatantly obvious others but I won't go there.

Also without being too negative, I think we have at least cleared out the players that may have been a decent distraction and deflating influence on morale and motivation.

So in a final very positive note, it's onwards and upwards for the MFC next year to finish seventh by %.

And then of course get knocked out by the new wildcard system. Id bet my house on it .....except then we would of course , win.

Oh the horror.

Back to the Ashes......

Edit....did 2021 really happen?

Looking forward to seeing a team coached to use its advantages. Hoping this results in a spread of goalkickers, but also when a player is identified as having a good mismatch we put the foot down and exploit it before the oppo has a chance to get a plan in place.

On Matthews himself, Im really looking forward to his contribution at the top level but if it takes a full year to get him to his best, so be it.

Do we know how far off he is of full fitness?

Google says 4-12 weeks without surgery, and 6-9 months with surgery. Not sure when he actually went under the knife but given it sounds like he's only just walking again youd probably think he's at the start of the 6-9 mth mark

Just to answer a couple of questions LITD, YES 2021 existed as did 2018, 2022 & 2023, we were alive in ‘24 right up until Tracc went down. The cumulative losses of BBB, Angus the Great, CP5 and a much reduced Clarry Choo Choo derailed our year. 2025 was an almost year just couldn’t finish off games.

Now we are in Total Reset Mode - 12 players out including 5 & 13 and now 11 replacements in all of whom want to be Here. So try and stop delving into the recent path, enjoy the Ashes Series (still can’t believe Test 1 result). Enjoy the preseason and getting to know Kingy and all the players again, 2026 is total unknown but they won’t be weighed down by the recent past. Cheers LITD.😁👍

This is some sort of affectation she employs while interviewing people. She doesn’t speak this way in everyday conversations.

That’s going to make you rather ancient rjay as l’m no spring chicken.

Campbell’s bio states his birth name as Geoffery Campbell McComas. So understand the use of the second given name.

Crossed paths with Campbell in the eighties. I was visiting a business office in Hawthorn, which was assisting me with word processing/typing and graphics for preparing my thesis for submission.

Campbell had his office in the same building. Friendly guy who favoured wearing brightly coloured bow ties. He’d pop in the morning to collect his mail. Many would remember his appearances at the Comedy Festival and ABC TV back then.

Possibly nerves, some people wind up like clockwork springs when going public. Speaking to daughter number two, long distance today she’s doing it!!! 😱

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
