We already need 2 new assistants. Jones was not the sole midfield coach, and I highly highly doubt he will become one in 2026. We need a midfield coach (Jones will work with/under them), and development coach, and now a defense (or forward coach depending on if Chappy returns to coach the backline). My guess is Chaplin stays as he's contracted, and would be a valuable asset to King, having spent loads of time with the list.

Selwyn also remains, but Guerra mentions the growth in the soft cap, so it's possible we bring in additional resources into the fitness department, or perhaps in the strategy space.

Really impressed with how he spoke today.

It will be harder to impress the fan base once the losses start, and it will be hard to implement a game plan that focuses on ball movement when you have Viney, Petracca and Oliver putting the ball inside 50, but it sounds like he knows exactly what he wants tactically and also has an element of that Sam Mitchell, Craig McCrae style new age style of coaching to go with it.

I liked Goody but a fresh voice is exactly what this club needs, and I’m really buying it.

Dangerfield and Smith are not exactly the best ball users in the league, and they're going alright under King.

In fact Smith was a total ball butcher at the Dogs.

I was as big of a critic as anyone of his gameplan. There is no coach who is coming into a new club and getting the team to play the exact same way as the last guy. It was just written that way to make it sound harsher than it actually is.

Yeah this is still a big problem for me. We have a midfield that just can't kick.

Seven years of zero time at an AFL club in any role is a very long time to be out of the game even if involved in footy media.

It's footy after all. There have to to be some elements effectively the same or very similar..

But more than happy for Kingy to all but apply a clean slate.

Kinda reminds me of a military story.

Unbelievably, it's true. A British Air Contingent were looking for numbers to bolster a "jump" exercise. A Ghurka Regiment was approached for volunteers. Of the 100 or so only 5 put their hands up. The British Officer in charge was highly surprised. These ARE Ghurkas after all. The Brit asked the Ghurka leader why only 5 ???

The reply was... well.... we didn't know we'd be getting parachutes !!

So sometimes its worth asking questions across a group. It's the reaction that says what you really need to know.

On this note. Andrew Dillon is really keen to bring in the new out of bounds rule next season (free kick in between the arcs against player who touched it last). The same as what they have in AFLW that is working well to keep the game moving and will get rid of most of the deliberate out of bounds calls.

I wonder how this will affect rucks and Max's impact on the game.

I think I also heard someone (maybe Jeff White) saying something about them potentially bringing in new centre square ruck rules too. They want two rucks running and jumping at the ball and less standing still/holding ground.

Anyway we have our new coach with his ruck experience and our chamption ruckman. These rule could potentially have a big impact on us moving forward.

Really impressed with Kings media work. He fills me with confidence that we are in good hands, and that we will play an attractive brand of football, that I crave!

Yes, I am a romantic, who gets carried away… but isn’t that why we love the game and blind faith is what gets us through the tough times!

Just a lazy 3 more years of Jack and 5 of Clarry to work around, but I feel like King has been hired to coach Pickett, Langford, Lindsay, Windsor. Geelong's game plan doesn't rely on great kicking either. Clean hands and great running make the kicks far easier to hit.

King is certainly an impressive speaker and presenter and saying all the things we want to hear about attacking gameplan, ball movement etc. Excited to see it come to life in 2026 even though I’m sure it won’t be smooth sailing, but confident we should at least be better than this season gone!
