Lever, Petty, Turner, Adams

Cat B - Berry to be developed at Casey

May and McDonald as depth but could easily play a lot of games. Both likely to be off the list at the end of 2026.

We showed some interest in Derksen which may suggest we want to add depth to this area but then again we did pull out for as yet an unspecified reason. Perhaps we don't see further Key Defenders as a need?

Kangaroos and Bulldogs should be going hard for him.

Totally not the same

We were keen on Derksen and GWS refused to trade him and he then went and got seriously injured

If he wants to be filthy with anyone he can be filthy with GWS for refusing to trade a bit player with 3 kids to feed

I get that aspect, but i mean we have chased him for a couple of years and when he was finally ready to make the call we've ducked out at the last minute.

the Alir thing is worse given the money he's missing out on as a result.

He and us were ready to make the call last year

This is why players waiting around for a better deal or to be OOC is a risk

I understand Derksen was keen last year but we couldn’t force GWS to trade him. It sucks for him, because he could be locked away on a 3 year deal at the Dees right now

Also we have a new coach so it’s not unreasonable to change course

Ross wined and dined Alir and then went “nah we ran out of money or something better came up”

That’s dodgy

I'm not about that Ted, I think Derksen is the one who did.

We really need a replacement for McVee but I can't see GWS swapping Olivers unfortunately.

Don't mind it, still not 100% confident Howes or Adams locks down a spot as the 3rd tall.

BS. Not even close

You would think the club would just out of curiosity do due diligence and ask his manager where things sit.

A question costs nothing.

Just sayin'

sos fkd him over for his son bottom line

i dont see us going here because of the fact we pulled out on derksen and may hasnt found a suitor, probably also with king telling everyone to get real and put petty where he belongs

also think he has a bit of the frosts about him, he runs without direction and then coughs it up either with a handball to grass or with a a kick for distance

will definitely find a home though, dons/blues/pies/dogs/roos all should be having a look eagles, swans should be asking the question

hes 10x what howes is but adams is meant to be the goalsquare gorilla so not as comparable, petty turner lever will be the starters next season, depends how levers knees hold up i guess

No guarantee May is a walk up start with us in 26.

Im not suggesting Aleer is magnificent or anything but Maysie won't be automatically keeping anyone out.

We aren't going to the big dance in 26. A lot of remodelling and refining to do.

Straight swap for Clarence?

That would be an ok outcome but maybe our interest would be dependent on finding a taker for May?

Just heard the Saints traded Marshall to Cats for SDK, hence the reason they pulled out from Aleer.

Lamb on trade radio today specified that it was because our emerging backs had sufficiently progressed in 2025 that he was not needed. (This might also inform how we approach Aleer's availability...)

Not enough!

We would be stupid to go after Aleer when that is the area of the ground we have the best depth and good quality. Petty, Turner, Lever, McDonald, May, Adams - there is no need for more key defenders.

What about when McDonald and May move on at the end of 2026? Can we rely on Lever's health who will be 30 at the start of the season?

If he's available, interested in coming to Melb and we had a current or future second round pick I'd try to float it their way to get an athletic 194cm defender who made big improvements this year to break into and perform in a side that was stacked with tall backs. Why not...

A future core backline of talls in Petty, Turner, Aleer and Adams looks pretty good to me.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
