I'm in a weird mood atm but I find this really funny. Our coach is named after a horror writer, we have a player named after one of his novels (Salem's Lot) and our second name symbolised horror.

You can't really script all this 😅

Are you saying we are Gawn? 😅

When the undefeated Dees and Swans meet in round 8 next year . . .

Well done Kingy and the MFC.

Remember you can do practically anything you like, provided you win.

Do we have to buy him a farm down Geelong way?

So 1 premiership & how many GF's, is it 3? Knows what it takes.

One premiership as a captain and player. Two premierships as an assistant (2016 and 2022). I hope he doesn't get 3 as an assistant. Sorry Kingy. You're one of us now.

It’s OK Adam he didn’t return to Cats until 2024 so he missed the ‘22 flag.😁👍

If Geelong make the GF King will be pretty busy in the week leading into trade period. Seems pretty conflicted and messy to me.

We're going to need a dedicated thread just for horror gifs and random Demon King comments.

Is this the beginning of the end for the no-ts-no-bs thread? How much overt silliness can one footy forum retain?

Sacrilege! This will breathe new life into its!

Can someone explain to me why so many people wanted Buckley? He was a poor coach last time. He took over a side consistently playing finals and took them to the bottom. He was unpopular with the players. He never won a flag as a player or coach. What exactly does he bring to the table aside from a famous name?

Well he was a very good player, sound tactician, and a pretty humble sort of a bloke. Don't know him personally, and I generally don't agree with knocking down tall poppies. I know you aren't doing that. I would have liked to see what Buckley offered, but I'm all for the new guy now and we move on.

Welcome aboard Steven King great CV 16 years as an assistant coached backs and mids, Cats mids playing well at present. I was a bit surprised guess I was blindsided by Buckley, however this is hopefully the better choice for our footy club And we get back some IP from Geelong, they stole our runner, our VFL coach and Daisy to boot. Good luck Kingy and MFC.

Were all aspects of this appointment fully considered i wonder?

I mean for a start.... how the bloody hell is Ghost Writer supposed to get up that high to apply her mandatory hugs!!??

On a more serious note... welcome to the mighty demons your highness.

My only word of advice...for your own sake, don't ever lose the King's birthday game!

He has inherited Salem's Lot! Good luck Kingy !

When I used this earlier this week, it was to support the appointment of Nathan Buckley.

But actually now in hindsight, I was closest to the pin !!!

I'm hoping he has contacts so we can offer farms to Rowell, Butters etc.

The media reported that everyone else smashed their interview but the word from the club was this guy went in McRae style and brought a fresh new perspective.

Going to be interesting to find out what happened with Buckley.

No doubt his ego will tell us all something completely different. I'm stoked he is not the face of our football club, arrogant pig.

Well done Steven King, great appointment by the Dees, hopefully success follows him to demonland.

Has King applied and not been successful for any other senior AFL coaching roles?

Stupid irrelevant question unless you want to keep on harping about this every time we lose or fail. Get over it. All the coaches in the running had applied at least once for seniors AFL roles previously. Think Suns was one and possibly Eagles but he may have not put his hat into that ring.

While I would have been quite happy for Bucks to have succeeded I think this decision is one where we will see a greater change within the Club in it’s approach and more importantly in game day planning.

Chances were that Bucks game style IMO may not have been as modern as one if the very recent assistants. But he would have balanced that out with his undoubted knowledge and reputation in the recruiting area.

Now for the Assistants!!

BTW the approximate 25/30% who just said “ Don’t want Buckley” were typical MFC types with no reason being given. Not even a “ too ….” To add. ie the same who

Don’t like prime time night games ( too late getting home)

Don’t like Sunday 3.15 pm matches. ( too late for work or school on Monday)

Want to clear ALL players ( or about 90%) after 2 seasons whether trade draft or any other method of recruiting) PS were you one of the [censored] who wanted Trac offered for sale before his breakout year in 2020? Yes you !! About 25% of D/L Anders were in that mould.

We are the most impatient group of supporters around. Whilst I favoured strongly for Goody to be released ahead of his contract and to change our game plan to a more positive approach he still was a premiership Coach and there are only so many in the AFL.

Many D/Landers will put King on Buckley watch if he coaches the Devils ( if he he fails with us) and it will be a Green legacy no doubt. ( Guerra and Smithy will escape as they have not had 12. Mths of leading the Club like Brad. ) They have about 2 or 3 years ( possibly) under the Demonland time scale. Brad has 1 or 2 or none years depending upon your opinion on his previous 12months in the Interim Chair.

Incidentally he has 3 or 4 like the rest IMO to leave his mark!

Good luck Kingy a Red ( and Blue ) letter Day for you and approx. 300,000 other Demon hopefuls ( rusted or not) as we start our journey from Blank or a clear pattern again.

Get your tickets folks we don’t know what sort of a ride but don’t miss out.

Or is it Too late, too cold, too wet, to many train/ bus interceptions, too little trying to win or just TOO LAZY to get your Demon spirit into gear, or are you going to sit on the fence with or without an opinion.

Don’t too this or. Too that JUST DO !!! Please.

Hope the whiners about the club leaking will be happy. This was kept well quiet

Good decision from the club. No 1 to exit Simon, no 2 to go with a very experienced assistant that is at a club that knows how to contend

Should immediately gain the respect of the players and will bring some solid IP to the club, particularly if Geelong win the flag!

Looks like a great decision

As far as I can tell it's a good appointment. Be in multiple successfu system and worked with different coaches with different approaches.

Interesting they are allowing him to finish out the season, as they normally leave straight away, is the AFL maturing :)

If we can build a sustained model of competing at the top as promised after 2021, it will be a success.

I reckon he’ll be with us next week. Can’t see him riding out the season with the Cats

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
