Very disappointing how much of the media is treating Howell's win. They are focusing on the games when he 'shouldn't' have received votes based on coaches votes. Yet talking up Naicos's close loss - he lost by 7 votes; that isn't close!!

Accept the umpires's verdict. After all they are different umpires each game.

Just let the kid enjoy the limelight.

I bet if the results were the other way round the euphoria for Naicos would be 🤮

As if Faicos didn't get underserved votes. Glazing over their golden child 🤢🤢

Good to see channel 7 [censored] the bed again last night.

Tried to turn on the app so that I could look at a replay of the last bit that I didn’t see – all that was available under the heading of Brownlow medal was the red carpet.

Over and over, the same [censored] 24 minutes!

No replay, for love or money.

Anyone else noticed our social media has felt a little different the last month or so?

Just a bit more irreverent, and not afraid to have a bit of fun? I like it.

Have definitely noticed an improvement since King was appointed, not only just in output but in terms of the content. Seemingly going down the GWS/Hawthorn route of a little jokey.
And social media is all about reactions/shares/comments and the like, so the less dry at times the better.

Max obviously needs to learn how to play as a midfielder if he wants to get more votes.

Run past for some cheeky 1-2 handballs. Maybe a few more tumble punts into the forward lines?

Switch the ball across the back lines a bit more often?

Is it real? I just assumed it was someone making a dupe and having a joke. Hilarious if real!!

It goes to show the general intelligence of the masses and the media 🫠

There's an article on FoxSports at the moment
Lists 4 Games where Rowell gets Brownlow Votes and No Coaches Votes
Lists 4 games where Anderson gets Coaches votes and no Brownlow Votes

But then says

It’s worth reminding ourselves through all of this that the Brownlow’s imperfections are what makes it so interesting.

The umpires are a unique set of observers. And if the results just played out exactly as we expected, as if Champion Data was handing out the votes, it’d be pretty damn boring.

It’s still worth noting that Rowell in this circumstance is a strange winner - he was fifth-favourite to win the medal, and had it clinched with three games left. That’s really weird!

Not as weird as Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera not polling the three votes for the game he single-handedly won against Melbourne, though.

That was the worst decision in Brownlow history and if you’re gonna review the voting system, THAT decision is why.

I reckon they have definitely put someone younger/looser at the helm.

Here for it. We need things like this. They may seem like small things, and I guess they are, but it's the sort of activity that builds connection with a fanbase. MFC has always been very distant/aloof with this sort of stuff.

Hopefully one of the many changes to come.

I don't agree with the 3-2-1 system. Often the best 3 players have played similar standard games, yet the 3 voter (usually the 'big name') gets the 3 votes.

I think the votes should be weighted, e.g. 6-5-4, so that there isn't such a discrepancy/unfair weighting between the 3 vote getters.

Shall I go to my room now?

sounds like the old system where the maggots voted individually 3-2-1 so the maximum of votes available for a single player was 6 votes in 1977 and 1976 - as an example, graham teasdale won with 59 votes in 1977

This a worse one.

Many years ago, when possessions were more earned, Greg Williams lost a Brownlow by a vote, after getting no votes for a 43 possessions game, which universally was recognized as a BOG performance by all the media.

Mark of the year ... this year's should be renamed " 'almost mark' of the year".

It wasn't a mark (Darcy) ... like Ablett Snr's spectacular 'almost mark' years ago.

I hope Essendon and Carlton get into a bidding war and bankrupt their clubs of draft picks and Essendon end up with another 10 years of no finals.

FWIW Smith winning would have been worse than Daicos

On the other hand, Langford was robbed.

What a thing to say, M!

Shame on you!

I was at that game in 1992. He was amazing that game. According to records it was 44 touches. Apparently he [censored] off the umpires bad. Here is a story of what may have happened.

He verbally abused the umpire that day. Ump has pubically acknowledged thats why he didnt get votes.

It was a shame cause Wanganeen won that year with 19 votes from a back pocket.

The real crime is God didnt win it with 124 goals in 17 games. That nearly 2 goals a quarter.

Fantastic result really.

If footy experts pick the winner Naicos would have won the last 5.

Definitely taking a leaf out of GWS' book, who are the best in the business.

I am not sure if there is a new social media team, or a new direction, but so far so good. Even the caption under the latest photos of Langford from the Brownlow poking fun of Channel 7 is great.

Social media is one part of a larger marketing strategy tho. We have a lot of work to do in the marketing and communication area, but social media is a great place to start as it is an easy 'win' category.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.
