There is nothing at the moment to suggest Humphries is worth anything more than a mid to late first rounder. Essentially giving back GCS '26 pick they used for Trac. Now obviously that can change, but 2-3 rounders are for established stars still in their prime like Butters, Curnow & Trac (as much as it pains me to type it).

GCS will ask for 2 no doubt, but the go home factor, his form etc will make it more likely that its a 1st rounder and possibly a 2nd rounder to make it palatable.

The way Craig Cameron was behaving last October, I think he thinks Humphries is worth 4 first round picks.

‘A mid to late first rounder’ wouldn’t even get you in the room. Humphrey is worth more than Petracca. You’re paying for age, and potential

Def not worth that gawsh

He would be very good for us but I hope we are also planning to address our biggest area of need in a key back.

Do you think this will be done by free agency, trading or the draft?

Assume Geelong will be very active too as they'll likely need to replace (Danger/Stanley/Biclavs) and Stewart/Cameron not too far behind.

A few of things will come into it.

How good will he be this year? Looked on the verge of a breakout season last year if he's close to AA he will cost a boatload and we should absolutely pay up. Goal kicking mids are absolutely the most valuable asset in the game. If he has a so-so year then the negotiations will be a little less straightforward.

How hard is Humphrey going to make it for Gold Coast to hold him? He tried to get out last year but was pretty relaxed about it which made it easy for the Suns to shut it down.

Who else is in the market? I think at this stage we have a very good hand to satisfy the Gold Coast in a trade, and managers tend to want to deal with clubs that have the capital to get the deal over the line but if another club comes for him and can pony up, and Humphrey prefers that team then it's all over.

Draft would be my expectation. There is a big premium on Key Defenders as there aren't all that many good ones around. Teams have shown they are willing to pay quite a bit to get even an above-average key defender onto their list. We are fortunate Turner has become a gun but he needs help and Petty isn't the guy.

He is contracted to 2028.

They will either keep him again or ask for the absolute world.

I will wait to see how he goes this year before I am ready to see the club throw the absolute kitchen sink.

Yep, at this stage, I'm happy to load up on elite youngsters with JT at the wheel.

Not too sure the Humper is the guy to sell the farm for*

*pending 2026 explosion in form

well if Trac was worth 3, BH will be worth at least that as well.

What is Petty the guy for?

I am in the same boat as well Adam..

Load up before Tassie hits.

Another elite mid and defender with our first two picks would be ideal.

A Key Defender should be at the top of our list.

At a minimum Humphrey will cost our 2 first rounders and some steak knives and a mega contract. Personally I’d pay it as not only do we get a Tracc clone but he can hit a target…..absolutely invaluable. If we can play some good football at the back end of this season(or better still all season) then Humphrey rocks up we’re also putting up the sign that we’re back in business. Throw Caulfield in and we could just about pretend the rest of the world and its affairs aren’t even happening!

Currently a good player who impacts games and about to become a very good player.

Would be a good get to add to the first rounders we’ve picked up over the last few years.

Good to see we’re putting it out there

I love Humphrey and would happily pay up for him, but we need to see how many holes we have on our list come October (key defender is looking like a real need at the moment and it never hurts to add another elite mid or promising tall forward)

I think we’ve got a really strong core of younger players which Humphrey could add to, but we need to be confident we’re not bringing him in at the expense of other areas of need

Anyone else heard that Steve Smith has purchased a large block of land down Moe way that is prime for development??😉

Negative or realistic? Not been much to cheer about last few years happy clapper

If Harry Petty stays fit this year, he is going to put a lot of you back in your boxes. We are well setup up with him, Turner and Lever for several more years. I’m not convinced about Adams so do concede we need more depth but it’s hardly our biggest issue.

We should be all in on Humphrey who (as a power mid-fwd) would complement our recent recruiting very well.

I hope you're right but we're now two years on from him showing consistent form and his hitout against the Tigers wasn't much to get excited about.

We’re in need of a quality KPF, KPD, a couple more A-grade mids to go along with our kids, and maybe a quality ruck to help out Heath when Gawn retires.

But other than that we’re all good

Careful mate no realism here everything is hunky dory

Just once try posting something positive, it’s boring

But yeah those of us who post objectively are happy clappers, keep hiding behind that

He's been used to patch holes the last couple of years and couldn't settle into a position.

Lets see how he settles this season and not mark him on a preseason hit out.

Bailey Humphrey is a quality player.

I understand the Tassie argument but if we have the opportunity to bring him to the club then we should absolutely do it

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
