What's with the lack of hype around here on Xavier Taylor?

Looks like an absolute sure thing if ever I've seen one. High floor but also high ceiling type. Vlastuin clone

I think itโ€™s more that itโ€™s accepted he wonโ€™t be available at our pick. Would love for him to fall through to us however.

We kept the Nairn interest under wraps until fairly late. Iโ€™m still intrigued by who is next on our board if none of Robey, Cumming, Farrow and X Taylor get through.

Might be wrong but still have a sneaky suspicion JT has another option if needed. Maybe one of Taylor, Harley Barker or Mitch Marsh.

Can't see us doing the Nairn / Marsh double.

JT hinted we will not be picking a small forward at 7/8 - 11/12 after FS/Academy.

Said a few available in draft so i guess that will be considered with 37 plus we have Prasad next year.

JT said the work has been done and pretty well ready.

So rankings set.

I am thinking Nairn and Farrow if available. Otherwise Nairn and ??

Xavier Taylor, hopefully.

Lots of very good prospects on the CDG listings. Paul Connors continues to be a prime agent for young and emerging talent.

Iโ€™d like to see Dees grab Farrow or Josh Lindsay with one of our early picks.

They are excellent ball users (especially Lindsay) and itโ€™s one area that still need much better players who are good ball users by foot.

Bowey stands out with his kicking to hit a target with a direct low accurate pass. Langford of course is close behind.

Well pick the best available player (pick 7) within that though thereโ€™s areas of the ground we feel we need to enhance and continually look at to improve and there will be a focus around that for us without going into great detail (pick 8?).

When asked about our need for a small fwd, weโ€™re not going to go early on a positional type but if we feel that theyโ€™re in that range weโ€™ll look pretty strongly at that.

Sounds like heโ€™s left open to interpretation.

current read i think we might end up with XTaylor

WCE: Duurs CDT

RIC: Robey Grjl

ESS: Sharp Cumming

DEES: Taylor Nairn

gives us a fwd connection piece and a versatile defensive piece both with good offensive and defensive games for the modern transition footy

is it my preferred outcome probably not but it is seemingly most likely

Think this is where Taylor goes, unfortunately

This is the first time in a few years where I genuinely have no idea who we're selecting.

Pretty sure we were linked to both Windsor/Tholstrup and Langford/Lindsay at this stage over the last couple of drafts.

Cal Twomey's phantom draft is traditionally pretty on the money in regards to his knowledge and Intel. I'll be interested to see what direction he thinks we'll go.

Seems like this year we've been linked so a very small group of prospects

Whether this reflects the weakness of the draft or whether we are just keeping our cards close to our chest we'll soon find out

I think itโ€™ll end up being Nairn and Farrow/XTaylor whoever slides through. Have read somewhere we are into Addinsall from suns academy who could slide to 37 (or wherever it ends up being) but if suns match, I can see us taking best available small forward

Taylor would be a massive win. Could easily end up being one of the best in this yearโ€™s draft.

That's interesting. Would we bid on a Suns player after the Petracca trade?

Thatโ€™s the big question. Old Melbourne wouldnโ€™t, wonder if the new admin would be a bit more ruthless in these types of scenarios.

I'd be surprised if Taylor slipped through, seems to be linked quite heavily to Rich and Essendon pics.

I'm starting to think it will be Farrow. Out of all the players we've been linked to he's been spoken about the least with the pics before us, and we do love taking a WA kid..

I remain pessimistic about our chances of drafting the players we have been linked to in the top echelon, especially after the rumour that Essendon are going to trade into Carlton's pick 9 immediately after our picks.

I'm making two assumptions: WC take Duursma and Duff-Tytler, and we take Nairn with one of our two top picks and therefore are looking for one other of our preferred players to come through.

Going by Cal Twomey's "Where does he go?" in his November rankings:
https://www.afl.com.au/news/1452082/cal-twomeys-phantom-form-guide-top-draft-prospects-november-ranking

The key clubs are linked to the following players:

Richmond: Robey, Taylor, Cumming, Grjl - 6 possible combinations

Essendon: Robey, Taylor, Cumming, Sharp, Farrow, Schubert (weakly)

Melbourne: Robey, Taylor, Cumming, Farrow (weakly)

If Richmond takes two of Robey, Taylor and Cumming, then Essendon will take the remaining one.
If Richmond takes one of them and Grjl, Essendon can take the other two confident that we don't want Sharp or Schubert and they can take one them after our picks at 9.

It seems to me unlikely that Robey, Taylor or Cumming get through to us. Farrow, who appears to be more weakly linked to us, seems the most likely to get through.

Looking at our best case scenario where Richmond take Grjl ...

Richmond: Robey, Grjl - you can swap in Cumming or Taylor for Robey and it works out the same
Essendon: Cumming, Taylor - they don't need to take Sharp because they can get him at 9
Melbourne: Nairn, Farrow?
Essendon: Sharp (or Schubert)

Essendon would have to rate both Sharp and Schubert above one of Robey, Cumming or Taylor for one of the latter to get through to us.

I'm pretty sure Lamb and Taylor are far more over all the possibilities than me and I'll just have to wait and see what pans out on Wednesday.

The only saving grace is that Twomey has indicated that Taylor isnโ€™t linked as strongly to Essendon

If he gets past Richmond we might be in with a shot

To me heโ€™s just about the most bankable player in this draft - would be the dream if we can nab him

Who did old Melbourne not bid on, when we had the opportunity?

The last 10-12 years weโ€™ve barely had opportunity when Father sons or Academy players were available.

The two opportunities we had with Callum Mills and Levi Ashcroft we did make bids and thank god on both occasions they were matched.

With those picks we got Clarry and Harvey Langford

We also placed the bid on Isaac Heeney back when teams could match with just their next best selection.

personally i hope meth coke pick 3rd duursma to give him the kudos of going pick #1 in the draft, then place bids on the 2x gc17 kids and dean for the baggers

that no one bid on naicos til pick 4 remains mindboggling

ย

Is there a chance Essendon go Schubert out of pure desperation? They have Caddy. That's it. Jones can't get on the park and Wright seems to be done. Probably wishful. They can always take him with that Carlton pick.

WC: Duursma

WC: CDT

Rich: Robey

Rich: Taylor

Ess: Cumming

Ess: Farrow

Melb: Nairn

Melb: ???

Ess: Sharp

How it might play out if the latest rumours of Essendon obtaining pick 9 from the blues happens, allowing them to pre-emptively take Farrow knowing we won't take Sharp.

Who do we select outside of Nairn?

One of Grlj, Lindsay, Dovaston, Marsh, O Taylor, Schubert?

Or maybe we've kept our interest in Sharp under wraps and take him?
