Watch them speed straight past us next year.

People can Criticise all they want, but they are building a solid list. Good young talent coming through whilst adding some much needed depth and experience.

Good on them i say.

A solid list of B graders. they might fly past us, but i will delete my Demonland account if they win a flag in the next 5 years, it's so stupid what they're doing

Saints still a 7-12 team even after all the $$$$$$$$$ being thrown around.

Welcome that pick to Melbourne then?

I also have them shooting up the ladder next year on the back of their aggressive recruiting campaign. However other posters refuse to believe they’ll do anything next year because Ryder, Zak Jones and Brad Hill didn’t work out half a decade ago.

They were already better than us before they picked up their first free agent.

Okay Deep Breaths, time for a glass half full. We have a [censored] young superstar in Harves and another in Rivdog who have both proven they can play midfield minutes. Kozzy is as good in the middle as in the forward line. Vines will never give up, Duke Windsor can slot straight in as well. We have Bowza too who I believe is as good or very close to the level of Flanders. I think if Kolt improves his tank he can play midfield too. If we can target another young mid say a McKenzie from the Hawks, we will be okay for the future. Even better if we can get Bailey who is now top priority.

Next season we will be bottom 4 but I only see it as a temporary reset while king gets his pieces and coaching plan together

You dont need to bring in A grader talent to win premierships. Brisbane and Collingwood have proven that.

Bring in solid B graders which Saints have done on top of their emerging talent and then who knows from.

At least they're bringing in B graders unlike the D graders we have been bringing in the last couple of years.

You need B grade talent to supplement the A grade talent. They have Nas - that's it.

You cant lose Petracca and Oliver and only bring in Humphrey's, and even that is unlikely.

Another target failed to get over the line.

Boooooooooo

Desperately need to land Humphrey now or we’re going to look like [censored] at the end of the trade period

I know there’s only a 1% chance but would we hold Trac if we can’t get Humphrey over the line? Pick 7 is worth nowhere near enough for him and can’t see the Suns parting with pick 6 too

Since when did St Kilda become a destination club?

One finals win in 15 seasons. A win that they fell over the line after being 4 goals up at 3 qtr time in a shortened game.

Because they just went and threw a boat load of cash at new players, which brings in even more players.

We have really nothing to offer. No key players, players leaving, no training ground.

Looks like we're long way off then huh..

Its not a big deal folks. Saints are going to blow up their list with the salary cap. THey will be ripe for the picking next year - not that there is much talent there, but they have a few handy players that will likely want to leave after being stiffed on salary.

So if Humphrey says no what’s left for trac trade

Nothing. The club needs to actually show some balls now and make good on their posturing in the media. Multiple picks for Trac is a waste of time in this draft, its way too shallow. Humphrey and 6 or 7 for Trac or he sees out his contract. GC have nothing else to offer.

They're spending over 4 million dollars on a group that collectively has 1 all australian selection and zero best and fairests. that one all australian was Liam Ryan 5 years ago..

It's all hype and it's a huge chunk of their salary cap for hype.

Their young core is promising, but it's not elite, their young kids are no better than ours outside of NAS.

But then we have Kozzie who while different is also supremely talented.

Very disappointing

And a rude wake up for King and the rest of the club.

You want to turf out star players like Oliver for one reason or another, and you think you’ll be able to walk good players back in. But that’s far from the truth.

If we don’t get quality in the draft, the reality is that right now our ability to get even mid level quality players to our club is minuscule.

I would have thought the King connection would have been to our advantage but obviously not.

Hope we have some other plans in place and this is not all for nothing.

Tough start for a trade with CP5

Once Humphrey entered the discussion for Trac, Flanders seemed a bit superfluous tbh…

Do we need two mid/farwards?

All hinges on Humphrey.

Everyone that meets with King either wants to leave or doesn’t want to come Hmmm

He had a stupid haircut anyway.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
