It’s back again from tomorrow featuring the AFL’s “experts” including Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge, along with Sam Edmund, Tom Morris and Josh Jenkins and will run through the trade period all the way to Deadline Day on Wednesday, October 15, before finishing with a new wrap episode from Thursday, October 16 where the team will unpack all the big news from the frantic final hours of the 2025 player exchange period.

The AFL is promoting AFL Trade Radio big time noting that superstars “including Carlton's Charlie Curnow, Essendon skipper Zach Merrett and Melbourne's Christian Petracca are among the players who could be on the move in 2025, while Carlton stars Tom De Koning and Jack Silvagni have already confirmed their big-money free agency moves to St Kilda”.

Warning: Don’t get too excited - If it’s anything like past trade periods, there will be more moments of sheer drudgery and boredom over the next three and a half weeks than anything else.

If you catch up with anything of interest, please let us know - it’s on afl.com.au

I must admit i don't mind listening to this and doing a little bit of work, some of it is absolute rubbish, but it's not the worst background noise

Today’s Trade Radio headlines -

• Christian Petracca is reportedly open to leaving Melbourne according to Michelangelo Rucci who believes the star Demon has his sights set on Gold Coast Suns.

• Carlton captain Patrick Cripps is confident that Charlie Curnow will remain with the Blues in 2026 and beyond even though the name of the two-time Coleman Medallist continues to be thrown around in trade circles with the likes of Geelong, Gold Coast and Sydney.

• 16 clubs are doing their due diligence on the troubled Bulldog forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan with Gold Coast the favourite to get him.

• Essendon defender Jordan Ridley won't pursue a move to Brisbane this off-season.

• Sydney key forward Jack Buller has requested a trade to Collingwood, according to Cal Twomey.

Perhaps the AFL should introduce a rule where good to great players can only go to Gold Coast, Brisbane, Collingwood, Sydney or Geelong. Call it the crush hope rule.

So Suns who made their first finals and have more NGA's coming in, could get, Tracc, Elliot and JUH to add to Ben King and Walter and they are also supposedly chasing Curnow.

On the twelfth day of trade radio

my list manager gave to me.

  • Twelve players’ melee

  • Eleven Sherrin footballs

  • Ten Kozzies a-leaping

  • Nine umpires umpiring

  • Eight coaches canoodling

  • Seven swans suspended

  • Six players delisted

  • Five goals a-quarter

  • Four-eyes calling “ball”

  • Three Brownlow votes

  • Two trades on-today

  • And a Petracca in player/pick package

I don’t believe Max Gawn would approve.

I hope they don’t look back at this …

Scraps from today -

• Gold Coast forward Malcolm Rosas Jnr has picked Sydney as his preferred destination.

• Connor Budarick has narrowed his decision down to either the Western Bulldogs or North Melbourne, if he leaves Gold Coast.

• Cal Twomey believes it’s either stay at the Pies or go to Gold Coast for Jamie Elliot although his understanding is “he would prefer to stay at Collingwood, but the deal has to be right”. Heard this story before

• Riley Beveridge thinks Gold Coast and Sydney are best placed to get a deal done, ahead of Geelong.

• The Western Bulldogs have emerged as a potential home for Brisbane midfielder Deven Robertson, who is expected to seek a fresh start elsewhere next season.

• Christian Petracca has been spotted with manager Anna Scullie and wife Bella at the Adelaide Airport amid rumours of a desired shift to the Crows.

I know the name’s spelled differently but what’s with the manager? Another conspiracy!

Anna is Eddie Betts’ wife. No relation to Phil or Tom.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #7 Jack Viney

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #8 Jake Lever

The Demon premiership defender who has the reputation the master of intercept possessions as well as great leadership qualities managed only eight senior games this season as he battled injury and form, prompting speculation that he might be enticed to look elsewhere.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #10 Daniel Turner

“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #11 Max Gawn

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.  Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #12 Koltyn Tholstrup

It was a frustrating season for the former number 13 draft selection, who failed to build momentum in his second campaign; Tholstrup played only nine games, having been omitted twice and substituted out three times. However, he demonstrated promising signs in the midfield at Casey towards the end of the season, and big things are anticipated from him in the coming years.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver

Clayton Oliver, a four-time best and fairest winner at the club, has navigated a challenging period over the past two years, marked by injuries and personal issues, but has demonstrated promising signs suggesting a return to his optimal form in 2025. He is presently contracted to the club for an additional five years, with a substantial annual salary of approximately $1.7 million in the final seasons of his agreement. All at Melbourne are eagerly anticipating his resurgence to his previous peak performance levels.
