Guerra might also be aware that he doesn’t have a whole lot of footy experience so wants someone to help with that side of things and oversee the FD, while reporting directly to him

I think it’s a good idea and could resolve a number of issues around Richo, and eliminate some of the concerns around Guerra’s lack of footy experience

This is absolutely spot-on and why this move makes so much sense! inexperienced in footy but known as a super smooth operator who is not afraid to make big calls -- think we are seeing that already. World he's rolled in is a tough, competitive one I think he is going to be a real winner.

Where does that leave Richardson?

Is this a quiet backhander to a guy who's contract we don't want to pay out but ideally we want gone?

I'm really not sure Bartel has the runs on the board to take over what is effectively the running of our entire FD.

Not essentially, as others stated this means he's more scoped to coaching which is his strength and I think this remit is far better for Richo.

Whomever it is, I think it is someone who will challenge Buckley opposed to someone he is affiliated with, esp if Guerra is the guy I think he is. Phil Davis would be amazing for mine, but realistically someone like Bartel, Sloane etc would be the ilk I'd be hoping for. Hinkley (whom i'd be a BIG no on as a coach) would be ideal as well, but that is unlikely.

I find the moving on of club psychologist Stephen Rendall very interesting. It's clear we need something new in the psychology space. A new coaching voice is a start, but there'll be some pretty major reprogramming needed of some senior players. I wonder if the view is we need a new psychological voice too.

Travis Boak would make a great addition in the psychologist/wellness/elite performance coach. He is going to do amazing things in this space....get in early Dee's!

I just saw Guerra at the local takeaway and he was having trouble choosing between the salad roll and the sausage roll.

Sausage roll every day of the week. You’re better than this Paul

Didn't we have a 'mind coach'/psyche join mfc as part of/after the Shand review.

Can't recall the guy's name.

Maybe he issue is our FD and players have resisted change rather than the change agents: 'mind coach', Shand, Rendall

Ben Crowe was billed as a mindfulness mentor, but I always viewed Shand and Crowe's involvement as tokenistic and PR related.

No idea where Crowe went. It clearly didn't work.

Fitness and psychology would be top of my list for next year, along with a good tactical coach.

Thanks for the name.

I agree it didn't work. But Shand and Crowe are very highly regarded, hence my rhetorical question whether the issue was internal resistance to change rather than the change agents.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
