AFLW: PF vs North Melbourne

Featured Replies

That was an incredibly exciting game. Took a special effort from Garner in the last qrt to get them over the line. I dare say if we had Purcell in the middle the result could have been different. Massive Nth crowd would have def helped. Our girls will be right in it next year & letโ€™s hope we get more supporters along. So proud of them โ€ฆ

I was there. So proud of our women. Gave it everything they had. The extra week really impacted in the last.

Women's footy at this level is now a very good watch. Thanks so much ladies, I've loved supporting you.

Iโ€™m proud of them but they should be playing Carlton after a week offโ€ฆ

Melbourne supporters are an absolute disgrace and should be ashamed of themselves for that turnout.

I was there and it was 90% North supporters , helped get them over the line in the end.

Felt sorry for our girls and embarrassed.

what do you expect when our home ground is 60kms outside Melbourne?

impossible to build a fan base

One team had a weeks rest and I think it showed in the last.

We ran out of run and gun.

Incredible effort by this team.

Bugger

Also we had a lot of younger players with lighter bodies and they were brushed aside in the contest.

A star player in Garner starred again, carrying her side to victory.

Fantastic effort and just a real pity we didnโ€™t beat the Lions. It would have been a great GF.

Great big run through banner .

I donโ€™t think North had one

We are called Melbourne and the game was 5 minutes from the city.

I wasn't able to watch the game but listened in on the ABC app. Wonderful effort by the girls and shattering for them. Before Liv Purcell did her knee I thought we were a massive chance this year. For most of the game I thought they could go all the way the way they played. Not to be sadly. Notwithstanding this, a great year for them with big growth in the games of so many players. On the ABC coverage, they mentioned Zanker was off to WA (to my horror). Can anyone elaborate? Thanks

Wonderful game to watch. Gave it everything. Set a high bar now to start next season with and these three finals will prove invaluable to the younger players. We will get a much harder draw next season so will need to improve further to reach prelim again but believe we are very well placed to do so.

Apart from a poor run with injuries, only thing that could derail us is if Mick leaves and this results in an exodus of key players. Fingers crossed this wonโ€™t be the case on both fronts.

Go Dees!!!!

Went along too.

Very even game throughout, it was anybodyโ€™s game.

Difference was North took their chances in the last, converted 2 goals within 2 minutes, then it was goodnight.

Great atmosphere, 7000 spectators, very friendly crowd, no animosity between each other (in my area anyway).

It was in a central city area โ€ฆno excuse

Extremely frustrating finish after being the better team all day.

For a team that had won 25 in a row, they don't exhibit much skill. Bunch of contested bullies and in the last they decided to go full clobber mode. Agree with others on our lack of a big contested mid...Garner just gets it and moves it forward. Not much else to her.

We were the only team moving the ball with system and showed far more skill I thought. Had the chance, didn't put them away.

North fans were horrific and are clearly used to belting every team. Most don't know the rules and have clearly jumped on the unbeaten bandwagon. They couldn't believe it when they had a [censored] paid against them.

When we had jumped them and I was just cheering loudly as the only dees fan with my little fella (who can be a bit extra), i was told by several to shut up. They're clearly not used to having any opposition.

May their men's team continue to languish at the bottom.

There was talk of this because Edoโ€™s partner Nikita - who plays in the Vic. Amateurs - didnโ€™t think sheโ€™d get another contract and was considering the possibility of moving back to WA.

A couple of weeks ago Nikita told me she was offered a contract and theyโ€™re staying put in Vic. Hopefully nothing changes.

Likely would have had we been given a home qualifying final. Brisbane finished below us and were granted a home final. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Go Dees!!!!

If Mick does go to Geelong, as bad as that seems, we would be ok if Shae Sloane takes his place imo.

too late

she basically tackled her own team mate. then took on the tackler for the 100th time and got caught again.

goal

seriously? you donโ€™t know our home ground is at Casey?

i was talking about building a fan base over 10 years.

which is inconvenient for the couple of thousand casey located fans we may have built up

you canโ€™t expect melbourne based fans to not see their team play most of the year and then rock up in finals

How could we not score in the final quarter?

We played a high tempo pressure game - pressure rating off the charts - north had a week off and had more experienced bodies with run.

plus we fumbled at the back

Despite the heartbreak, I thought it was a cracking game and a huge effort by our girls who did themselves proud.

As well as my daughter, I took my mum along today for her first W game, and her first live game of footy since 1973 when my Filth father took her to Vic Park to climb the fence and stand on empty tinnies to get a view. She said โ€˜never againโ€™, understandably!

Mum got diagnosed with cancer 8 years ago, which has spread everywhere - itโ€™s remarkable sheโ€™s still with us. Today was a really special moment for us and it was fitting the girls fought as hard as Mum does. She was suitably impressed.

Also, good to see PG, Greeny and a heap of M players there today - good club unity. Onwards and upward for 2026! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Ps- lovely to meet you today @Ghostwriter , albeit briefly! (I still maintain I was best dressed haha!)

I thought that was the best game of AFLW I have ever watched.

Dominated the 3rd QTR but didn't take their chances and you cannot do the against arguably the best team ever in the comp.

The girls should be super proud of their effort today. They simply ran out of gas and North took control in the last 7 or 8 minutes.

Bizarre feeling today. Almost no disappointment despite how close we got. I just think we were brilliant all game and could not possibly asked for anything more. We're so young and we made them absolutely [censored] themselves.

Wonderful game and wonderful season.

They should all be incredibly proud.

EDIT: I mean, I am disappointed. But only that Libby Birch and Emma Kearney will be playing in another Grand Final. That hurts my soul. The Demons' performance didn't disappoint me at all.
