Our long injury list, coupled with the fact we won, means I can't see too many changes for this weekend. I think it's unlikely too many players will be dropped, although we'll be forced to make at least one change.

Petterd is out for an indefinite period, but Cameron Bruce (hamstring soreness - test) may come into the side after being a late withdrawal versus Carlton. If Bruce isn't available, I imagine Pickett will be selected after being named as an emergency vs Carlton.

Nathan Carroll's status for this week is 'test' after suffering concussion. If he is unavailable I think it'd be a straight swap for Holland, who would play on Jonathon Brown. However, if Carroll is available I think he'll be selected and thus we're then faced with deciding who we want to play on Brown - either retain Miller (pro-stats listed as 1cm shorter & 6kgs lighter than Brown) or swap him for Dutchy (2cm taller & 2kg heavier).

Of our other fit players, I don't think any of them are crying out for selection. With Neitz listed as what is surely an optimistic 'test' and Moloney having played only one game for Sandringham 1sts since his return, it leaves the likes of Ferguson, Warnock, Garland, and Jamar as available reserves.

IN - Bruce, Holland

OUT - Petterd, Miller

B: Ward, Frawley, Carroll

HB: Brown, Holland, Bizzell

C: McLean, McDonald, Wheatley

HF: Dunn, Bate, Sylvia

F: Davey, Robertson, Newton

FOLL: White, Bruce, Jones

I/C: P.Johnson, Godfrey, Buckley, C. Johnson

EM: Miller, Pickett, Garland

Thoughts?

Why does Miller always get the criticism? IMO he played a better game than Aaron and Brock. Everyone loves to have Miller as their scapegoat!

I would replace Petterd with Bruce or Pickett, and maybe give Ferguson a try if Carrol is not up to it. We need to give him a chance to see if he can consistently perform at AFL level.

By the way maybe Aaron is injured and needs to take some time out- he kicked a brilliant goal but stayed very close to the goal square and we saw none of his flair, and run and carry across the middle.

Really want to test Miller over the rest of the season in the backline to see whether there is a place for him. Much more upside than Holland who will probably be gone at the end of the year regardless.

Bruce for Petterd if he comes up otherwise probably Moloney

Posted

Would not mind any of the names mentioned to get a game, just as long as the don't bring in Jamar.

PJ has gone beyond him now and there is now no need for him to be given a game IMO.

In: Bruce

Out: Petterd

If Carroll doesn't come up, bring in Garland and play him down back.

Miller to play on Brown.

Agree Jaded.

Regarding Jamar, on the contrary. I would "rest" White and run Jamar and see what he can give.

This is the best practice match conditions for the next 8 weeks, lets use them wisely.

Drop Miller for Holland? Give me a break!

He played a good game Sunday and deserves to stay in the side. Holland's career is over. If we were leading up to finals he'd be considered, but he is now at the back of our group of defenders behind Bizzell, Ferguson, Frawley, Miller and Warnock.

I'd make the one change. In: Bruce Out: Petterd (Inj)

If Carroll doesn't get up I'd like to see Ferguson or Warnock come in.

I agree about the Carroll situation but I would prefer Warnock to Ferg.

I dont see Holland competing against the total long line of defenders. With Miller yes and possibly Ferg. Within the next 12 months i would like to see Frawley overtake Miller and Holland in the KPB.

ATM, I think Holland is in front of Miller but we have to see what we can get out of Miller up back in the next couple of weeks.

Who gave Miller criticism? I didn't.

Not sure why you'd bring in a tall for a small forward or a midfielder unless you don't think team balance was right.

I'd also suggest that Davey and McLean have more runs on the board than Miller. Regardless, it seems beside the point - I don't see Miller and McLean fighting for the same position.

maybe give Ferguson a try if Carrol is not up to it. We need to give him a chance to see if he can consistently perform at AFL level.
Ferguson isn't an AFL-grade defender IMO. I'd rather Garland (who's been playing on half-back) or Warnock.

I understand that POV and if Miller plays I hope he does well.

re Miller: Then why are you dropping him? - maybe you didn't criticize but I am assuming the implication because it has been a consistent comment from many posters.

McLean/Davey -No they are not fighting for the same position it was just an example of the unfair dropping of Miller. He has only been back for one game. He can't have the rungs on the board yet.

The tall is for Carrol if he doesn't come up. Ferguson used to play back- we need to see what he can do in the last few weeks. Yes hopefully Warnock and Garland will soon get a shot as well.

I suggested Bruce or Pickett for Petterd.

there is no one to come in and play the positions of either brock or davey deeangel, although holland was named best on ground for sandy playing back/forward, the same position as miller. that is why the change was suggested. also because miller is giving away height and weight to brown. although i personally think that mille ris a better match up for brown than holland, but i think brown would give ether player a hiding.

Miller gets criticised and blamed for anything and everything, whether he is good, bad, or indifferent. It is unfortunately just the way it is around here.

But I actually thought he played a pretty solid game last weekend and therefore I don't think he will, or should, be dropped this week.

Jaded is right in that Holland is too slow for Brown, bedides it will be interesting to see how Millsy handles this particularly tough role if he is given it.

So I am going along the same lines as everyone else, in that Pettard will be out and Bruce will probably come back in.

Seen enough of Ferg. Rather invest the game time in your other options Warnock (contracted next year) or Garland (development).

Miller should definitely play. If he's not on Brown then he should be the one to drop into the hole, blocking Brown's leads. You can knock his skill set but Miller does not lack courage.

No point bringing Clogs back this week Brown would just get on his bike & play up the ground where Clogs is less (than) effective.

You cant select a team with out looking at what the opposition has. Brisbane has one two tall forwards, Brown and the young bloke(I Cant remember his name) amd a strong midfiled. Backline if Carroll is fit will remain unchanged if he is unfit I would bring in another running type to add to our midfield. Hopefully Bruce is right and maybe Pickett if Carroll is not right.

My line up

Ward Frawley Bizzell

CJ Miller Wheatley

Buckley Mclean Sylvia

Bruce Dunn Bate

Davey Newton Robbo

White McDonald Jones

Johnson Pickett Brown Godfrey

If Carroll Playes C to the bench Biz HBF and Carroll to BP

If Chopper plays-

In- Bruce

Out- RickyBobby

Chopper doesnt play

In- Bruce and Garland

Out- Chopper and RickyBobby

Miller to take brown!

Really want this matchup. This could be the game that Miller proves he deserves to be kept next year and could be part of our backman lineup!

Thought he played absolutly terrific last week defensively!

Lets see what these youngsters can do away from home :)

I would have thought Chris Johnson has had enough chances. its his application thats missing for mine.

Ferguson deserves a few games straight, he really has had so much bad luck.

When I think of who we could let go and they could come back to haunt us it is Ferg, Russian and Miller.

I dont think CJ is ever going to make it unfortunately.

Agree completely - Holland will be too slow and Miller too small but much happier to see Miller have a run. I'll go a little bit further though, and say that Brown will give any defender in the competition a hiding if he's fit.

Was at a sportsman's night a couple of years ago in Port Fairy and he's easily the biggest man I've ever seen. Not so much a brick outhouse as the entire block!

I don't call 17 games enough chances.

Not when McLean and Sylvia, both drafted the same year, have played around 50. Sylvia is on 46 games and has shown very little in about 42 of them. Injuries are partly to blame, we know that, but he's been given every chance to prove himself.

CJ deserves at least until year's end to prove that he too, can make it.

There are about 10 players I'd get rid of before him.

Well I dont agree with you, but not by much.

Pretty honest of you though Jaded (you are living up to your moniker)

We are certainly looking down the barrel of a major clean-out.

When Holland gets dropped after doing a decent job on a gorilla it's not because he was poor. Do you complain that it's unfair?

RE: runs on the board- what about the 83 games before last week? McLean and Davey have played less games and shown more.

It's a poor illustration anyway - we simply don't have replacements for those players, so even if I thought they should get dropped (which I don't) there's no one to replace them anyway. Weetra would be the replacement for Davey, and an unfit Moloney for McLean - both not going to happen.

The tall is for Carrol if he doesn't come up. Ferguson used to play back- we need to see what he can do in the last few weeks. Yes hopefully Warnock and Garland will soon get a shot as well.
We've already seen Ferguson as a backman and he's not good enough. I don't think he'll be playing AFL next year - certainly not with the Dees unless something miraculous happens.

Garland has been playing well in the backline for Sandy the last couple of weeks. He may not actually be a better footballer than Ferguson right now, but he has a future at this Club and a heap more potential.

I would have thought Chris Johnson has had enough chances. its his application thats missing for mine.

He had 13 possessions in what was apparently 66% game time. That's on track for almost 20 possessions in his first game back in the big time. I'm sure guys who have been playing footy tend to get looked for more so I imagine that'll increase as players look for him more and he starts to feel comfortable.

holland was named best on ground for sandy playing back/forward, the same position as miller. that is why the change was suggested. also because miller is giving away height and weight to brown.

Exactly.

That said, I'm happy to see how Miller fares. He might be needed for these sorts of jobs if Holland is delisted at the end of the year, and I thought Miller did a good job on Pavlich at the 'G last year.
