I’m assuming it’s only the 2 first round picks? Also depends on where we finish, I have us finishing between 8 & 10 so if that’s the case more than happy to trade the picks but if we wind up down the bottom I’d look at who’s available in the draft.

I think we do and let’s not forget we can build through trades and free agency as well. The biggest thing we need to do is become a strong side again as quickly as possible, because if players think we will be a finals/premiership chance again they will want to come. You also know exactly what you will get from Humphrey and how good he can be, but there’s never a guarantee with draft picks. Not saying we blow up our entire draft future, but I think our first and GC first assuming a top 4 finish for them would be worth it.

This is where the new proposeed or potential academy and F/S rules could come into our favour. If Gold Coast have a number of Academy players coming through over the next few years, we'll be able to move future firsts, which would have been pushed a long way down because of Tassie, to them so they have not just the points but the round requirements as well. So we might keep one or both of this years 1sts, but move 2028/29 1sts.

The midfield is starting to show long term promise, but we have major issues at both ends of the ground, particularly in defence. Remember that both May and Lever cost us first round picks - we're not attractive to free agents, so we're going to have to pay up to get quality. I don't think we can afford to use up all our first round picks on one player.

That’s the big question- for me it will all depend on where our picks end up being and how JT rates the top end of this draft.

This draft has been touted as being a strong one so it will be interesting to see how the next crop develops this year.

If the talent pools ends up being as good and has as much depth as when we picked up Langford and XL then I’d rather we go to the draft.

He is contracted to 2028.

They will either keep him again or ask for the absolute world.

I will wait to see how he goes this year before I am ready to see the club throw the absolute kitchen sink.

He would be very good for us but I hope we are also planning to address our biggest area of need in a key back.

There is nothing at the moment to suggest Humphries is worth anything more than a mid to late first rounder. Essentially giving back GCS '26 pick they used for Trac. Now obviously that can change, but 2-3 rounders are for established stars still in their prime like Butters, Curnow & Trac (as much as it pains me to type it).

GCS will ask for 2 no doubt, but the go home factor, his form etc will make it more likely that its a 1st rounder and possibly a 2nd rounder to make it palatable.
