You'd swear these (mostly) blokes wanted AFLW to fail.

Finals are on and it's all about the wildcard. They could have held off until the finals finished and have pushed them in the media and broadcasters a little more

They're happy to have increased female membership but just don't want to put in too many hard yards.

It's like they think their job is done when it's really only started.

Invest and set the game up properly AFL.

It's just sooo short sighted. It does my head in

Hoping to make it to the game, but I haven't attended a game at Ikon before.

What's the parking situation like? Or would it be better to PT in?

We found plenty of parking available in The Avenue last week. It's a 2 to 10 minute walk depending on how close you get to the ground.

That was at 12.30.

Yep - and on weekend the parks on the Avenue are free and not time limited (the Avenue boarders the cricket ovals opposite the zoo and is one street to the west of Royal Parade, which it runs parallel to)

The cemetery (aka Lygon St) is pretty dead at that time of day and parking is unlimited after noon or thereabouts

Simply need more from more for longer to get the win. Goldy back is a good in but will miss Zanker and Chaplin again. Can’t rely on Hore to be your main score source and midfield clearance source.

Need to win the midfield battle and hope for big games from Harris, Wotherspoon (who has been very good). Gall needs to step up and Bannan needs a rocket for us to be any chance in this one. Hope I’m wrong but I think the crows will be a bit too good in this one.

Not to blow our own trumpet (except blowing it so hard our faces are red and we’re hyperventilating) Saturday’s banner is something to behold. It’s the maximum size allowed by the AFL, and it looks spectacular.

It’s no wonder at least four other clubs (that I know of) have contacted us asking for advice on how to get the same level of support for their W team.

Last week North had only three people attend banner-making, and they’re on top of the ladder!

Anyways, a huge well-made banner doesn’t guarantee success but it’s genuinely very much appreciated by the players.

Putting down the trumpet… for now anyways 😁

Throw some pics in the thread if you can GW. I'll be working Saturday and not watching the replay until Saturday night and I'm sure the replay won't show it.

Thanks again to the demon army for their fantastic work and support.

Go Dees Bring the heat

I’m going - hope they win.

Quite ironic that one of the clubs contacting us was Hawthorn after the game at Frankston in 2023, after that p-weak effort of theirs on that "banner"!

I always notice how good our banners are against... pretty much every other team, often even when we're the away team! Some might see it as a small thing, but I think it's all part of setting a standard as "one club", which has a flow-on effect and as a fan I really appreciate the effort.

If you don't mind sharing, what advice did you give to the other clubs? For a while we were probably ahead due to being in the comp for longer, but it can't be that at this point, and I don't think our supporters are any more progressive in this space than others or anything like that. It's certainly not due to venue convenience! Club support? Cross-over from men's and sharing of funds? Or just lucky that we've had a particularly committed bunch of people and that's been reinforced by a rewarding experience for those involved?

Do you even know me?! I don’t just share… I overshare. Just ask my sons 😅

Our club does help us heaps with our support of our W team. I’m sure other clubs do this too but you need numbers in terms of people being involved and that’s clearly the issues they face. We also have a good overlap of M and W supporters, including kids (male and female) from toddlers through to teenagers. We boast the largest interstate travelling crew (M and W) and the only times our girls get a smaller banner is when the poles at certain grounds are shorter because this dictates the size.

Tomorrow’s banner however, is the largest allowed. At Ikon Carlton’s away poles are shorter so one of our diehard members drove to the ‘G and fetched our poles so as our team gets a massive banner. That’s how important this is.

This morning I told the girls about the banner and their reactions were priceless. They’re all so grateful and that makes all the work worth it. We enjoy making them anyways so it’s win/win.

Captain Kate made a point of repeating the thanks after training. She’s just an amazing human being.

GAME DAY

Bad news. With Chaplin and Zanker out we are missing two of our top 5 players. Adelaide are well coached, super experienced, unchanged from last week and are at full strength.

Good news. It is Mick’s 100th game. I can’t see anything less than a 100%, four quarter effort from the girls.

Prediction. Melbourne by 8 points. Go Dees!!

We can do this! The players fully believe it, so too should we. The Crows are beatable. Yes, they have Hatchard and Marinoff and Ponter and Randall, but we have Hore and Hanks and McNamara and Heath. We can definitely do this!!!

GIVE ‘EM HELL, DEES!!!

Also, we have a special kinda relationship with Adelaide. Put simply, we hate them.

Will never forget having beaten us in the season 7 grand final they waited until round six the following season to unfurl their premiership flag. They played at home in round one so they could’ve unfurled it then. But no, they waited for round six. Why? That’d be coz they played us… at our home game. To add insult to injury, when they did the lap of honour, and passed us, several of them gave us the middle finger. Real classy huh.

PS: they beat us that day.
