Nah they will feature teams that played finals last year.

A premiership fancy vs a rebuilding side isn't going to bring many eyeballs.

Absolutely see you point there. And there will be highly marketable games on opening round such as Brisbane V Geelong or GWS V Hawthorn as hypothetical examples.

However, they might make an exception here with the Trac rivalry with his former club being the reason it brings many eyeballs (as you said) to a largely stand alone game that opening weekend.

Furthermore, rebuilding sides such as Essendon and Richmond have been scheduled to play GC up there for opening round, and we fit that demographic next year.

I don't expect us to play GC in opening round next year but I wouldn't be shocked either if we did.

As an aside from the other father son thread currently doing the rounds. Will Christian play 100 games for the Gold Coast, and... if selected, where would a son or daughter play.

I cbf looking it up re: GAJr... he'd surely be in the same boat.

He don’t think he likes us

I just don't think there's much of a rivalry to sell. The club let him go, it would be played at the Gold Coast so there'd be only a small handful of Melbourne supporters there and the club have vastly different prospects for the year. Would almost certainly be a complete fizzer.

Essendon and Richmond are both big victorian clubs. We are not.

I predict that we'll see Hawks, Geelong, and two of Dogs, Adelaide or Carlton. Collingwood will get their wish and sit out for a year.

The alternatives are far less desirable. I'm grateful Oliver and Petracca didn't go to any of them. That would have been a hard watch.

Oliver and Petracca don't even factor in for me, I was hoping the Suns and GWS did well this year too. I wouldn't begrudge the Saints breaking their drought either but not Freo, I hope they never win one.

Yes I feel very similar. Except I've liked Freo, at least partly because they're not WC. Why aren't you keen?

If we don't win the flag i hope they do. Them or the Giants.

You forget we are death riding GCS. We need them bottom 4.

I just think there is a chance they take a backward step. History shows that there is a reasonable chance this happens.

Can you imagine another two top 10 picks next year! It would allow us to go after a major prize and if we play our cards right, will allow us to effectively exit the tough part of a rebuild.

But do two Whites make it wrong?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
