I want what's best for Clarry and that is unfortunately leaving us, but I think Collingwood is the wrong move. It would be easier on us we just trade Clarry for Mihochek but it's not in his best interest of Clarry I tell you why? They are too big. The pressure on Hill and Houston was emense another bad year by Clarry with his off field issues I fear for his wellbeing.

He needs to go Sydney who don't seem to want him. Brisbane, I don't think Gold Coast could handle both Ugle-Hagan and Oliver and GWS who I think are easily the best fit for Oliver. He gets to fly under the radar and gets the fire back in the belly. He has a great mentor in Hogan let's face it once Fremantle traded him he was on the scrapheap, now he's a star, a Coleman Medalist. No one can take that away from Hogan. It's GWS or he is lost to football which would be a real shame.

Um you are Kidding.. King wants Clayton GONE, why else low ball his gravitas trying to change him into something he can NEVER become. He is a ball hunter and Collingwood know this, Would complement Faicos Brilliantly! Collingwoood KNOW they can pick him up cheap and with an Ageing Pendlebury and Sidebottom makes a must get pick up! I'm expecting this to happen!

He's a ball hunter with poor footskills and decision maker and how do you know if he couldn't change roles?

Did you see his last game?? 87% efficiency! But check his Career stats in this regard!!

I remember that error well. I think that one and the one against Collingwood in the last stick in our minds and were no doubt bad and costly errors but they are probably harshly criticed relative to the countless turnovers by other players this year purely because of the state of the game at the time. The same supporters saying how bad Oliver’s disposal is want Rivers and Sparrow to be given more time in the middle which makes no sense.

btw I never mentioned anything about Oliver’s disposal or decision making in my original post here. It’s not his strong suit (by foot anyway) but he’s far from our worst.

What about in the 2022 final when he banged one home from 55m out on the boundary to win us the game and Max Gawn for some unknown reason touched it on the goal line and it cost us the season if not the premiership

Whatever happens with Clarry he didn't win the norm smith but he [censored] down Bont in the 3rd quarter of our premiership and then kicked the goal that sealed the premiership and raised his arm to the crowd to let them know he just won the game and our first premiership in 50 years. He is an immortal.

58 goals from 2015 to 2025; is that a good stat for an elite midfielder? Stats are mostly a load of [censored]. People complained about Daicos not winning the Brownlow, but he couldn't win his own B&F. As I have said before, Oliver is one of the best below-the-knee players since Greg Williams, but he doesn't hurt you forward of the ball. Daicos has kicked 63 goals in four years now; if we could have a mix of both players into one, that would be a dream. Sometimes people need new challenges, and if he stays, he might become an even better player. If he wants to stay, all he has to say is 'I'm staying.' Full stop.

An Age article just released stated that Clazz was pretty unlikely to join the Pies, for whatever that's worth

At least they had the discussion. The more clubs the merrier, helps push up or at least maintain his value.

Must say I am struggling with the idea that King is driving this purge or is it more that the new coach has provided the opportunity for Guerra & Richardson to act? After all King does not know the history but he would have observed the strengths and weaknesses of both Oliver and Tracc and surely if you are a new coach you would back yourself to change behaviours & integrate both into your game plan. I suspect the “non football” corporate manager Guerra is driving a culture change program that will prove to be detrimental to the new coach, at least in the short term. I can understand moving on one of Tracc or Oliver but both in what is basically a fire sale is madness in my opinion.

An early winner of today's choccies 👍👏👏👏

I agree ... this seems to be looking more and more like an opportunistic purge. How much King understood this prior is maybe a curiosity.

I too am surprised by its severity in so far as ... both Clarry and Trac. May doesn't particularly surprise me.

This is indeed looking more and more like an agenda'd reset.

So be it.

What will prove to be detrimental to the new coach is having players around the place who put themselves before the team and/or don't want to be there.

I have no idea where it's coming from or who's behind it, but it seems increasingly clear that getting rid of Goodwin was the first domino in a club-wide reset, both on and off the field.

There's an argument that we could have moved on players, assistant coaches etc with Goodwin still in place, but appointing a new coach creates the clear water you need to wreak havoc without there being much pushback. Period of grace and all that.

If you wanted to go further and venture into outright speculation, you could even suggest that the ultimate goal here was to sort out the locker room once and for all by getting rid of Trac, Clarry and May - but to do that, we had to move Goodwin on first.

I wrote a couple of months back that if I were the new coach I would move Oliver on but hold Petracca to his contract. Oliver/Viney in the same midfield can no longer work and we can't move on Viney, Oliver also poor from a cultural perspective. Petracca you have more flexibility with and I'd back myself in to get the best out of him and for him to get the best out of himself after returning from injury in 2025 from a non-existent fitness base at the start of last preseason.

I also said I would talk to Petracca and let him know I wanted him to be a leader of this team and next captain after Gawn but that ship has clearly sailed over the edge of the known world.

Trac wanted to explore his options…King wants him. Oliver was told he will have a new role but he can explore his options. McVee did the dirty on us ..I’d send him to the PSD & surely no one could argue the May decision (who will probably end up with us). Not sure where the “purge” comes from ?

I agree on Oliver and May but Petracca seems more player driven (as in Petracca, not the playing group) than coach/club driven.

Makes me sick to say but he would complement Nick daicos very well. Instant upgrade on Long and Mitchell for the pies 🤢

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
