Some element of every fanbase in the competition would've disgraced themselves in the same situation, but it gets ugly when overwhelmingly one-sided crowds feed off each other negatively. Most of them probably didn't turn up intending to carry on, but got swept up in it. Reminds me of that documentary about the riots in Vancouver after they lost the Stanley Cup - normal people came to watch a game, and next thing they're tipping over police cars and looting shops.

Along with not having to queue to take a whizz, the lack of a mob to spill into mob mentality* is one of my favourite things about following Melbourne.

Yeah, they were definitely booing Quaynor for being (in their eyes) the reason Rankine was suspended.

I agree, I thought Houston’s barb was funny. Clearly Rankine didn’t.

I don’t think the Adelaide fans planned on booing Quaynor, it seemed spontaneous. They couldn’t see it objectively like we all do and their collective lizard brain was like, No Rankine coz Quaynor… Bad Quaynor… BOOOO!

I can only speak for the cheer squad but one of the “Golden Rules” is that we never boo at anyone or anything, with the exception of an absolute howler from an umpire, and even then it’s rare that we boo.

This is one of the first things you learn in the DA. But…

That all changed on that fateful day when that filthy thug ended Gussy’s career. Now we boo him like there’s no tomoz. At first it felt weird to boo a player, but it soon became easier and now it’s woven into our DA DNA.

What do these blokes expect Nicks to say after a tight finals loss? They can’t prove the booing of Quaynor was anything to do with homophobia, it sounded like pure frustration. These were the same blokes who vehemtly defended Maynard after that qualifying final.

Patrick Cripps concussed a player- went on to win the Brownlow. Rankine said words, hurt some feelings and potentially misses the entire finals series.

I am a former 12 year season ticket holder at Tottenham and have witnessed some of the worst behaviors in Europe and what we see in Australian sport doesn’t even come close to the toxicity we see in Europe and South America.

To have Maynard of all players come out and whinge about hurt feelings is absolutely laughable. Imagine that, a thug crying about words…

I think it shows how out of kilter society is when there are more important issues than a persons sexuality (chosen,apparent or otherwise).

Without starting a dog/cat fight why is the sexuality of a player not such a big issue in AFLW (because they are more tolerant !!)
